    Lantern looks so much better to me. I’ve been using a softbox but I’m going to give my lantern a go for my next video. Thanks for this!

    I really like the lantern globe, it looks ideal for a small bedroom corner studio with room for only one light!

    hi! i just saw your video, i really like the way you give me the information about comparison and review the lighting, and decide to be your new subscriber!! you did great, keep it up!!!

    I appreciate your comparison! Very clear and straight to the point.
    I was on the fence about picking up a softbox to replace my lantern, but after seeing your comparison, I think I may actually have the better option for my needs already, so thank you for helping me!

    I am filming and making videos for years and everytime I do a video my eyes keep hurting me and I never was comfotable with filming, I thought my eyes were the problem, went to check, everything was normal. Thanks for the video I will try the lantern ones and see if it would be better.

      I don't know about your setup but you can set your camera so your main light is very low, I teach it in my IMPACT program if you're interested. I know exactly what you mean about feeling under a spotlight.

    I agree with using lantern !! Plus you can control light spill with the skirts that are included on some models, or you can buy separately,, I like to control some of the side and top spill by skirting those areas a bit !

    • @AdrianSalisbury
      @AdrianSalisbury  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, but this model doesn’t include them.

    A couple of months ago I used this lantern softbox at a shoot and the result I got was really awesome. Now almost all of my works are done by using lantern softbox.

    I wonder if this lantern would work for filming a training video series where the presenter will be standing and the shot will be capturing their whole upper body. Any thoughts on what would work best for that?

    Interesting concept. It could replace a 2-3 light setup or a bunch of reflector panels if you need to work fast and give up some directional control. Obviously only relevant when indeed using in a small space with neutral walls that can offer some light bouncing back onto the subject - without creating unwanted color shifts. But I've seen people use this in large venues or even outside... I don't understand how some people lack the basic knowledge of light and exposure. It's the pop up flash diffuser all over again :)

  • @AhsanZafar
    @AhsanZafar ปีที่แล้ว +3

    you may be liking the lantern better but notice the grey haze behind you because of the lantern and you are not able to controll your lights properly with lantern as its spilling in your practical lights behind

      If you mean over his right shoulder that’s another light casting that cyan hue. It’s intentional. Check the wide shot. 1:37

    It might be more comfortable for you but personally, I think the directionality of the softbox makes for a much more engaging image with that noticable contrast boost. But hey, it's subjective and neither is wrong of course 🙂

    would you recommend the aputure 60d with a lantern softbox or the GVM bi-colour 100w lighting kit (also has a lantern softbox)? I will be using the set up as an upgrade to my ring light for self tape auditions. The noise output is a bit relevant but I am mostly after soft flattering lighting :)

    • @AdrianSalisbury

      I prefer the Amaran 100XS, the 60 has a fan noise if it's close to you

      thank you! I ended up getting the 120dii with an aputure lantern! I think i might use a bounce board or something to make the lighting even more flattering. I also think I'll add a couple of softboxes to light up the medium sized room better. Perhaps i'll try the mountdog bicolour ones, as i have tried the neewer brand and found the light to harsh with only one setting)@@AdrianSalisbury

    Hello, many thanks and congratulation for your videos which are always very interesting. What would you use to properly light a yoga room? For an online Yoga class with Zoom, I would like the teacher to have nice general lighting.

      You need a Bowens fit light but there are cheap units if you like, but the quality of colour may be lost.

    I think you still look good with the soft box but if no comparison the lantern is fantastic mostly for beauty shot , moreover your soft box is shallow maybe that's why you don't like the result, try a deep parabolic next time you might like the result.
