Thank you for providing a link to the transcript. I found this a fascinating subject, and am curious about a few things. Is it possible that psychopaths suffer from some form of incurable birth defect, so to speak, though not visible? Or, is there any difference between a psychopath's brain and that of a 'normal' person'? As to cures; can a psychopath be taught, through some sort of mental manipulation, that giving value to others' interests, could be of value to their own interests? Are narcissists psychopaths, or are the two distinctly different maladies, depending on severity? Finally, I wonder the difference between 'sociopath' and 'psychopath'. Anyway - thank you again, both for posting the video and the link. :)

A lot of this can be twisted and distorted in a way to apply to anyone. Other disorders, such as autism and adhd can share similar symptoms. Psychopathy is simply not something you can diagnose in someone without medical examination. A lot of the comments are saying how theyve had a bad encounter with a psychopath when there could be millions of reason that go into someone's actions and decisions (miscommunication, different beliefs, past experience, etc.)
Psychopathy is not just a word you use on someone who you feel mistreated you. Its a genuine mental disorder that's a lot more complex than "oh this guy had dead eyes! He must be a psychopath."

The main thing I don’t think most people realize is that psychopaths, many of them, are very good at appearing to be a good, normal, genuine person. They are very charming too. I learned this the hard way. A year and a half into a relationship, that I thought was great. I learned this person was not who I thought they were, and they were lying about everything. We had mutual friends, and no one knew any of this stuff, and wouldn’t believe it if I told them.

That's the part which I find most scary about these types of personality...? 😕 As humans we rely so heavily on intuition & "vibe checks" to keep us safe and well in daily life & relationships, and people in this category just won't always set off any alarms because they're so good at masking? It's usually only over considerable time that red flags accumulate, or the mask slips, and by that stage people they've targeted may already be heavily entangled or even endangered.

Edit: Don't take this comment seriously. I actually have no idea if someone is a psychopath or not. And the individual who I talk about in this comment, I actually don't believe to be psychopath. They were just very troubled with shame and guilt like most people are in milder ways. And whenever we are burdened with very deep guilt or shame, we seem to manufacture lots of things like drama to cover up, and deal with, and distract us from that guilt and shame. In fact, I think a psychopath probably wouldn't at all be burdened with shame or guilt. The guy I'm talk about had some good traits, which he tried to use to feel like a good person. And he lived in isolation, so it wasn't like he was going door to door to bother people with his craziness. I was just ranting in anger because I hadn't yet accepted some things that happened during my time living near him, which wasn't all his fault.
Original comment: I've met psychopaths for sure. I lived next to one. He even had this thing where he'd stare at you... like a psychopath, as you approached to unnerve you. Was highly intelligent. A pathological liar. Extremely charismatic, extroverted, huge hand and arm movements when talking. Did everything he possibly could, even up to spending money, to control everyone or have them removed as far away from him as possible. If he's mouth was moving, he was trying to fuck you in some way or the other, even if to just covertly destabilize you with a subliminal suggestion, which he was a true master of. Paranoid as hell that everyone else was also like him and had to be watched, subdued and kept on a leash. Had an unmatched talent in the ability to press a persons buttons, or to strategise and manipulate effortlessly and turn people against one another and drive everyone crazy. And If your mouth was moving, if you said one sentence, he would use it in some way against you, so at a certain point I just never opened my mouth in front of him. And if he couldn't absolutely control you in every way, even up to how you live privately in your own life, you instantly became his enemy. He would fly off the handle and scream at the top of his lungs with rage like hitler for any small thing. He was a person that tried and almost succeeded to break me mentally, and others too. And inspite of all of that intelligence, and charisma and fearlessness and ability, he had no real friends and live alone and everyone hated him because he just couldn't resist the temptation to hurt everyone he ever met in some way shape or form and that was his biggest weakness, he just couldn't control his hatred

I met a person that I worried might be one once. I’m not a mental health professional, and even if I were, I never would have had the chance to evaluate him. So of course I cannot say. But there were signs that he was a toxic manipulator, so I dipped. I don’t care how he might have been classified. I just knew that, whatever his classification, I didn’t want anything to do with it.
He was quite friendly to me, and at first, I enjoyed his company. This was not a romantic candidate, we were both partnered, but we developed an intellectual friendship.
But then i noticed how he treated other people. I have no idea what was wrong with him, but it was quite scary. So I just casually put distance between us. Oddly, he was fine with that. I don’t think he saw me as a valuable resource outside of joking around and talking about work. I was a pal. Neither a threat nor a target.

