    Finally a TH-cam video without an annoying host, just the sights and sounds of the car, perfect, subscribing now! My only request would be to have a portion of the video during a night drive to see all of the gauges and the lights would be a really awesome addition.

    There is no “transmission” in the Accord hybrid. It’s a geared-reduction drive system with 4 fixed ratio gear sets between the engine, electric motors and the drive wheels. There’s no traction drive belt like in a CVT or multi-ratio gear sets like a traditional automatic transmission. By doing so, there’s less drivetrain friction which results in better efficiency. It’s quite an elegant solution. Here’s a link to an article that explains the system and includes diagrams.

      Barry Smith dude there is no transmission in an accord hybrid. Electric motor drives the wheels and gas engine creates electricity. Only at highway speeds gas engine hooks up to the wheels by fixed(one) ratio using a clutch that’s it

      ButtFeet Per the article, it’s a little bit more involved than that. Check the article out. It’s linked in the original post.

    The CVT drone just kills it for me, although you probably wouldn't rev it up like that very often. The HUD is cool though, didn't know you could get that in an Accord.

    • @TheTopher
      @TheTopher 6 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      wrinkleneckbass yeah it really only drones when you floor it like a fool. Like I was lol. In real world scenarios you’d rarely ever hear it. Ps- this car drives really really well. Maybe my favorite hybrid to date.

      Cool. I bought a new Acura TL in 2013 and now I'm trying to decide if I should run it into the ground or get something new like the Hybrid Accord. Especially since I get about 13mpg average during mostly city driving.

      This is not a CVT. The electric motors power the car first then later on at higher speed the engine directly connects to the wheels and helps out but it's only a single speed transmission. www.caranddriver.com/features/explaining-the-honda-accords-shrewdly-designed-new-hybrid-system-tech-dept

    One question if I may, how would you rate this car in regards taking it on long trips lets say around 400 Miles or so, and within that 400 miles, about how much of it would you say that you could do on just the batteries only til its time for the gas engine to kick in and do you think this would be able to make the whole 400 mile trip on just one tank of fuel?? Thanks..,...

    • @Lucky8s
      @Lucky8s 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It'll easily do 400 miles on a full tank.
      It's a hybrid, not a plug-in or EV. At best you'll get single digit pure electric range.

      Daniel Cheng the montonic droning noise of the engine gave me the impression of a CVT.

    • @aquaticko
      @aquaticko 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed. It doesn't take much research to learn that there is no actual CVT--or transmission in the traditional sense--in this car, even if Honda misleadingly calls it an "e-CVT". Given that it's only going to blare like that at full throttle, which you probably won't often need to do in a car with >200hp, it shouldn't be a big deal, even if it is annoying. Still strongly considering one of these cars to replace my '06 Forester in a few years.

      it's really a series hybrid until it hits about 40 MPH, then it engages the engine and wheels like 6th gear in normal cars.

    • @jaanfo3874
      @jaanfo3874 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Single Reduction gear electric motor, with a lockup torque convertor which only engages while cruising above 50 MPH.
      Basically below 50 MPH or so it’s an electric car with a gasoline generator charging the batteries (series hybrid).
      Above 50 MPH it becomes a hybrid using a single cruising gear which connects to the engine (parallel hybrid), because at that speed it’s more efficient to power the wheels directly from the engine than via the electric motor. This is only useful in low-torque scenarios (cruising), when you need a lot of torque to accelerate quickly then that has to come from the electric motors still.

  • @grafikhalidi
    @grafikhalidi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree the drone IS terrible, it sounds like the engine is going to be blown to pieces! I would actually feel bad if i drove it a bit sporty as if I'm beating hard on the engine, even though i know its normal. Although it is a hybrid and meant to be driven sensibly -I mostly (like 90%) drive in the city where I cant drive enthusiastically- sometimes you do feel an urge to pick up the pace and drive in a more spirited manner, and when that occasion comes this drone behavior kills it. The sport 1.5T models have a geared simulation that enhance the experience, it might have been hard to do so with new technology @Barry Smith explained but it sure would have payed off in driving enjoyment, at least is sport mode.

    • @theconformist2399
      @theconformist2399 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Andrew K No CVT in the Accord Hybrid. Electric motors push the car up to highway speeds, and the engine will kick in from there.
      Any other time, the engine is acting as a power source for the electric motors.
      When the engine does kick in, it’s connected directly to the wheels, essentially with a single gear. Again, not a CVT.

    • @zero2sixty244
      @zero2sixty244 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      theconformist thanks for the clarification!

    • @zero2sixty244

      Steven Strain I definitely agree. I knew about the transmission problems on Nissan CVT as well but always assumed “they just never took care of the vehicle.” With 72k miles on my car, I’ve done transmission fluid changes on my Altima at the dealer twice and still had a failure.
      I know AISIN makes Toyota’s CVT’s and possibly Honda’s as well, correct me if I’m wrong. I know Nissan’s CVT is provided by Jatco, I also believe the CVT in the Jeep Patriot is also provided by Jatco which is no surprise there.
