    Thank you for this review. I have just purchased this system sight unseen online here in Australia with the Howa 1500 .308 long range 24inch barrel, and I'm very excited to receive it, feel it and shoot it. You have given me confidence in my decision to purchase it. Thank you. Adrian from Australia.

    Thank you for helping to refine the design of the ESS. I’m getting mine as soon as the carbon fibre forend comes out.

    Bought that skeleton carbine stock for my m1a in a blackfeather chassis. I love it. Looks great and works perfectly for the range.
    Its also less expensive than a prs stock at about the same weight but in much tougher aluminum. Mdt really has their pricing on point.
    The ess chassis will be at the top of my list for sure if i ever build a custom bolt action.
    Thanks for the review

    Thanks for a great review! I wasn’t sure about m-lok on top and picatinny rail mounting as an option to “standard” NV forend but you’ve confirmed that way for me. Really appreciate that!

    At the 22 minute mark you talk about the Skeleton Carbine stock. I did rotate the cheek piece clockwise for a better and comfortable fit. Mine is on a LSS-22 chassis. And it now comes with just the foam pad on the tube if you prefer. Love MDT

    Hey John great video! Im thinking of using the ESS Chassis for a 224 Valkyrie build for Varmint hunting and PRS matches. What are your thoughts and what if anything would you do different now using the ESS. Also what barrel contour would you use for the 224 Valkyrie? Thanks and keep up the great work!

    You forgot to mention that the comb is also adjustable left/right. Most won't adjust it due to support side shooting, but is available if you are strictly a strong side shooter and want your cheek closer to centerline.

    Great review, as always, John. Fair and unbiased. 2 questions: (1) Do you think a user could put c-clips on the threaded adjust rod on the cheekpiece to "lock" it in place once height is set? Similar to Terry Cross' KMW Loggerhead? (2) Which barreled action is in the chassis? AAC-SD? Did you see any performance improvement or drawback from other platforms that barreled action has been in?

    John, every Monday I'm like a kid waiting to open his next present. I love the videos and have learned a lot about precision shooting. One question I have, when I reload large volumes, I always seem to get slowed down at the case trimming step. Trimming by hand takes a long time compared to how streamlined the other steps have become. Do you have any recomendations to speed up the case trimming step?

    You mention that the inlet is acceptable for oversized PTG recoil lugs. I've also read on MDT's website that it fits "most aftermarket recoil lugs". I have a badger .312 lug on my 300wm, would this require inletting or is it good to go? Awesome review by the way.

    How big of an opening is the forend tube? I've got a pretty big pressed on muzzle brake. It would be a bummer to buy the chassis and not be able to slide the forend over the barrel.

    Great video. Do you think once the cerrocoat in the magwel wears a little the mags will drop free? What is the benefit of a longer front section (12" v 18" (I think you said 18...))

    • @IISIDESWIPEZII
      @IISIDESWIPEZII 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      snteevveetns it's all user preference mate. If you prefer a heavier rifle, a more Forward weight bias. You may have more accessories you wish to mount or even a very large night vision optic. It's all preference. I, for instance, ordered a 15 inch full rail. I'm running a 20 inch barrel, will be mounting nv and also an IR illuminator. This set up with give me awesome night time Varminting ability, whilst saving a few ounces on weight, that I would have had wasted if I got the 18 inch.

    Hey there,
    At this point, I'm asking everyone I think may know, I'm having feed issues with my 22-250 where the polymer 10 rnd MDT .308 mag will not cycle more than 3-4 rounds correctly before it spits rounds into my chamber and jams. I would like to keep using my polymer 10rnd .308 mags as I got them for this rifle specifically. Do you have any suggestions, or know of a manufacturer that specializes in banana style magazines for 22-250 with 10rnd capacity? I hear its a shoulder issue on the case and that the spring tension in front can be increased simply by stretching it, but that solution is only temporary. I am looking for a permanent solution with 100% reliable feeding every time.
    Thanks,
    chris

    If the gunsmith would measure the space available for the lug before installing the lug, one wouldn't have to send the chassis out to be opened up after the fact.

    • @8541tactical
      @8541tactical  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +redleg1013 many shooters buy the chassis as an upgrade later on. I agree if the system is built for the chassis, the proper lug can be ordered before hand.

  • @IISIDESWIPEZII
    @IISIDESWIPEZII 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have had a disappointing experience with my ESS... I have a Rem 700, 5R gen 2 in this, and magazines that aren't MDT branded will not click and stay in the rifle. I have magpul polymer mags and also steel accurate mags, and none of them will set in place. You can just pull them out. I have bashed on them to seat them and they just won't. If I open the bolt, then the magpul polymer mags will seat, but the bolt will not run over the bolt. The accurate mag simply won't fit. However the MDT mags, both steel and polymer fit just fine. I'm a bit sus to be honest. It seems that they've done this on purpose. Just letting you guys know.
