    I wanted to share with you the key light setup I've been using in my videos lately. The Aputure Lantern Soft Box isn't really designed for key lights, but there's no reason you can't use it as one. I have a small space with low ceilings so bigger soft boxes aren't an option. Given its lantern shape, the Aputure Lantern Soft Box does a great job of giving a soft light with a good wrap. Cool beans.

    Thanks so much for this detailed lighting with the Aputure lantern. Just wondering if I can use this for filming or documentary interviews. That sure is a great light and light modifier.

      Hey, thank you. Definitely. The only thing you have to be aware of is light spill since the lantern soft box puts out light almost in 360 degrees. Fortunately, the Lantern Soft box comes with a skirt for flagging the light so it doesn't hit parts of the scene you don't want it to

    Fantastic video 🙏 do you think this would work for a two person video podcast with two of these light angled at 45 degrees for two close shots of each person and then a wide of the pair down the middle? I’m thinking each could provide a key for their subject and a fill for the other person?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, definitely. I think that's called a cross-key setup. You could probably use just one lantern between both people. Kind of why these are more flexible than a traditional softbox

    Phillip, that was powerful. The tips are incredibly useful. I was particularly interested how the lighting should match your profession. That was something I had not considered. I am a mindful/health coach and will do a series of videos. I have the Amaran (Aputure) 100d, ZV-e10, Sigma 16mm, 1.4 and am also in a small space. What are your thoughts about mood to light it and position of the key...in your humble opinion?

      Hi Bill, thank you for the kind words. I'd suspect that something bright and evenly lit--high key lighting--would be appropriate for your content. It might be tough with only one COB light, but if you can make use of natural light, then it might work. You might try just pointing your Amaran at the ceiling and bouncing the light to try to brighten the entire space

    Hi, thx for the video, I’m using same lighting and camera but I struggle to get such clear shots. Can you please suggest camera settings what you have used for this video?

    • @PhillipRPeck

      Hmm, I think your channel looks pretty great. Maybe the only difference between the look I got in my video versus some of the talking head shots on your channel is the lighting ratio between the subject and the background. Your videos are much more evenly lit--as in, there's not much difference between the brightness of you and the background. Whereas, in my video, I am lit more brightly than the background. Maybe that is what you're seeing and describing as "clear." However, with your content and style, I think evenly lit is an appropriate choice. It shouldn't be "cinematic" or moody. And you're obviously sitting at or near your desk so it wouldn't be appropriate for you to be much brighter than what's on your desk.
      In your video about the portable laptop monitor, your face is over-exposed so you're losing detail and clarity. Try using zebras or the waveform and make sure that the brightest parts of your face are hitting around 70 IRE (you can set a zebra to 70 if the waveform is too hard to see. Lower the output of the light or increase your shutter or aperture until the zebras disappear from your face).
      What lens are you using? If it's a kit lens, that may be the culprit if it's not particularly sharp.
      Hope that helps. Let me know. Good luck!

    Good information... Did you set 45 degre but hight of softbox set 6 ft ?

    • @PhillipRPeck
      @PhillipRPeck  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah, it's been a while since I made this. Angle is definitely around 45 for the most part but my room is very tight with angled ceiling, so it's probably not quite that high

      On the camera lens? I don't remember if I was using a filter in this video or not. If I was, it was probably a Zomei variable ND filter
