I have an Echo ES-250. Would not even cough when I tried to start it. Old school wisdom is that the problem is either fuel or "fahr". Ruled out fuel. Ruled out bad spark plug. Searched a lot of TH-cam videos and found this one. Your instructional was SO WELL DONE! I purchased an ignition kit inexpensively, followed your directions, replaced the coil, and my blower started back up on the first pull. Thanks Chickanic!
You are now my hero. Had this same Echo Blower sitting in my barn and could not figure out it’s issue. Ordered a new Shindaiwa/Echo coil and followed your video step by step. Now this blower starts on the 1st pull. I couldn’t be happier. Just take your time when putting the blower back together. Only tricky part for me was keeping the new plug wire out of the way for the throttle control when putting it back together. Sending your link to my friends and family!!!
This video saved me $100. The blower stopped firing, so I took it to a shop. They said it needed an ignition coil and that it would cost $168, with labor. I new one is $169. So I didn't do that. I then found this video, and found an OEM coil on Amazon for $68. So this saved me $100. The only challenge I had was stopping the piston. So I made sure the piston was all the ways down, before I stuffed a bunch of rope in there. That worked. Thanks!
I was almost ready to buy a new blower then I watched your video…I thought to myself “o yeah baby I can this bad boy apart ; BUT I’ll never get it back together…I was wrong! Your step by step video helped me take my blower apart and put it back together…And it works!😂❤ 🙏
I just wanted to comment of my successful installation of a Echo magneto or coil as some people say, I followed your instructions a step at a time with my cellphone, pausing it as I went along, My blower didn't start-up as quick as your's did, BUT IT DID COME BACK TO LIFE AS THE GAS FILLED THE LINES. MAN, these dumb ol' girls aren't that dumb after all. Thanks so much. Oh, by the way, I'm 70 yrs. old now with a all most new blower....
I do all this myself but just enjoy watching how you work on equipment. A lot of people can do this but there's always fear that they will make a mistake or forget a part or wreck the machine . Great videos as always stay positive and safe. 👍🇺🇸
Worked as a tech in a small engine shop as a teen. The old two stroke Lawnboy mowers were neat, but had a problematic ignition system. Got good at changing them . Wish I had stayed and learned more but I had a short attn span. Have showed your channel to a female tech that works in a local Stihl shop.
Our blower just stopped after we were just using it. I saw your video, ordered the coil and replaced today. Once I got the wheel on tight...took a few tries, it worked like a charm. I didn’t find your video to remove old boot and spring, but found another video to do that part. Thank you!
Thanks for the great instructions on the repair of my neighbors pb-250 blower. I had diagnosed the issue to the coil then followed your step by step instructions for a complete repair.
Just discovered your link when searching for info on repairing the Echo Blower with No spark. You are a natural at describing what every DIY person wants to see and hear. I ordered the part you graciously provided the p/n for and I am anxious to review your video again as I go through my repair step by step. Thank you again for your help and great clarity with your explanation and review of the product repair. Looking forward to what else I can learn from your repair videos.
Awesome repair video. I replaced mine on my 5 yr old Echo and it’s back up and running. Saved me from buying a new one. Started on first pull as well. Only thing I didn’t see here is that echo calls for blue lock thread on that impeller bolt and to Torq it to 130-140 Lbs. Found that on a separate video and I followed that as well. Also installing the boot head on the new coil was simple as well. I just swapped it from the original.
Thanks Chickanic for a great video as always. Another video shows the fan hub (holds flywheel in place) being put on finger tight with one drop of blue Loctite. Then it shows the fan being installed with one drop of Loctite on the bolt, making sure the washer is oriented correctly, then torqued to 130-140 inch/lbs and recommends waiting 24 hrs for the Loctite to fully cure. I imagine a lot of shops omit the Loctite as unnecessary overkill, but I use it as recommended by Echo.
I have the same blower, thank you. 5 years old still perfect. On alcohol fuels extend life. My 1982 lawnboy started on the second pull. A When I bought it they said it was a life time mower. 20 more years will probably do it.
