    Great video!!! I have a balboa 2000 LE system with the two M7 sensors at the side of the heater as you so clearly show. My system starts normally, but the temperature quickly reads 118 degrees (in just a minute of operation) and shuts off. Codes displayed are OHH and FHL with the filters removed. Any thoughts?.

    Thanks for the information on the pressure switch. I didn't know what it was or how to get it off when swapping out the heater. Ended up turning the little plastic adjust quite a bit before I finding out the whole thing screwed off. I'll do a continuity test to adjust it or get a new one if I can't get it to work properly.

    2007 Caldera Niagara - I've replaced the pressure switch at the beginning of the last two seasons due to the temperature going too high. That has fixed my problem each year., now again I have a similar issue, but slightly different. Refilled, flushed, drained, refilled and replaced filter. Spa comes up to temperature and maintains during the daytime, however, by morning, the spa is at 99 degrees and there are four solid lines on the control panel indicating high limit error. Before I replace the switch again, I thought I would ask you if you think I should take a different step. Also, I want to verify that this model should use the 25amp switch not the universal 1 amp (the 1 amp switch does not look like the one that came out originally). Thank you kindly for your advice.

    Hello “Spa Guy”! I watch your videos a lot online and really appreciate the level of sharing, very educational and informative.
    I have a question and it would be amazing if you had the time to read it over and offer guidance.
    I purchased a used, older hot tub. I don’t know the exact brand but it is old with one pump and minimal jets. It has a Spa Pak Gamma 240 (very analog old school, no display etc)
    When purchased, I was told it needed a heater element as the breaker was tripping, so I’ve replaced that. I just had the electrical connected yesterday.
    So, with the heater switch in the off position, I can turn the tub on. The pump comes on in the low setting just fine. I can even press the “button” (the type that activates the second speed with an air line to the spa pak) and the motor kicks into higher gear and the jets seem to work, no problems.
    As soon as I turn the heater control knob to “on” the breaker trips, this is my issue. Today I went and bought a new thermostat, replaced it and same thing. I also disconnected the high limit switch and tried again, same thing. I have since found one way to make it so that the breaker doesn’t trip when I turn the heat knob on - I pull the water tube that comes from the heater element tube on the pump off of the connection nipple to the pressure switch that is part of the spa pak.
    When I pull that tube off, water of course freely flows out of it. When I kick the pump into high gear, it comes out with more pressure. And again, with this disconnected, I can turn the heater knob on all the way. Now I have no idea if it’s actually heating anything, but the breaker no longer trips.
    From what I have read online, (and I think even heard from you) the pressure switch won’t normally trip a breaker unless there is a water leak into the pak, and after pulling it off, I don’t believe there is any leak. In fact, the little unit looks new given this tub may be 25 years old. Not sure if it matters but the switch is called “The Little General” switch number DD05SS
    Would you have any suggestions or ideas for me?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    PS - there was a while there where I couldn’t figure out for the life of me why my TH-cam “suggestions” were filled with Elvis Presley material, but after spending more time in your channel, I realize you’re the culprit! :)
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Hi Spa Guy. Thanks for the video. I learned a lot. Mine is an older hot tub. It works well until recently when it threw a FL code and the heater won't heat. The pump works and the current seems normal. I tried to jumper the pressure switch to by pass it. But it did not work. What other check would you suggest? Thanks!

    Recently bought a house and it has an indoor hot tub. The plate on the Raypak heater is 1988 "model EL 552-2"
    It's a very old system but to my surprise after fiddling around with a few things it worked. All I have to do is open the valves and put water in it and the pump and air blower turned on.
    The heater turned on for a while and then turned off but it was heating.
    My pump has 2 speeds a (high) and (low.) There was a note from the previous owner that said always run on low unless you're in the hot tub then you would turn on high.
    When I turn the pump on high the heater always works but the heater no longer works on low.
    To me this seems like it's a pressure switch.
    I just found your video in my search for what to do.
    Should I order the new pressure switch from raypak?
    Should I take things apart to see if there's something in there maybe the pump?
    I've never had a hotrub but I feel like the pressure in the tub part seems good. A nice little current on low and nice hard jet on high.
    With pump on low heater does not sense flow.