Thing is that’s not just a psychopath thing. I’m like that sometimes and I’m not a psychopath. I’m autistic and most autistic people struggle looking in the eyes but I don’t usually and sometimes I do sear people in the eyes quite deeply, not because I want to use them but sometimes I do just stare at things (not just people) intensely, sometimes it’s just that I have to concentrate quite a lot when I talk and hold my eyes slightly differently or sometimes it might be I’m quite concentrated on what they say because I’m prone to drifting off so to avoid that sometimes I concentrate hard which causes that to happen, sometimes it might be me thinking I recognise someone (I think that falsely quite a lot) and sometimes I might just be staring into space and it happens that whilst I do that I’m staring at your eyes. It’s not just psychopaths that are like that and don’t assume people are psychopaths just because they do that. That eye thing is something I do too but I’m not a psychopath and I don’t do it for the reasons this video said.

Remember always that you have the right to answer a question in any way you see fit. One interrogative method may involve a "designated" interviewer being purposely obtuse or disinterested in subjects where they are uninformed/less educated. Thiey might do this in an attempt to maintain or regain a perceived upper hand in your interrogation/conversation
. In summary, never discount the fact that a clinical mental health "professional" might have several DSM-5 diagnosis themselves with psychopathy being among them. Don't get shaken, just hold your ground and ask for another provider when needed.👍

When meeting someone new, go slow and take your time. That's how to spot a psychopath.
After you encounter 1 or 2 psychopaths/sociopaths, they are easier to spot.
      A good rule of thumb:
      -Charm, very charming (compliments often)
-seems very likeable/friendly...at first. :) But slowly over time, their bff Tom has left and is never heard from again cause he moved far far away. Weird, huh? (they burn bridges over time, over and over again. People flee them.)
-most have a revolving door of people (see comment above)
      -anger
-mischievous intentions (They get caught stealing from work, their neighbor's cat suddenly goes missing, they brag about how they "borrowed" their friend's car for the day, but the friend didn't know)
-"humble" bragging (listen closely and they will brag about their bad deeds. My psychopath ex bragged she popped her ex's (before me) car tires and laughed when the ex had to get them replaced which cost a thousand $$$$. I didn't laugh when I was told this. Another psychopath I knew bragged happily about how they got rid of the gophers in their backyard. (pesticide)

They might camouflage in the world by using their profession which makes them a lot of money and money gives them power. Then they could travel to third worlds and do things there that is easier to get away with then if you were in a developed world. I would’ve never found out if 1. My parents didn’t take me with a relative who was a psychiatrist over my violent behavior at such a young age. 2. An ex who told me I was creepy because she would be emotional and I’d give her an empty stare or we’d fight and she could never get a reaction out of me that showed “I cared”. She realized everytime we’d fight I wouldn’t ever burst but somehow just somehow she knew I was hurting her psychologically by finding ways to psychologically punish her. Then when I went into the military and did a tour in Iraq. A family in a car was coming towards our checkpoint we yelled stop multiple times and to turn around. They don’t understand English so why would they? Everyone hesitated to take a shot. I didn’t. I lit up the car and everyone followed. Car was a white washed colored vehicle but after we lit it up the blood painted the entire inside and outside bumper red. All my friends in my unit felt guilt, had suicidal thoughts, tried speaking to the higher ups about doing something else for a while and they were told they were useless and weak and to go back out there. I was praised for my willingness to not be affected by the matter. I never had remorse, regret, or guilt. The family had 2 kids in the back the husband and the wife and the wife was pregnant around 6 months. No one came for them we just had to throw their bodies in a truck and the truck handles the bodies.
Anyways then I come home and my very first social gathering is my nephews bday party in which my sister is pregnant around 7 months full baby bump. I go in to give her a hug and close my eyes. Suddenly an image of a bloody fetus crying with mutilated body parts pops into my head. I step back look at my sister and then her baby bump then she asks if I’m okay. I smile rub her baby bump and kiss her on the head and re assure her she’ll always be okay. I realize that my mind is playing tricks on me aligning my sisters pregnancy to what I have done but reality is the parents chose their fate for not understanding English. Wrong place wrong time and they should’ve known better.