I''m so embarrassed, a dumb ol' girl showing me how to fix my Echo. Boy am I behind in the times. 69 yrs.old and I still don't know everything. Great job of instruction. I bought 2 at the same time. Good thing. Echo makes a residential and a commercial version. Home Depot displays the Commercial but only sells the Residential model. I discovered why the price was so low, only after buying 2, but they still are the best blowers out there. Thanks again for the excellent instruction. I'm retired now or else I'd buy a new one and save this one for parts.
34,000 views, maybe 18 people accidentally disliked the video. Y'all show some respect for this lady! She's got a yt channel showing y'all how to fix your stuff for free, in turn taking money out of her pocket.
Thank you for the great tutorial. I've looked at several write-ups on PB250LNs on youtube and they all match up with yours to set the Mag gap with a business card. My blower is a 2015, and it has a raised key cast into the flywheel. If I set the gap with a card, the key will strike the coil. I set the gap by rotating the mag to align the key with the coil and setting the gap to barely clear on rotation. Engine starts and runs great.
This is my hand held blower ES 250 blower\shredder , it won't start. replaced the carb. Checked the screen, replaced the pulley I think the spring end was bent. Checked the piston looks good. I can pull the cord but it's jerky, when I have the spark plug out it pulls easier like butter. Just ordered a spark tester, new spark plug but cant see it with my old eyes..Heard a rattle when I could pull the cord, about 4 inches stop then pull it another 4 inches and so on..Checked the fly wheel the key is missing hoping this is it. Will test the spark plug tomorrow. But with all this said I couldn't have done it without your tutorials. THANKS , your my hero...Have a great day! I kind of enjoy tinkering..My next hobby.
Nice video! I think you should have first shown how to trouble shoot the coil. A lot of money is wasted on new coils and they are not needed. And a message to Echo. Either you stand behind your product or you don't. Having the consumer just threw hoops, like only covering if it's registered is saying to the consumer "we will cover your product but we will use any conceivable method to get out of it that we can" These company's want loyalty but they think they can pull this nonsense and we just won't notice it, like we are morons.
This video saved the day! I was ready to give up on this thing but it was a easy fix! Once done it fired right up like new!!! Thanks so much for posting 👍🏻
I just ripped my pb250ln apart and changed the carburetor, thought that was my issue....come to find out there's no spark!!🤨, now I'm gonna go get that ignition coil and hopefully that's gonna solve my problem. I really liked my little echo, been trying to fix it for the past 4 months, here and there when I have time. I have a landscaping business I just started and this blower was monumental during my first season. I'm going to fix it, but I'm also going to just go ahead and get myself a nice battery system blower since some of our local boroughs are changing the laws on gas powered lawn equipment and I'll have to go battery anyway in certain areas.
Thanks fixed my 9 yr old Shred n Vac. Btw used a few drops of dish soap and boot slipped rite off. Love the attentiveness to details. Thanks again. Liked and subscribed.
Thank you so much for the video. Is there a way to determine - ahead of time - if it's the coil or the ignition switch? I've replaced carburetor, filters, spark plug, etc. and put in new fuel but don't see the spark plug making any spark, so I think it's either the coil or the ignition switch.
Thank you so much for this video. I replaced my ignition coil by following your instructions and my Echo is running like new! So helpful! Thank you again.
Great video! I swapped the coil but still have no spark. How do you test a coil to see if it's bad? Does it have a certain resistance across it or is there some other way to do a quick test? UPDATE: It turns out I received a bad coil (dead on arrival). I got another replacement and now everything works. BTW, the quick way to test the coil and check for spark is to remove the spark plug from the engine, attach it to the coil wire, hold the threads of the spark plug against the engine, and give the starter cable a pull. You should see sparks jump the gap in the plug. If you don't see sparks, the coil is bad.