    This is so step-by-step and helpful... thank you!
    Have a Hot Spot TX that had the double yellow lines. Figured it was a bad switch so got a new one and installed it and... same.
    When I turn it on and turn on the circ pump, I can definitely feel/hear circulation through the heater manifold.
    If I short the circuit the heater does turn on, so it doesn't seem like a board issue.
    What do you think: bad replacement switch, or...?

    Hi Spa Guy, I haven't gotten any error code but the hot tub heats when it feels like it, there is no obstruction in the filter and the pump works regular. I left the hot tub running continuously all of winter and it only got to 100 degrees once and I dont know if the issue is the pressure switch or the heat exchanger. FYI this is a Cal Spas from back like 2000's (2100 series) from what i gather... the hot tub came with the house when bought. Last summer I swapped the dually pump for the replacement pump.

    hey spa guy. i have a six year old jacuzzi hot tub and recently getting a FL1 code. Did some research and lead me to pressure switch. I changed the switch and still getting the FL1 code. I have changed the filter and checked for any debris - all seem good. Additionally, the FL1 code comes and goes. Sometimes the heat pump 1 works just fine - other times the FL1 comes on. One additional interesting finding - when I use a bypass alligator clip wire to connect the red and black on the switch, everything operates perfectly fine...this is what lead me to believe it was the pressure switch. What do you think Spa Guy? Thanks a lot.

    Thanks so much, but I have an odd problem on my Cal Spa. The high and low pressure pumps work fine without codes, but as soon as the pump turns off, I get a FL code. I jumpered the switch and it kicks back up without issue. Also, if I wait, it seems to clear on its own. So it seems like either there isnt enough pressure in the tube when the pump is off OR the switch is faulty. That seem right? What would cause low pressure code when the pumps are off? (PS. spa runs fine in all jets and filter is clear.)

    So our jets are working, the filters aren't plugged and there is hot water bubbling out of the base vent. Everything was great till last week. Now, no matter what we set the temp at, it ONLY heats up to 86 degrees. It has been at 86 degrees for several days. So its heating and monitoring the temp, just not taking it up high enough. ITs a Tiger River Sumatran. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is not heating... Just water movement friction through the pump and heat from the motor will cause it to heat to a certain point based on the ambient temperature.. There is on most of these tubs a No Fault 6000 heater... If yours has that heater there is a hi limit button hidden on the top of the heater black box... it is under a clear plastic cover and can be tripped... I would look there first... while is is possible you were feeling hot water from the heater jet you usually cannot feel a temperature difference from there if the system is working correctly.. I would start with the reset.. You really need a meter with an amperage clamp to see if it is really heating or not.. If it has an IQ2020 or IQ2000 some of those packs do have a heater board that goes bad on the left... Spa Guy

    I have a Balboa system and I'm about ready to replace the pressure switch. Question about the pressure switch is there any polarity with the wires does the red wire have to be on top or does the black wire have to be on top or vice a versa. Since I'm not the first owner of the spa tub the red wire is on top of the pressure switch the black is below it. Is this correct? Thank you for this very informative video

    • @SpaGuy

      Jerry there is no polarity on a pressure switch.. It is simply a normally open circuit that closes with water pressure and connects the two wires together.. Spa Guy

      George, That code is not familiar.. On a Jacuzzi Premium the pump does not have to operate for the tub to work and heat as there is a small circulation pump for the heating.. • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Normally the heater itself cannot heat past the set temp, if it goes past the set temp it is something else like a newly installed pump with the speeds backwards or if it has Balboa controls which Dynasty normally doesn't the filter cycles could be set too high.. The other thing would be is the water temp actually 110? If you had a stuck heater relay it would overheat the water in the tube to 110 but not the entire tub of water.. Had you done any repairs just before this started? Spa Guy

    Great Video but I am stumped. We have a 2002 Vita Spa L 200 Series. Ran the diagnostics got the code HC. Everything I read said to replace the Heater. Went to the dealer and they had one. Replaced the heater and it is still not working and still showing HC. I pulled off the circuit board and there is no sign of any burning. I hate to just replace parts although I am sure the dealer likes selling obsolete/discontinued heaters for 248.00. Tub does stay at 85 degrees but that has been slightly lower then the daily temps here. Any advice is most certainly appreciated.

