That would be the cylinder flooded because it was hard to start and would only run on choke. So too much fuel and not enough air. Once you get it running it’ll eventually clear out of using the right fuel/oil ratio.
Thanks for the great video! I have the same blower work great for many years but suddenly on high it loses its power and shots down. I was looking for the fuel filter but I don't know where it is ? I think I should do the same as you did with my.
There is a fuel filter in the gas tank and should be changed every few years but it’s reasons it dies at high rpm is carb gaskets getting stiff. Followed by blocked air filter, carb out of adjustment, fuel filter blocking, bad gas lines and least likely is piston/cylinder or crank seals. But I’d start with a carb rebuild.

Cleaned up and ran just fine! To what do attribute the excessive smoke in the beginning? Owner mixed fuel to rich or something else?