And its layers upon layers of deceit and manipulation. They will go to extremes that are inscrutable, and will have everyone convinced that it is YOU who is “psychiatrically” ill. The mother of my son, unfortunately I’m convinced is a psychopath. She exhibits all of these traits, and I can say for sure. The eyes of a psychopath is a REAL thing. Before I even listened to this documentary. I used to describe this to my own mother at times. In moments of pure chaos and distress that I’m experiencing because of her actions, she would say “don’t blame it on me” and start humming. Whenever her actions causes other people great emotional distress and I would confront her. I would never forget that… idk how to describe it man. It’s like starring at a blank slate of nothingness. Like you’re starting into an emotionless Void. Empty, Cold, it’s like.. yeah. It reminds me of the “Uncanny Valley Effect” where something that looks humane and should be, just.. isn’t. It’s like literally the eyes of something sentient, that looks and mimics human nature to the bone except what makes humans, humans which is emotion and empathy. It’s like starring into a two window panes with no lights on inside.
My biggest advice to anyone who’s currently in a relationship that exhibits these behaviors, GET OUT. There is no rehabilitation for Psychopaths because they don’t and won’t admit they have a fault to begin with. Get out before you have a child, I wish I did. I’m separated now and I’m co-parenting but. Once you’re tangled up with them AND you have a child and unfortunate to be a father that actually cares about their child. Psychopaths would use anybody as a pawn if it meant controlling the board even their own blood and kin. Be strong kind people, don’t let the ugliness of a psychopath destroy your true self.

To not consider the parental influences on early age children as a source of psychopathology is to not be open to all possibilities and naive of the hidden destruction of the potential of parents. We all want to believe that there is no way that parents could hate or simply not love their children in the way they need love. I've found that often the pathway to psychopathy begins here.

Maybe we are but also psychopaths are very good at conveying that they are in complete control and that nothing is going wrong. They're good at this and good at hiding loses because, amongst other things, they have to believe they are in complete control given that the charade is all that they are. Self reflection into the black void where the soul should be is something a psychopath will avoid at any cost and possibly they are incapable of self reflection. Really, their delusions are all they have.
When their delusional worldview is challenged by reality, they will over compensate by flaring and flaunting their ego, which in turn causes a bigger gap to form between their delusions and reality as they overplay their hand harder and harder to try bring reality back in line with their delusions. Of course this raises more suspicion. This downward spiral of hubris will ultimately be their downfall if they do not keep their ego in check. This is quite the tall order for a psychopath.