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Eric, Usually a Hi Limit code is HL or HH not HC.. If it was a Hi Limit code the heater could not be the cause.. What would cause a HL code is the heater staying on with too little water movement or a stuck relay.. Things like that.. You were lucky to even be able to buy a heater as they are obsolete.. I did look up the code and it says HC means heater error and I think those boards has current sensing loops and for whatever reason the system is not sensing the heater drawing current.. That could be bad relays on the board or any number of other things.. Spa Guy

    • @ericbuzza6265
      @ericbuzza6265 6 ปีที่แล้ว

I bypassed it altogether and shorted the leads from pcb and powered it up, and got it to heat, but usually after a couple hours of trying to get up to desired temp from 70 degrees, i get the 3 dots again and heating stops. Hi Spa Guy. I am having problems with my baja spa. Flo error message. Drained and refilled. Checked filter and removed filter. Had a spa repairman come and replace the pressure switch. It came back on and he said he didn't have any idea and wouldn't come back. I checked the empeller and it is clean and turns easily. It pumps water through the system. It will run until it reaches temp then the flo error comes back on. If you restart it, it will run until it reaches temp again. It seems that I can keep bleeding the system and I can't figure out where the air is coming from. From everything I have read it points to the circuit board I would be most grateful for any suggestions. Also, when you press the pump button you can hear the heater switch click and the FLO disappears and the temp comes on...

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello If it is running to temp and then giving an error message the pressure switch is stuck closed.. To verify this after it gets to temp and the flo error comes on unplug the pressure switch on one side and the error should go away.. or you could verify that the Pressure Switch is open with a meter when the pump is not running... Any hints on getting the pressure switch loose? I have a d-tec (your sku HTP47-439-1295) switch and it doesn't want to let go (when turning counter-clockwise)... I'm afraid I'm going to break it off and not have enough to grab onto to remove the rest!

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You turn in left and lift up some.. On a D-tec the bottom edge of the switch is hex shape for a wrench.. If it does break off usually you can put a flat screw driver in the center and turn it out but if it won't turn out with the switch I suspect the threads are stripped.. In that case you can grad the switch with pliers and twist it out.. Lastly if the switch does break of you can take a plumbing torch and heat the plastic and it will burn out.. Spa Guy

    • @mrandtx
      @mrandtx 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply! Yep, I was using an open-ended wrench. Could feel the plastic twist (without it nipple/threads moving). I'll use more pressure and just deal with whatever happens. I was also thinking of trying to use freeze spray on it to get it to shrink slightly.

    my costaway inflatable is not heating. No error codes. Doesn't look like any water damage on heater or circuit board (by looking at outside). Does make a harsh rumble noise when pressing the heat button then goes back to normal. Just never heats. less then 6 months old.

    My S-class has the no heat, CR12 Led on. Fuses are fine, flow switch checks out, no power to heater. When I remove and reinstall one wire to pressure switch, right most relay closes but still no 240 to heater. Any suggestions? Getting 17 volts between relay connector and ground and each heater connection to ground. Thanks!