Very good video. I had a unusual problem with my blower. I had no spark and I isolated the problem to the coil. I installed a replacement coil and still no spark. I then decreased the clearance from the coil to the flywheel and there was a slight spark but not enough to start the engine. I then increased the clearance and I had a very strong spark despite the clearance being double what the specs call for. I've never encountered this before.
I've replaced the carb (new) but my Echo Blower still won't start. Replaced the coil (new); still won't start. Thanks for the great videos and step-by-step instructions (I wouldn't attempt things like this without!), but what do I try next?
Thanks, haven’t tried to fix my blower yet but will tomorrow. I hope I can figure out how to install the spark plug connector since I can’t find a video on that replacement.
Little tip if you car. If you use a impact 3/8-1/2 can just hold flywheel with your hand to loosen or tighten 🔧🔧 no rope needed but ik everyone does that as I use to before impacts lol
Hi. What should be the resistance value of the coil. I have the same blower for repair, which has a 10 bar compression. It gives a spark, but it seems weak to me. Thanks for the answer.
I have this same blower and its about 8 or 9 years old now and has been great. Lately though, itll crank and run great but if you cut it off and try to restart...it won't. You have to let it cool down for 20-30 mins and then itll start up again. Does this sound like it could be the coil?
Great video. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. Started right up after I got it all together. I bought the cheaper ignition coil.
Wow replacing 5he coil is pretty labor intensive I can see why it cost so much to replace, Your right depending on the age of the unit, maybe would be better to replace
great videos I have a question my gsoline pressure washer has not been used for 8 years gas drained etc when it was put up what are the chances of it starting? thank youi
Thanks for watching and commenting! First, the WORST thing on any small engine is letting it sit. When you drained the fuel, hopefully there was a stabilizer in it. This being, because unless you take the bowl off the carburetor, you never get all the fuel out. Inside your carburetor you have a needle that lets the fuel flow in. It either has a rubber tip or rubber seat it sits in. Sitting that long will dry out your rubber component. You might as well try though! If it runs, the next day or so check your oil. Smell it and make sure it doesn't smell like gas. If it does, then you know your rubber is wore out and it is letting fuel constantly through your carb, into your cylinder and filling up your crankcase. You don't want to run it if you have fuel in your oil. If this happens, or it doesn't run at all, you will probably need carburetor work. Thanks!
I used the blower to blow a fluffy snow and it stopped blowing... could the blow back have caused the coil to defect? I'll be coming back to this when I purchase the new one for reference. liked and subscribed!
QUESTION - I have same ECHO BLOWER new from dealer (4 hours away unfortunately). Since day one the engine will not rev up to peak unless I run it hard for about 7 minutes? Is this typical or maybe a safety feature built in to blower? I have 2 Echo products and love them but each has a quirk. Blower won't rev up and a new 501P saw that leaks bar oil like the Titanic! Really getting into your videos, thank you.
Hey chick,do you know what type or size screws holds the pulley assembly together? Its 4 screws but I lost them and had no luck replacing them with phillip screws.Any suggestions?
Not to tell you what to do but when I pulled the blower cover off and put back on I had to take off again to hook up coil wire and found one of the bolts was striped had to drill out and then tried to put back together I figured they was Hex bolts so it has screws torques and hex in this mach
I have the es 250 version of that blower. The problem that I’m having with mine is that it gets to hot. It gets so hot that the blower will shut off. I have to wait 10 or 15 minutes for the blower to cooldown to turn it back on. Any idea what might be going on with the machine?
Chickanic, I have a Echo PB250LN that will start after not being used for a few days then after about 5-10 minutes will die while using it & not start back up until it goes a few days without using it. What could be the issue? Is it worth repairing or should I replace it with a new one. Thank you in advance.
Chickanic, I need help.... Echo PB 250 runs well for about 8-10 minutes. Then... POP POP pop. It stops and then it wont start..It does turn over, but pops each time I pull it. It is a different pop than when you are first starting on choke. More like popping out the exhaust like timing being off. I'm thinking it may be the coil. Once it cools down, it will run again until it gets warmed up again. Then same thing happens. Changed the plug, its getting fuel. Fuel is clean, primer bulb is in good shape and gets firm when priming. Air filter is clean. Any thoughts?