The most psychopathic person I came across was my neighbor as a young teenager (I was 13). We had just moved to a new house and while home I saw a man go into our yard and start throwing trash in it. He then went inside his home. He was our neighbor. Being young, I decided the best course of action was to take the trash he threw in our yard and throw it into his. He came out and confronted me asking me what I was doing. I told him I saw him in our yard which he had no right to be in and that he threw his trash in our yard and that I was simply returning it. He was furious and then started accusing me of breaking his fence (the fence was leaning towards his yard due to rosebushes that the previous owner had and didn’t trim do to her being very elderly). He ended up calling the cops. When the cop came (a young woman) he came out with a cane. A CANE. He was not handicapped. I had seen him walking just fine. He played the role of an old handicapped man (he was in his mid 60’s, hardly old). He then started accusing me of trashing his property and destroying his fence. I was livid. I had never had such an experience before. A grown adult clearly lying in front of a cop just so I and my family could get in trouble and maybe use that to pay for his fence because he was in the processes of putting the place up for sale and I’m assuming didn’t want to pay for a new fence. He told the officer I was yelling at him and that I was lying since he could barely walk let alone pick up and throw trash. It was my word against his. My mom was also present and obviously took my side since I was/am not a bad kid. However, she has a thick accent and the cop didn’t take her seriously. I will never forget that. I was made to be the villain by this utter scumbag who walked out with a freaking cane to get on the cop’s good side. I was too naïve to even believe such people existed. When my dad returned home from work he was furious. He went to the town and complained. He also spoke with our other neighbor who was a lovely older woman. She told my father that the guy is the worst person she’s ever met and that she’s fairly confident that he had actually build the fence on our property because the lady that lived in our house prior had spoken to her about it before. Turns out she was right, the fence was build on our property. He build it 3-4ft over the property line so he could have a larger yard. Thankfully he sold the property weeks after we had moved in so that was my only interaction with that psycho.

He would act that way, act interested in my life, hobbies, act like he cared. Then when he would have enough info he would turn into different person and use everything he found out about me, against me. He wouldn't hesitate to embarrass both of us, as long as I feel embarrassed. He was always the happiest when he was hurting someone's feelings or embarrassing somebody. By the time we were 12 years old he was smart enough to manipulate with older people. At that age he would dress as a Adolf H. Cuz that was his idol. I remembered he was also saying that he thinks a lot how he would do things differently if he was Adolf H. and actually manage to conquer the Europe... We were 12 at that time. When he found a new victim and moved away from me, he was doing exactly the same things to her that he did to me. I was diagnosed with, amongst other things, ASPD (anti social personality disorder) and whilst everything this video described has been true I try not to lie, cheat or steal or manipulate others. I try to be more empathetic and caring for others as much as I can. I have been in times rather crass and uncaring, to the point of scaring others. I have also met few real psychopaths who feared me since I didn't fall for their usual tricks.
The biggest advice I have for others that want to protect themselves against psychopaths is to, if you suspect them of it, tell them a small insignificat shame/guilt/remorse or "pain point" you have. If they use it to have an upper hand against you then they aren't your friend. A good example is you telling a potential sociopath/psychopath your "secret" and then they go around telling it to everyone. Or maybe you confide in them that you think you are gaining weight, and now they mention it at every possibility to make you feel ashamed.
Also, most sociopaths/psychopaths can't feel honest happiness for someones elses achievements. A dumb psychopath might get into a pissing contest if you tell them your accomplishments. A smart one might give a "compliment" disguised as a generality statement ("oh thats good" as an example) since they can't be genuinely happy for you.
I read people on "hi" and I can tell you, most of you have no chance in surviving. If you show fear you're already at their peril, they know they have you and that they can use & abuse you.

Most people use something insignificant against you, though in non-serious arguments or for fun. The difference is when they do it to actually harass you or feel superior to you, idk. I dealt with psychopaths for decades in the prison/jail system, they are an interesting group. Their psychopathy runs along a continuum from street hustles to someone void of empathic feelings. Some were nice men/women, other were obnoxious, demanding, entitled and aggressive. It always amazed me at how entitled they were, always demanding certain things as if everyone has to stop what they were doing and cater to the client's needs/wants. They could quickly become angry when they did not get what they beloved they were entitled to. One guy demanded that the jail make him a birthday cake and when that did not happen he filed grievances after grievance. He became enraged that his demand was not met.

What no one talks about is that beneath the psychopath lies a layer of intense anxiety and fear of losing the self-object representation. In other words, they actually fear death more than others do because they fear losing the only representation of existence they have, themselves. With no empathy and no attachments, the psychopath has no genuine worldview and fights tooth and nail to defend themselves because they are the only thing that can be known, discovered and appreciated.