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I would suspect a cold solder joint on the bottom tandem relay above the right leg of the heater element on the board... There are three relays related to the heater the left side is a single relay and the right is a tandem set where both have to close for heat.. the top right one closes for the Hi limit and the bottom right closes when it calls for heat.. It is usually the bottom one.. So you can power down remove the screws from the board and pull the board out and look behind it and in the case of an S-Class you can do this without unhooking any wires including he incoming power wires.. This particular board is bad about the bottom relay getting a cold older joint and catching on fire and burning a hole in the board... Therefore if you see soot in the box and it is dark around the right heater tab area it is too late.. Spa Guy

    • @gseppi
      @gseppi 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK I will check. Right now the center relay doesn't close when it calls for heat which is connected to the right relay via jumper wire. Only the right relay closes. Thanks

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, so you described all of the heater relays closing and even having voltage at them and now you are saying they do not... If you are saying the the small LED on the lower right side of the board is lit and there are 3 dots flashing on the topside that is a High Limit code,,, That is why it is not heating.. You either have a bad board, Hi-Limit or something actually causing a high limit which usually would not happen fast after power up.. Usually if the system is not engaging the right lower heater relay there is a code...

    So confused!! I have an older hot tub that was never used, a Laser Plus Whirlpool Spa, and it is not heating properly. I have it set on 95 and stays at a steady temperature of 91. When I bump it up to 104 to get in it, it will not heat up until it goes through its cycle then it will heat up. I have turned it off at the main switch and when I turn it back on I hear the pump try to come on but then stop but it will come on if I turn the jets on but will not heat up until it goes through its cycle. There is no error code that comes on, the filters are clean and nothing is stuck in there and it has the right amount of water in it. Made a phone call to someone and they thought it might be my pressure switch. Do you have any idea what it might be before I make this purchase??

      Based on your description I don't even have a guess.. I need to know what brand of electrics you have.. Also you need to leave the tub at 104 if that is where you use it.. It costs more to keep bringing it up to temp than leaving it at temp.. Thanks, Spa Guy

    I have an '08 HotSpring Grandee. The wire for the pressure switch goes inside a closed box at the end of the heating system flow pipe elbow where the other sensors are located. I'm afraid to open this with full tub to see what's in there. Will I find a switch replaceable by your 1A switch? Will it fit the compartment? Can I replace it with a full tub?

      If you have ano fault style heater which it sounds like you do just bypass the pressure switch.. The new version of the heater no longer uses a pressure switch.. You just cut the wire and tie the two wires together on the side that plugs into the board.. Thanks, Spa Guy

      Thank you for the quick reply. I was confused before but I have the older style heater with a built in pressure switch and a pressure switch cable the comes from the heater for connection to the control panel. This was working for 15 years but recently I had a flashing red and green light which would not reset indicating a bad internal pressure switch which I confirmed by bypassing. Is there any safe alternative to replacing the heater. Please advise.

  • @troyalec50

    I get the FL code and the only way I can reset it is to pull one wire off of the pressure switch. The pump immediately comes on (with good flow), but the heater won't come on until I reconnect the wire. Then, it works fine until it gets up to temperature, but then it shows the FL code and we have to start all over. What do you think is the problem? Thanks.

    Hi Spa Guy, I'm new to hot tubs and I just got a used one hooked up by an electrician 5 days ago. The pressure switch was broken so that was replaced and the tub heated up fine to 102 degrees as set. After about 24hrs the tub shut off for about 4-6 hrs with a "FL" error code… then came on again for 4-6hrs… then off again. Because the pressure switch was just replaced I adjusted the calibration wheel on the pressure switch, thinking that was the issue (I've since watched your video informing me that is a no no). Then, I took out the old filter and a couple hours later the tub came on again. Since then, I've put in a new filter and the tub has been running for a couple days without shutting down….. but now the temp won't get to 102 -- its at 91 right now.
    Did my tampering with the calibration on the pressure switch lead to the tub not heating? Can I make pressure switch right again? …perhaps another issue.

