    I just bought (in Feb, 2021) a Touring model 2018 Accord hybrid, and there are a bunch of them being traded in after their 3-year leases, so keep your eyes on the pre-owned market if you want to save $12,000! End of Feb 2021 I found a perfect condition, fully loaded, ivory interior Accord hybrid with 29K miles, for $25,000. Retail was about $35,000 in 2018, and the 2021 model (Touring) is $37,000, so if you want to save some good money, keep an eye out.
    Notes: was shocked to hear "I don't really know why this model has paddle shifters..." Those are for regenerative braking. Making a habit of using these paddles when slowing, coasting down hills, etc will both increase your MPG by keeping the battery full, and also greatly lengthen the life span of your brake pads! Also, about the LOUD engine noise, note that you can really only hear this when in sport mode. While in Eco or regular mode, it really does drive like an electric, super-quiet, and when the engine does kick in, you can barely hear it, if at all. However, the power is there when you need it with Sport mode, but if you're always speeding around in Sport mode, you should probably just not get the hybrid version anyway.
    I am super-happy with my Accord purchase, and highly recommend it. I drove it back to back with a Camry hybrid and Sonata hybrid and I just loved the way this car accelerated, cruised, it was very different than the other two cars. The combination of the luxurious cabin, quietness of the car in general, and the driving dynamics made for an easy choice. I should mention that the Touring model gets lower MPG than lower models, though the EPA listings for 2018 do not show that. The 2021 model lists 48 MPG for all models EXCEPT the Touring, which is 43 MPG, and it seems it should be that way for the 2018 to 2020 models as well. I have only had the car for a few weeks, but am easily getting 42 MPG in my fully loaded Touring.

    The "paddle shifters" control the regenerative braking on the hybrid model.

    • @googoo-gjoob
      @googoo-gjoob 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      could you please explain...?

    • @FlyingWithSteven
      @FlyingWithSteven 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@googoo-gjoob The "paddle shifters" are regen toggles if you will. There are arrows on the instrument cluster next the Drive indicator that lets you know what level of regen you have selected. When you're driving and lift off the throttle the car will regen to capture energy back into the battery. While in regen you can push the minus paddle in order to get stronger regen and increase the rate of deceleration. Conversely, pushing the plus paddle will "undo" regen and you will get less deceleration. Might be a little hard to understand because of the minus and plus paddles, but think about it this way... Minus paddle, similar to downshifting, will slow you down at a faster rate. Plus paddle, similar to going to a higher gear, will allow the car to decelerate at a slower rate. Hope this helps, if not there are videos on youtube and forums that explain this further.

    • @googoo-gjoob
      @googoo-gjoob 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      so, lemme see if ive got this.....
      if you take your foot off the gas and coast...there is a measure of regen.
      if i apply some braking, the amount of regen increases.
      'minus' will, in effect increase the braking, slowing the vehicle faster than coasting would. while also increasing the regen factor.
      'plus' is when the regen/speed decreasing my be occurring at a rate faster than desired, so its like slightly lifting your foot off the brake.
      well, i thank you for the education.

      Was wondering if someone corrected him on this.
      Yea i feel like that is better utilized for a car like this. Sure you could try to alter the “gears” in the CVT with the paddles but it’s pretty pointless. I like that they gave you “shifters” but redirected them to the purpose of the car and not try to give a false feeling of fun. Let the driver choose how much power is being sent back to the battery.
      That’s just my option though. Some may disagree with that.
      My only thought in that process is if you let your foot off the gas pedal with the regen at 4 (high) would you actually be saving gas because you are decelerating faster and therefore needing to use more power to maintain your speed when you resume on the gas pedal. Not exactly sure how that all works obviously but it begs the curiosity - at least from my perspective.

    • @theconformist2399
      @theconformist2399 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      It actually doesn't even have a transmission, so it's not a CVT. It's funky, but Honda basically has the engine powering the battery, which drives the wheels around. The engine is disconnected from the wheels until higher speeds on the highway (which is why the engine may sometimes rev high, despite you going slow; it's charging the battery), at which point, it's a direct drive connected to the wheels.
