- Orange Is the New Black returns to Netflix on Friday for its third season. Before you spend the weekend trying to bingewatch and outrun Internet spoilers, get a refresher on why each lady is doing hard time in the video above. We don’t yet know all their backstories and indiscretions, and Season 3 is sure to reveal more rap sheets, but here are the current crimes on record.

It still cost someone's life though. Poussey was the worst for me cause it was just a bit of weed. In a lot of European countries you wouldn't even go to jail for that at all!

This season was great only thing that annoyed me was they kept showing flashbacks of the girls but not telling us why they got locked up

+Brooke Clark We only really learned why Suzanne went to prison. We didn't learn why Poussey, Soso, Maria, Lolly, Blanca, Boo, or Gina got locked up. We saw flashbacks but we don't know the crimes they committed. Some we can assume but you known what they say when you assume.

The parallel between Poussey and Baxter’s crimes is startling. They were the same age, and the crimes were in the same state.
She was a caught with less than half an ounce of weed and got 6 years. He committed criminal trespass, underage drinking and also smoked pot (which he admitted to officers) and he got less than a night in jail and released without charge, and was able to get a federal job as a CO. The black woman versus the white man were treated very differently in the criminal justice system.

2) She was also charged with intent to sell, not just possession, and also charged for CRIMINAL trespassing (like you made sure to point out in Bayley's case). Nice try.
3) Claiming you smoked pot isn't an arrestable offense. Nice try.
4) Bayley had just graduated high school and was drinking with his buddies to celebrate. Give me a break on that being something you should go to prison for. He wasn't even drunk. 🙄
5) Poussey's backstory wasn't even mentioned, and neither was Bayley's. So why are you shoehorning your liberal NPC theory about them into this video?

When they're doing the inquest about her in the last episode, they're looking at all of her files and they say she's in for 1/2 an ounce, so they can't find a reason to blame her for the incident.

I also think Rosa and Watson are horrible people. Rosa made people fear for their lives and then laughed about it. Watson also made people feel that way and still doesn’t show any remorse or any accountability. She blames the boyfriend for her own stupidity and poor choices.

Which is a preposterous narrative considering that forensic science exists, and they would've seen his facial burns from the riot rounds (that only the guards possessed) and known that the bullet in his head was fired postmortem. But this show always had a tenuous relationship with reality.

She didn't help with the drugs: that was Cesar's business, and Aleida helped him - that scene showing them packaging drugs was exposition for Aleida's incarceration, and Daya's home life. But we never saw Daya do anything but try to care for her siblings, become an artist, have a romance with Bennett (plus sex with Mendez and a fling with Cesar), go through hell with her pregnancy, and try to find her place in prison with her mom gone.
They've made a point of not telling us why Daya is there - it makes her big moment at the end of Season 4 even more powerful, when she finally cracked.

Just watched season 3 again. Remember with Lolly first entered Litchfied? When went on and on about how nice it was and how she was afraid she'd hear women screaming through the halls. Crazy how the writers played into her worse nightmare--when she was sent to psych, the first and only thing she heard was screaming through the halls. That scene was chilling!!!!

I do not remember Pennsatucky's backstory at all except for when she got raped...I had no idea about the murder at the abortion clinic! Did I miss something?

She slept around because she was taught by her mom that she should just go along with men's advances. Notice how in scenes where she's assaulted she shuts down because she didn't understand that that is not okay. Granted her actions (killing the nurse) were wrong but she seems pretty messed up. Many have heard insensitive comments from a doctor and most don't shoot them afterwards. To me it sounds like docs was trying to make a crude joke but something about it made Tiffany snap

NewbKieran Pennsatucky became religious because she shot the lady at the clinic. Some anti-abortion protestors assumed she shot her for pro-life reasons and so they supported her during her trial. and then she converted to Catholicism but yea it's pretty ironic lol

I don't remember if they revealed in the series but I read an interview where Samira Wiley says Poussey got 6 years for trespassing and having a small amount of weed on her with the "intent to sell". It's suppose to contrast with the young cop in season 4 who was blatantly caught smoking and trespassing and got a slap on the wrist.
It was the party where she was in France or whatever because her dad was in the military and that's where he was stationed and she was partying about having sex with a girl and the dads walked in on them and poussey almost killed her girlfriend's dad
That was in Germany. She wouldn't have gone to prison in the US for a crime in Germany (that she almost did, mind you, her dad stopped her)

+Lauren Some of the murders that happened seem to be accidents, so they were probably charged with manslaughter or other plead down charges, instead of Murder 1 or 2. And in Red's case, she had the mafia back her up with a really good lawyer to lower the charges against her. These are just some of my guesses tho.

I guess so. A couple of them were intentional, like Pennsatucky', which I guess her victim didn't die but it was attempted and then Miss Claudette, she killed that guy even if she had a good reason, I'm sure the courts didn't see it that way...
