Pikes Peak: The 10-Minute Pursuit

- Running sub 10 minutes at Pikes Peak is an arduous task, very few people achieve this target. We follow Kevin Wesley and Randy Pobst as they fight to achieve sub 10 minutes, and the TA2 record time. However, Pikes Peak rarely goes as planned. Kevin Wesley drove a Dodge SRT Challenger Hellcat Redeye Widebody modified to an estimated 1000hp, and Randy Pobst drove the brand new 2020 Dodge SRT Charger Hellcat Widebody concept car.

Randy putting up fast times with a brick car with no aero kit. His driving skill really is impressive.
imagine the power of that charger, in an actually aerodynamic chassis. You would fly up that mountain. But respectably the challenger did really well, even with no aero.
weight to a certain extent helps uphill. The hill climb is all about traction and being a heavy beast helps. The aero does hurt it though.

more weight doesnt mean more grip on corners
@@cyjan3k823 in corners no but it lets you make straights longer. Basically you take a line making cornering as short as possible. The real issues with weight is brake fade and top speed.
Yeah have to say this is not the car to set a fast time.

It’s funny how Randy has gotten so good at commentating while racing because of Motor Trend that he is commentating while driving up one of the most difficult road courses in the world in a Charger while it’s raining.
I was thinking the exact same thing. It's hard enough commentating... Let alone in those conditions.

Their short films probably caught the eyes of different big shots and they got hired to create this for Dodge. No problem there in my opinion. They're getting paid to make something they're good at.

I don't even think it's a problem with the mic, just the way they went about recording it. He was a bit too close to the mic which makes it really bassy and too loud which is what we hear.
Just needs a high pass filter. Has way to much low end.

A bit worrying that both cars showed brake issues at elevation. Seems to be a MOPAR issue. A appreciate that they are testing stock cars up there, though - so there's that. NASCAR, why can't YOU bring back stock cars with roll cages? So boring anymore.

Their game is strong but if you ask any 50 year old driver(any athlete for that matter) if they are better than they were 10 years ago and they will tell you the truth
Racing is probably the only sport in which I think you have a chance of getting better with age. The older you get, the less likely you are to take unnecessary risk. Maybe not optimum for pure timeattack format but for keeping pace in circuit racing.

They're building a huge glass observatory at the top. Its quite a view up there.
Randy has to drive the Charger one handed because of the numb steering...fights the dead brakes due to supercharged/positive pressure in the intake and not enough vacuum for assist...fights the diff which can't lock once the inside wheel gets away too far. Dodge....mehhh....bring back the Viper instead of making these land yachts try to be sports cars.