If you reference Echo’s service doc on this particular repair it shows the critical importance of taking care when working with the fan hub and flywheel. I do see you have the updated flywheel but I would recommend if a home owner is doing this themselves that they remove the fan and leave the fan hub nut on the flywheel that way it minimizes the chances of the person stripping out the flywheel key or getting it out of proper timing. Those fan hub nuts need to be tightened properly to avoid problems in the future and the service bulletin also says to use red lock tite when reinstalling the fan hub nut. Also you want to remove the recoil assembly to avoid putting excessive pressure on the starter when removing/ installing the fan.

Many thanks for this video Bre!! You've saved me time and money!! 🙏
Okay I'm hooked on your channel now, really enjoy watching
I had forgotten the string to lock up the engine trick, thanks
I wish I had more of you in my City I need a good Mechanic for my shop.
its great to see lady small engine mechanics like yourself, more please Trevor, Suffolk,England
Chickanic the early years..lol. I am referring to this video out of necessity 😎👍
What a great video the step by step instructions was so helpful. Thank you
Good morning. I've done this and so much work on these.
Thanks for a great tutorial...mission accomplished!
These videos are so good ! Only watched four so far but good visual, audio, camera angles, script and all that shows good planning. I think. Thanks !

what a great video ty so much
Nice job videos are doing well and simple to understand
Thanks! so much!!!
String in the piston? didn't see you pull it out. Thank you either way will be doing this when the coil is delivered.
Thanks for making the video - great job explaining!
Thank you, thank you couldn’t have done it with out the great video you made!
How about replacing the carburetor on the same blower?
Thank you Chicanic (never did hear your name), highly professional and very descriptive on the coil replacement process.
Thanks, haven’t tried to fix my blower yet but will tomorrow. I hope I can figure out how to install the spark plug connector since I can’t find a video on that replacement.
I still need to make a dedicated video on how to do it, but this video will show you. Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much! That fixed my blower😊🎉
Hi. What should be the resistance value of the coil. I have the same blower for repair, which has a 10 bar compression. It gives a spark, but it seems weak to me. Thanks for the answer.
Great video! nice trick to use the rope as a pistonstop! 🙂
Thanks for the video. Solved same issue on an ES-250 shred vac.
👍 nice , the carb needs a little adjustment to get rid of the 4 stroking
Excellent tutorial, worked out great. Thank you...
Thank you for the info and video. You are very talented. Blessings to you.

Very nice explanation. Thanks

Grasias for your video I fix my same blower same problem thank you so mucho God bless you
Exactly what I needed! Awesome video! Thanks so much! Definitely subbed!
Thank You.You are Awesome.Richard.
Great I have I bought from garage sale like new none fired up thanks
Thanks for the video!
Will echo sent a coil directly to the customer to replace or to a dealer that you have to pay them for labor to install? Thanks in advance
I like that you show where the screws are but sped up thru the process. Its agonizing watching someone slowly take each screw out.
Hey chick,do you know what type or size screws holds the pulley assembly together? Its 4 screws but I lost them and had no luck replacing them with phillip screws.Any suggestions?
I’m getting spark with the spark tester. But, not when I ground the spark plug alone. I’m thinking it’s still the coil! What do you think?
Thank you! This was perfect instructions to help me replace my ignition coil!
Brilliant Video thank you very much.
Chickanic, What is the minimum compression psi for one of these engines to run? Thank you.
Hi i've had this twice on my Echo pb 251 exactly the same fault both times, it was the coil. fine once it was changed 👍
Never done a blower you made it look so easy thanks hun your a star x
Thanks girl...
Was wondering what actually cause the coil to go bad splice wire or broken ,???? Any ideas 🖐️
Bad coil will not allow spark on new plug correct?
Perfect video!
Thank you! I was able to do it by myself!
