Our shop has sold over 200 8010s and 9010s and 910 Shindiawa's only real problem that we have seen with them is fuel filter pluging issues, mostly in commercial use. A few broken main frames from one gulf coarse that keeps droping them off carts is the only other issue we have seen with them.

I have a self-feeding drum sander in my wood shop that began mis-tracking a few months ago. I replaced the drive belt twice (at $65 a pop). I googled the issue and found it appeared to be a chronic problem, with no definite fixes. I called the manufacturer, got "that's a new one" and told them they might want to Google the problem as I had easily found several hundred folks with the same issue and little to no manufacturer support. Plus I’d be tempted to repair the wires with a splice rather than travel to a dealer. Or wait for mail. But would have to find a suitable crimp because I would not trust solder in that hot environment.
@james-rk5sd I said nothing about melting. Solder gets soft with higher temperatures. Vibration. Fatal combination. You will not find solder splices under the hood of automobiles. DoD, FAA, NASA, do not allow wires to be soldered to connectors. Get a small brass tube from the hobby shop which just fits over the wires. Cut about 1/2” length. Fit heat shrink over one wire. Insert stripped wires into tube, overlap the strands. Crush in a crimp tool which folds the center in to pinch the strands. Move the heat shrink over, shrink.
Just the faces and exaggerated movements you made while you were testing the fix got a thumbs up (and a giggle) from me. Funny! I'm a 8010 owner, so if mine starts exhibiting this issue I'll know exactly what to look for. Thanks for posting up!

Can you explain how a break or discontinuity in the coil kill can kill the engine. Usually the kill switch grounds the coil primary circuit to kill the ignition. A discontinuity seems like it would make the machine continue to run even if the switch were activated. Maybe the kill line is grounding where it is pinchd in that little slot? Thanks for showing this!
Rooster, I've seen this a lot as well. The wire she replaced has compromised insulation and is grounding to the engine or bracket that holds it. I wish she would have shown that. The quick home owner fix is to just smear some liquid electrical tape over that wire near the holder. You are correct, a squished wire or one pinched in a plastic shroud is not grounding the primary side of the coil.
@@TheGreasyShopRag I am confident that Chick knows her stuff. Your solution is similar to what I might do, but I can see where a shop like hers or yours might prefer to place a new part. Later!

Love my 20+ year old PB-304. It's only been in the shop ONCE because I left crappie gas in it over the winter. It's definitely not a beast by modern standards but it has always gotten the job done and unlike modern blowers it has a curved end on the tube which I think all blowers should still have.

May I suggest perhaps using high flex wire and heat shrink and some other type of strain relief to make your own wires instead of using the crappy ones it came with? Those blade terminal connectors are cheap. Obviously not if a warranty thing but this looks like something that could be upgraded for less than the $1.99 and $2.99. It looks like the owner of this 8010 gives it a hot supper. That never helps things. I own a 9010, and I am a bit obsessive compulsive about taking care of it. No kill wire issues for me. Yet. After watching this, I may take preventative measures. Thanks for another great video.
I noticed that you moved the tube the last time you started it, and it died, giving away the problem with the wires. But not coming across this problem it would have taken a lot longer to figure it out for me. Thanks for the help.
I worked on the adjust floor for CAT wheel tractor scrapers. We would fix issue in units after they came off the line. That department is not there any more because they figured it was better to just let the dealers fix the units when they got them or when the customer figured out something was wrong with it. The guy that trained me always felt like these were brand new units and just like you felt like when you got a new car it should be right when you drive off the lot. That is how he felt these units should be but CAT did not think that way. Guess it was a numbers game. If the problem did not show itself until after the warranty was up the customer paid to fix it
I have a 2005 John Deere 42 inch cut. With a 17.5 motor. The motor blew up. So I had a 24 horsepower motor to go on but I had another guy wire it. He said it needed another coil. And the choke wasn’t right and he didn’t know how to fix it. I know that the coil needs changed because it won’t start now or when it does it won’t stay running. And sometimes it backfires while trying to start it. Tim. From Ohio. Thank you for your time. God bless You have a great show..
Thank You. I have the same blower 8010T purchase brand new and it is the best I ever seen. I did get a recall for the strap but nothing else. I am disable and can't rake leaves. I have AS with flareups but I don't really find it overly heavy for what is does truly powerful and not one issue. Red Armor premix is the only thing I ever used but now its getting pricey, it already was to be honest. I guess I should carry it back to the Echo dealer I purchased it from for a checkup. Homeowner and I only use it about 2 hours max about 8 times a year so it has low hours. Mine still looks brand new I keep it in our spare bedroom
Where you said "squishness," as you rotate the wire for the camera, the wire is showing inside the insulation. It's just a small dot, but enough to likely be the problem.
I've had my Husqvarna 360BT leaf blower for 10 years. It works great! I've never had any problems with it. Routine maintenance keeps it "in the money". That maintenance only includes clean or replace air filter and exhaust screen, and running it out fuel for the Winter.
Thanks, I've ran into my Husqvarna chain saw doing this years ago & thought it was the coil overheating, changed the coil with no success. Now I know what my problem probably was, but by then I was frustrated & through it away. Now I'll start looking for kill wires if it happens again.
The biggest baddest blower I had was one of my own creation. I took an old belt drive furnace fan, 208 cc Honda clone, some duct metal, bicycle brake control, idler pulley and arm from an old snow blower and an old lawn mower deck and made my own walk behind blower. It was engaged and disengaged with the bike brake handle and cable connected to the idler pulley to tighten the belt and manually through the engine speed control. Boy, that thing was powerful. Unfortunately the squirrel cage came apart and I ultimately scrapped it, Next time I do this I will be reinforcing the squirrel cage wheel.
Glad to know this, so if and when the problem appears, I know what to look for, and your right, its a beast of a blower, first time I heard one run in person I was like..."I WANT ONE" , I have typical type southeastern Texas type lawn, meaning lots of leaves and pine needles in my yard, and they are hard to blow off the yard, not with this one, yes, its a bit heavy, loud, you need hearing protection, but its fun to blow leaves with it, it blows them away :)
My Echo did the same thing but I found a way to fix it for good. I sat it on the ground and put 30 rounds into it with my AR. I know I will save money now.
I've had similar problems with plugin power tools - usually flexing where it goes through the case. Those are some pretty fancy moves! Add a little style to an otherwise mundane clean up task LOL!
What would have been the additional cost at the factory to have installed a better sleeve at potential wear sites on the wire? It seems to me that some of the new wires are coming out with very weak wear resistant insulation on some wires.
Sure if you are a factory and have to order 8,000 pre-crimped (assembled ) kill wires, and a supplier can come in with a cheaper rubber insulation (7% cost saving to the previous year's order of kill wires, guess which supplier gets the contract going forward?
I just came back from my local dealer , they had 5 or 6 pb90 in stock , glad I didn't get on , my giant husky will have to continue on , I guess u could take it out of the clamp brand new and and boom , still want one because I know people that have them and the love the power , I just don't want a $600 pos
I know it’s a powerful machine, but I much prefer stihl br800. The echo looks like it’s homemade with plenty of exposed parts that can get snagged and damaged when working amongst bushes etc. The stihl with the waist pull start is another reason it’s my chosen blower. Compromise a little on power and opt for the old faithful Stihl.

