@@2009dudeman true, but the boats we use at work will only start if the killcord is attached its not a switch like most normal ones, it's more like a black circle and the lanyard clips to it, there is always at least 2 guys in the boat, and there is a second spare kill cord so if the driver goes in then the other guy can can go get him, but that's the professional side can't imagine that many small boat owners think like that

Most of the small boats (Sub 30') I have been on you could momentarily override the dead mans switch, I call it that but it's just a clip that you attach to your belt loop that goes to an electric switch somewhere on the console, usually with some way to override it so long as you hold it with your finger. But I'd agree most small boat owners have no clue how important that can be. I've seen two incidents first hand on a nearby lake with lots of jet boats and other stunters (who have more money than brains) lose control of their boats. One flew out after a nosedive turn that threw the boat around, it ran off and slammed into a boat lift halfway across the lake and still ramped up the shore onto a guys yard. The other threw the driver out after jumping a bigger boats wake at a bad angle, thankfully the passenger held on and was able to pull the throttle back.

My dad and I would sit at busy boat ramps for hours, some of them very tricky to begin with, some very easy, but we would be in tears from laughing so hard, and you cant let them see you laughing at them, that was the hard part.
