I commend Casey on his exemplary cinematography all around and extraordinary use of drones. I can only imagine the hard work that went into that. 50% enjoyed the cars and ride, 50% enjoyed the scenery. Great job, keep it up.
Excellent cinematography, especially toward the ends. Though to be honest I don't think it's fair to say the Tesla is less "reliable" as the problem is the non-stock wheel, not the car it self. However the quality is perfect as usual. Thank you for the great content!
They did mention that 21" wheels are a factory option. I think its just an objectivley impracticle size wheel, see new Honda type R owners downsizing their 21s to 19 because of the same blown tyres.
Those 21 inch wheels and low-profile tires are notorious, and you can find other road trips documented on TH-cam that were sabotaged by them. There have even been cases where a pothole took out two wheels at once. Yet somehow people keep shelling out for them. Expensive rims, expensive tires, less efficiency, worse ride, easy to break, but “they look so cool!”

These long road trip episodes never disappoint! I remember watching the first road trip to Alaska by Gears & Gasoline and I instantly fell in love with the channel! These videos are better than many TV shows! And the production quality is amazing as always!
Nothing will ever replace the sweet symphony of a real engine, whether it's a turbo setup or just a big NA monster, it'll always be a part of driving that engages you and makes the drive worth while. You wouldn't be able to wind down the window of a Tesla and hear the exhaust notes sing throughout the valleys in rural New Zealand.
I have never seen a car (or really any hobby specific channel) with so much art and cinematography in it. These videos are not "everyday youtube" content. They are master pieces in film of story telling and passion that put the so-called "professionals" on major TV networks to shame. Give me this any day. Can't wait for the next one!
I own Model 3 (DM) and STi so this episode hits close to home. As you can guess, my family ends up taking Tesla on long road trips and STi stays at home. Having done both east coast and west coast trips, I want to point out few pros/cons: 1. Most Teslas will have Autopilot, thus long road trips are a lot more relaxing because the car does most of the driving. 2. Range anxiety with Tesla is still there. As noted in the video, the car will tell you to slow down to reach the next destination. Sometimes you are driving below the speed limit and semi trucks are passing you at a lot higher speeds - I don’t like that feeling at all. 3. Supercharging stations are not all the same as there are plenty that cannot do 150KW, this means that you are going to be stuck charging for very, very long time. 4. Tesla (or any EV) range during winter’s cold temperatures is really bad, especially when combined with highway speeds of 70+ mph.
I own a Model 3 Performance, I'd say range axiety exists more before you set off on your road trip! It's easy to sit and plan all your stops, worrying that maybe you'll arrive with
The Supercharging network is definitely constantly improving. I have no doubt that nationwide supercharging (or other charging) networks would catch up and exceed what we have today in a few years.
You guys will probably never read this, but regardless, it has been such an enjoyment to watch you both, and "the production team," grow over these past 8-9 years! I have no idea if you have won any awards on any level for your productions and vids, but you DEFINITELY DESERVE SOME!!!! As an entertainment AV Pro, the only improvements I see that can be made at this point are super fine-tuning, yet similarly, catastrophic upgrades to film/recording/tech/garage gear, not to mention expert personnel that would act as a "Supercharger" to your content (i.e. a full-fledged Hollywood film crew). So PLEASE know yall are on the right track, lol, and this content is GREAT, and the current plan is working. All The Best Lads
This is interesting with complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Definitely wouldn’t roadtrip a racecar, but roadtripping with either gas or eV would be fun. EV forces you to stop and stretch, enjoy the nearby sights and what not but gas would have more convenience. Both are pretty doable by the looks of it; unless of course your back crumbles from the lack of comfort Other opposite ends that would be cool to see would be supercar/suv/high-end sports cars vs econobox/city car/cheap car; or even hybrids at opposite ends of the spectrum. Wonderful work on this production! Looking forward to seeing this continue =D
I wish car culture kept up with the idea that not every car has to be a racecar and handle on rails. For road trips I'd rather have something quiet and comfortable so I can look at the scenery and talk to people without yelling. Electric cars are great for an everyday car and as battery tech gets cheaper and better, we should embrace it.