    • @Superblingjas
      @Superblingjas ปีที่แล้ว

@@bellavia5 Everything in this video describes his behavior. I have attended therapy sessions and while my therapist has explained that she cannot diagnose him, but she does believe that he has shown behaviors / traits of a psychopath. My father tends to prey on single mothers for “lovers” and they have all left traumatized but he will never admit to anything he did (harmful actions) even if there was multiple witnesses. I say prey only because it became increasingly obvious that he enjoyed being in control of multiple people. He would isolate them from family and friends. He would also try to have them become financially dependent on him. He would love bomb and then become a totally different person once he had control.
He has also never had a healthy relationship with family, friends or lovers. It always ended messy. It is consistent that family, ex friends and ex lovers have said that he is either evil, manipulative, narcissistic, etc. He will deny any legal charges/ consequences he has received and fabricated stories to try to make it seem as though everyone is out to get him and lies about him. He used to tell me that when I was 8 years old, my mother physically abused me which never happened. It was actually him who did it, but he will become violently angry towards anyone who denies that story. He has fabricated many stories just as extravagant as the one I just mentioned, towards myself and my family, as well as his ex lovers. His mother has always “believed” his lies even if she knows that he is lying “because she doesn’t want to lose him or risk him becoming angry at her.”
He can often become violent especially in public spaces. He has had a g u n pulled on him and he told them to pull the trigger without any hesitation. In this situation, the person genuinely feared for their own safety as my father was angry at them for crossing the street (not even near him or anyone they had time and space.)
Besides preying on single mothers, he seems to have some acquaintances but is never really close with anyone. He tends to be a bit anti social unless he has something to gain from someone.
I have never in my life seen him show any remorse for his actions. His most common saying when being called out for his actions is “that’s not me I come from a cop family” or “I don’t do that I have served this country in the National Guard.” Although he was never deployed due to being color blind and has obviously been discharged.
Aside from his violence, having a conversation with him felt very uncomfortable. He never really would look anyone in the eyes but when he did, there was absolutely no emotion there. My therapist refers to it as “dead eyes.” He could be spitting from yelling but no emotion. He could be talking about being so sad but still there wouldn’t be any emotion in his eyes. He could be laughing and STILL no emotion. Most of the time he wouldn’t actually respond to what I would say. I could say “the roses are red” and he would reply with “tulips bloom around spring time.” The response would be kind of close to what the subject was but never actually a reply to what was specifically said if that makes sense.
Otherwise there were times where he wouldn’t even reply to what was said, he would just start a whole new conversation. I remember talking about the classes I was taking in high-school and he started talking about how he thought his ex girlfriend was stalking him. She wasn’t.
While I was used to that, it was so frustrating just because I never felt much of a connection with him despite trying and his claims that he was also trying.
I could go on and on about him and am happy to answer any more questions, but I have no doubt in my mind of what he is. I understand there is quite a bit of misuse of “psychopath” as some only know it as an insult. But Im not just throwing the word around in ignorance. When I first started therapy, I thought he had only been narcissistic but after speaking with a professional, I understand better.

During this time he lost everything on gambling, bet sports, rollete etc etc etc. Just when I reach 27 years and recognise my strenght I was able to leave this crime situation, with a huge trauma to dealing. Same. I consider myself very lucky to have realised, much less escaped, the situation I was in. I was treated like a toy. Sexually abused and almost murdered when I wasn’t fun to play with anymore. I had to abandon my entire family because I knew none of them would ever believe me about him. I knew how my death would appear to them. I’d been mentally ill for years (who wouldn’t be?!), and he’d have no trouble convincing them it was suicide. No one would know he’d slipped me the pills.
If psychopaths are good at beguiling other people and can easily lure them into toxic relationships, imagine what their kids must go through.