      Hello jazzy kazz, Do you know the history of the tub? Were the
      electronics replaced recently? When is te last time it worked correctly?
      Have you ever seen it work correctly? The reason I ask this is it could
      be a man made issue not a mechanical issue.. Also what brand is the
      tub and electronics? Spa Guy

    • @jazzykazz9529
      @jazzykazz9529 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Spa Guy. I don't know the history of the tub. I got it from someone who moved into a house and they didn't want the tub anymore. The tub seemed to be working when I originally looked at it and on the day it got disconnected and moved -- by this I mean the jets turned on and the temp was 98. Its a 2001 Beachcomber 350 model and the rating plate on the heater/electronics casing says "Balboa Instruments" model DD-2500ES-DCAJ (there are a couple other stickers on it too).
      Earlier today I turned off the breaker, waited a minute, then turned it back on. The tub didn't come on but it displayed the "FL" error again. I went out for 3hrs and when I got home (10 mins ago) the tub/pump was on again with no more "FL" error and a 89 degree temp (its subzero temperatures outside here). The tub heated up fine last Saturday when it first got hooked up… that was until the first "FL" error shut it down. It seems like such an easy fix, like a minor tweak or adjustment. Any suggestions before I bite the bullet and hire a service technician?
      Thanks Again

    • @jazzykazz9529
      @jazzykazz9529 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've since got it to a point where I can reset the tub from the breaker and the tub/pump turns on right away with no "FL" error code. Still not seeing the heater/red light come on right away. Currently the jets are on high for its 15min cycle to give a little work out.

      Unless you have slice valves you can close to keep water from leaking you have to drain the tub before replacing the valve..

    So I've got a weird one.
    I restored an old hot tub. I have a united spa T5 topside that has been stuck at 102 forever. No flo codes. Pump works, heater works, everything is great, except the buttons on the topside are screwed up. So I was reading that as long as I have a b5 board or newer, (Which I do, a B5 board), I could replace the topside with a T7S. So I did.
    I plugged it in, and EVERYTHING works great, EXCEPT, after 5 seconds whether the jets are on high or low I get "FLO" error.
    What's odd to me is if I hook the old topside back in, no errors at all. The only time I got a "FLO" error on the old topside was when I was burping the hot tub. That's all corrected.
    I pulled the filter, checked all the plumbing, checked the pump, everything is working exactly as it should. But I'm still getting "FLO" with the new topside.
    I'm wondering if maybe the pressure sensor is having issues? Maybe the "low" pump isn't moving enough to hit the switch? It's definitely odd.

      Yvette that code I have not seen a Pressure Switch code is usually a P51 on a Blue Ridge..You 18 may be an upside down 51.. In this case a 5 means the circ pump has been turned on but the pressure switch didn't close.. It could be a Pressure Switch, Circ Pump or filter stopped up.. Spa Guy

    So my pump is surging. Onnnnnnn Off. Ooooooonnnn. Off. Error Code FLO and the pump stops. Would this be caused from bad pressure sensor? I adjusted it ALL the way to the bottom, still FLO. I shorted the leads, FLC came up. Looks like I found it eh?

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Andrew, No a pressure switch will not cause your pump to surge.. Pump surging comes from many different things.. here are a few things.. Filter stopped up, Low water level, Internal motor issue, Something caught in the impeller, some kind of restriction on the suction side of the pump, if it is a 115V plug n play hot tub running it on a drop cord could cause it... The pressure switch again has nothing to do with the pump running or not... Thanks, Spa Guy

      Thanks for the fast reply. I'll take the pump apart today and see what's in there. I'm using a 15 amp cord running from my GFCI cord. You think I need a bigger cable running to the tub?

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you are running this on a drop cord that is probably the cause.. Has it ever run correctly on this cord?

    • @andrewnormore7093
      @andrewnormore7093 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is the first time it's NOT running on 220. I bought it for $200 bucks. I just finished checking the impeller, 100% clean. I just recorded a video, if you can identify what's going on, I'll gladly buy a replacement from your store :) Unless it's the wiring :/

    • @SpaGuy
      @SpaGuy  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is the pump a 115v pump? The clues are the tub ran before you moved it.. It ran on 230V.. If you converted it back to 115v it has to have a 115v pump in it.. The length of the drop cord make a huge difference... If you have the tub on a 15a 100' cord it will not run on high speed or it will ramp up and surge.. post the video and send me a link here..