People definitely like to harp on the range issue, but for me I’d honestly need to stop for 30-45 minutes every 300 miles. I just can’t drive for that long lol. Not a problem for me haha.
Mike Fox honestly yeah, but even from a literal driving perspective. Who in their right mind wants to go 300 miles, stop for 3 minutes to fill up the gas, and go another 300 miles. Probably some people, but I really wouldn’t enjoy that anyway
I've driven a Tesla model 3 with my family from Toronto ON to Orlando Florida, and there is no range anxiety at all, because you set your destination, and the car tells you where to stop and for how long. Also, there was only one time that my family was ready before the car was because super chargers are crazy fast, (and free with referal codes). The other reason that the model 3 was amazing is because I only had to do about 5% of the driving thanks to AP, and even though I still need to pay attention at all times to what is going on, not having to do the micro adjustments saves more energy than you would think.
i drove my evo from california to tx and back..... it was love hate relationship but doing 90mph on heavy TX rain storm and not having full grip was putting a smile in my face immensely
Ben planked out in the middle of a random field was the perfect ending. Having experience with a 5-point harness and full race bucket seat on a daily, that man's going to need weeks of deep tissue massages and chiropractic adjustments just to feel human again.
I daily drive a Ralliart with bucket seats (bride stradia ii) and 4 point road legal harness (left shoulder belt snaps when you push forward hard, i.e. in a head on collision, making it effectively a regular 3 point belt so your neck doesn’t snap). I can say that it’s very easy to get used to. It is admittedly a bit hectic to get into the seat and strap yourself in. But honestly once you are in its way more comfortable than you think. I can barely sit on a normal car seat with 3 point belts any more.
i don't know what brand the 4 point harness is. it's got some chinese writing on it which presumeably is the brand name. i bought it in Taiwan in 2018. the left shoulder belt's rear mounting point are two magnets that requires exactly 5kg of force to pull apart. very easy to demonstrate to my local road-worthiness certifier.
@@DRCrimeCircle that's because there's a market for AWD family sedans. All models of the Subaru Impreza come standard with AWD. However, only the Evo and the Ralliart are AWD Lancers iirc. Not to mention the ugly styling of the Evo X compared to the STI, it's no wonder they were phased out.
When I enter NYC to LA into google maps it figures it will take a regular car obeying the speed limits 41 hours. The fastest petrol car to do the same trip is 26 hours - probably not obeying the speed limits all the way. A Tesla "cannonball'ing" takes 45 hours and that is somehow supposed to be impressive? ..and yeah I get that on a 40+ hour trip a few hours more isn't that big a deal, but we are still talking an EV trying to go at optimal speed not quite keeping up with a regular car cruising casually.
@@strandvaskeren Never said it was impressive. It is for an EV though. It's also quite a bit cheaper. I get that Americans are used to almost free gas, but us who pay 8 bucks a gallon, it's a bit of a different kinda contrast when getting an EV.
Well, this almost… almost… makes me want to take my 2010 Tesla Roadster on a long trip. I can have the worst of both worlds: noisy, harsh and unreliable, plus massive range anxiety! It'll be an adventure, haha! 🤪 Most fun car ever on a country lane with the top off. Not so much fun for hours on the highway, or hours waiting for it to charge.

Nice to see Stig has found new employment in these times
What a great episode cant wait to next Saturday for the second one! Roadtrips on GnG are AMAZING !
what's missing in the Tesla:
Gears and Gasoline
Yes
I remember thinking ima get a Tesla when I older ( I am 13 ) I saw the price and said “Yea Nvm”
The cinematography at 28:39 is just heart warming.