The X-Ray tech seemed to enjoy seeing me in pain and it felt like she was deliberately putting me in more pain than necessary and enjoying watching me squirm. Her eyes were dead, like how others have described their experiences with psychopaths. As I was taken back to the ER after the imaging she said, almost tauntingly, 'I hope they fix you.' It is hard to describe the tone except to say that it was very unsettling. After the bone was reset and I was given meds for the pain, I got taken back for a second x-ray. She seemed to be sizing me up to see if she could play with me to inflict more pain. However, when I was able to move without excruciating pain, she seemed to be angry and became short with me. When she finished taking the x-rays she said as I left 'well, I'm glad they fixed you,' in an almost resentful way, like I had taken something from her but she had no recourse. They do this because they feel you are more interesting and perhaps more centered and genuinely happy than they are , and they feel insecure and inadequate.
By almost always at some moment during your interactions , pointing out one or more of your 'flaws' or things you're doing wrong is truly the weak person's tactic - and they do it purposely because they want you to suddenly or always feel off guard or lesser , they want you to feel inadequate like they so often feel. In time they get addicted to this feeling as if they are always competing with you. Even if you are not interacting with them in a competitive way.

I think it's because people who get fooled tend to feel better if they tell themselves the perpetrator was supremely intelligent. Psychopaths, sociopaths, and narcissists, don't experience emotions like neurotypicals do, and they're not very good at mimicking the muscles of the face that we naturally do when we're feeling different emotions. My Dad is 100% a Psychopath. Will never answer a question directly, very messy liar, and a large sense of self-worth. Will never take responsibility for his own actions and will blame others, even if the reasoning is nonsensical. The worse though is how he takes joy in watching kids/disabled people in pain. When my parents divorced he took one thing: a video of me hurting myself as a child.
Why? He said it was funny. He thought there was nothing wrong with what he was doing since it was me hurting myself.
There was a sort of glossiness in his eyes when he told me this. Like he wasn’t fully in reality/seeing me as a person. Hard to describe it… It’s weird how disconnected he is with morality and how he views people, especially the most vulnerable members of society (children and disabled people)

I read Dr. Hare's work and, acknowledging that I'm no professional, the politician exhibited all the classic traits. Zero conscience, empathy, sympathy, guilt, power hungry and as cold as ice. His staff were simply tools and so were anyone with whom he did business. Why did I work with him? I was just starting out and never knew someone like that existed, until I got to know an uncle of mine (next comment). Man, what a baptism by fire.

I've used to lie and manipulate people a lot, and although I understood how hurtful my actions were to those around me I've always put my own needs above their. When I've got called out by close "friend", who started studying psychology, that I might be a psychopath or possibly a narcissist and ended our one-sided friendship, I had a mental breakdown realizing that I have many traits of Dark Triad and went into a two years long depression. Since then I've become more self aware and started thinking what consequences my actions and words might have beforehand, and tried to be more careful. And although I'm sure I haven't "healed", I've learned to use my intellect to do less harm. We've restarted friendship with that person under condition that he'll immediately tell me if I start falling into old destructive ways. Never had a professional examination in fear of prosecution, because here in Russia psychiatry is another penitentiary system. Oh, and I'm also a drug addict, the thrill of risking buying them is my little guilty pleasure and a way to de-stress when life becomes unbearably boring.

I believe having emotions around someone like that can either cause you to lose them, or for them to become ultra sensitive. Im lucky I think that mine were just intensified or I would not have been able to heal as much as I have. (Through therapy)
I’ve always given too much of myself to others because I was forced to give her all of my attention to feel guarded. It’s nature AND nurture when it comes to how psychopaths are made. Their brain centers light up differently on scans because that’s how they are born, but it also takes an abusive or terrible family situation for it to really kick in. That’s what several experts have said, anyway. I know I’m dealing with one right now & it’s terrifying. For some personality disordered people, they cause damage but it may be more of a byproduct… but for psychopaths, the damage IS the point. It’s not the bug, it’s the feature. They gain pleasure from it. True sadism.