Thanks for the info. Echo should reinforce these wires. Maybe a Kevlar outter wrap.
Sewer pipe tubes! Haha
That got me.
Thanks for the free knowledge! 👊
If the problem did not show itself until after the warranty was up the customer paid to fix it
Great show, great gal ❤
I have a 2005 John Deere 42 inch cut. With a 17.5 motor. The motor blew up. So I had a 24 horsepower motor to go on but I had another guy wire it. He said it needed another coil. And the choke wasn’t right and he didn’t know how to fix it. I know that the coil needs changed because it won’t start now or when it does it won’t stay running. And sometimes it backfires while trying to start it. Tim. From Ohio. Thank you for your time. God bless You have a great show..
I use the Husqvarna 580BTS and have had no issues at all, I find it excellent!
As always, I enjoy your commentary. You’re a real neat lady all right you have a good day now this is Jeff mungai from Kennerdell Pennsylvania.
I like the dance with the blower at the end . 👏 lol on core. Anyways thanks for the info!!
You see what I get handed not to say I or anyone knows everything. But that's what we need to carefully look for. You are a jem girl.
Thank you for helping all of us❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️
Where you said "squishness," as you rotate the wire for the camera, the wire is showing inside the insulation. It's just a small dot, but enough to likely be the problem.
I've had my Husqvarna 360BT leaf blower for 10 years. It works great! I've never had any problems with it. Routine maintenance keeps it "in the money". That maintenance only includes clean or replace air filter and exhaust screen, and running it out fuel for the Winter.
Great video Bre, just a prime example of a variety of issues that can arise, thank you.
Thanks, I've ran into my Husqvarna chain saw doing this years ago & thought it was the coil overheating, changed the coil with no success. Now I know what my problem probably was, but by then I was frustrated & through it away.
Now I'll start looking for kill wires if it happens again.
My PB-8010 has had the change in RPM when moving the blower tube, since the day I brought it home. It has never quit running though.
Great diagnosis and repair. The beginning was sounding like a Binford commercial. Ahh, Ahhh, Ahhh!
Love my husqvarna blowers. The parts are cheap and plentiful. They are common and easy to work on and super reliable.
The hitch pin you found looks like a bowtie cotter pin used on a mower deck.
it looks like an ariens lm21sw swivel wheel pin
You are so stinkin' cool! DO NOT ever quit. You should buy Echo and put those other guys out of business.
Great tips on troubleshooting
My Echo did the same thing but I found a way to fix it for good. I sat it on the ground and put 30 rounds into it with my AR. I know I will save money now.
I run wires like that through a spring which protects the wires from rubbing through, and of course bends to suit the direction of the wires
A way better fix than the original pinching.
I love your videos, I learn so much on things that are easy fixes, Thanks. GLORY!!!
Echo awes you for your fixes on their products. Free stuff? Maybe credit at their order desk.
Good work
I've had similar problems with plugin power tools - usually flexing where it goes through the case. Those are some pretty fancy moves! Add a little style to an otherwise mundane clean up task LOL!
Goodmorning from alabama Bre!, Once again Thanks. I can use this to help my 85 yearold father inlaw. Alabama is a big fan.
Yes I am so glad you had more patience to work on that thing and I ever could had I would be out to smash it
I have learned a lot from you
Nice new shop. I plan on doing the same thing on my property soon.
This is what happens when accountants make mechanical decisions @@TheAefril
Thanks Bree, You're the best! Love you!
Nice to know about the kill wires. Thanks for the video. Stay safe.