Could someone appreciate how well this video was filmed and edited 👏
Ben planked out in the middle of a random field was the perfect ending. Having experience with a 5-point harness and full race bucket seat on a daily, that man's going to need weeks of deep tissue massages and chiropractic adjustments just to feel human again.
That’s what she said
"Gas is really cheap right now" famous last words
25:37 understood that reference
You never had me, you never had your car!
tall Ben didn´t seem to get it tho
Winning is Winning ... 😉
@@nickhall3000 granny shifting, not double clutching like you should.
This is literally my dream pair of cars, nothing more, nothing less. I need these two sitting in my driveway.
Cant believe this video was 4 years old already ,The editing and the video was great that it look like a new video❤
The quality of this is amazing! Great job on the editing! :) Can't wait until Saturday!
Loved the story telling - a lot
Appreciated the cinematography - very
Scripted dialogue - not so much
otherwise, honestly, awesome
Even if I had the money for a Tesla, EVO FOR LIFE!
OMG!! @ 28:50 the sunset is absolutely surreal, ive never seen a sunset like that!
Thank you guys so much for this! We sorely NEED more of this kind of content in the world! You're the best, keep it up!
31:14 LMAOOOOO love the video, the content, the cinematic shots, & THE EVOOOOOO lol.
16:26 When the party runs out of booze, and you have to go with your friends for some more.
Underrated comment
Ive already seen the trip on Instagram but Im suddenly getting PTSD when Engineering Explained bent a wheel on his Tesla too lol
This channel has by far the best editing and production skills of any other car channel + very entertaining. Keep it up GUYS!!!!!!
yoo, the quality of this video is insane man. especially if you think about the fact that this channel only has 700k subscribers
Whered you get the snap harness?
@@AyoBrandoh schroth and takata both make one I think
i don't know what brand the 4 point harness is. it's got some chinese writing on it which presumeably is the brand name. i bought it in Taiwan in 2018. the left shoulder belt's rear mounting point are two magnets that requires exactly 5kg of force to pull apart. very easy to demonstrate to my local road-worthiness certifier.
dang that Evo man makes me wonder why Mitsubishi isn't fun anymore
Cause evos are a nich market. So they went all crossover family vehicles. Sad day when they announced the end of the evos
1. no one buys em
2. no money
3. broke af
4. resorts to selling crossovers and ruining the eclipse name
You don't nuke a country twice
@@rakka3747very true but subaru is still balancing crossovers and wrx stis i honest think they should do it for fans like subaru
Awesome episode! Those 21" rims looked badass on the Tesla, I was sad to see them go
I like the pops in bangs from the exhaust on that Tesla
road trips are the best. they were the best episodes in top gear as well.
4:59 "good steward of the internet for impressionable young viewers"
5:37 *steers with knee*
G&G: "Obviously, you can't do that in a Tesla"
Kyle Conner and Matthew Davis: Does 2,800 mi NYC to LA in 45 h 16 mins.
from 2012?
@Jasonsenipor or is it more like you can afford a tesla because you dont need to pay 8 bucks a gallon.
Was waiting for vin diesel at 25:36? 🤣
Love the story, editing, script, tech contrast, scenery, etc well done! Can't wait to see next episode!
Last 5 min of drone shots !!! Just amazing production quality
Well, this almost… almost… makes me want to take my 2010 Tesla Roadster on a long trip. I can have the worst of both worlds: noisy, harsh and unreliable, plus massive range anxiety! It'll be an adventure, haha! 🤪
Most fun car ever on a country lane with the top off. Not so much fun for hours on the highway, or hours waiting for it to charge.
31:18 Literally what you do the day after bootcamp.
1:55
People who didn't see the Instagram stories: "Hey!!! You cheated!!! You used a completely different Tesla!!! Cheater!! The wheels changed!!!"
28:51 Thats the money shot right there . Amazing visuals
I have done this cross country round trip. Comfort is king.
