I commend you for making a video on the subject as enforcement of emissions equipment on diesels is being ramped up.I am a diesel mechanic I work on mostly heavy trucks Macks international freight liner,I owned 4 diesel pick ups myself,Once the DPF came out I stopped buying diesel trucks. Some of your information is a little bit incorrect and I would like to make you aware of it. You stated that DEF fluid was brought out because people were complaining about poor fuel mileage.DEF fluid came out because there was no other way to reduce NOX emissions enough to meet tier 4 final Emissions levels without it. International Did not use def fluid until 2015 they use a very high percentage of EGR from 2011 to 2014 to supposedly meet tier 4. final emissions.Their trucks did not meet emissions standards ,eventually international was fined a tremendous amount of money, I believe that the only reason they let the company stay in business is because they were such a high percentage of their trucks that are school buses and municipal trucks and if the company was put out of business it would have a huge effect on the entire trucking industry. Not only did they not make the emissions without it the EGR coolers failed an alarming rate because you’re running a very high percentage of egr was causing egr coolers to crack sometimes every 8-10,000 miles, and it was causing engine oil to be contaminated very quickly. By using Def fluid, The auto makers were able to drastically cut the amount of EGR needed this helps keep the engine oil cleaner , and reduce the pressure on the EGR cooler and cooling system of the engine. The other mistake you stated was that DEF is injected while the truck is in regen or burning off, That is true but DEF is also injected anytime the engine is up to temperature it’s injected slowly insteadily. The systems are getting better they are now installed on new trucks as a module containing the DIesel oxidizing Catalyst,The DPF and the DEF injector nozzle. One area where big trucks and light pick ups differ is the way they inject the diesel fuel large trucks use what’s called a doser behind the turbo charger,I think the Duramax uses this as well I know that early Fords used extra fuel in cylinders seven and eight, That just washed down those cylinders and ate the rings. The doser injector is a way better system. In United States while it may be legal locally in certain areas do not have an emissions inspection it is still illegal in all 50 states to remove any emissions control device from any vehicle for on road purposes. Here in New York commercial truck inspectors know what to look for if you have a 2008 and newer truck and you’re right rear fender has soot on it,And you’re driving in Rockland County or further south where they have DEMA ,which is “diesel emissions metropolitan area” regulations, you may get pulled over and inspected. I personally can’t stand the DEF systems, They have caused our large plow trucks to go down like you said for weeks at a time, our trucks are kind of important m since they’re plowing town roads are they useless sitting on the side of the road idling with a triangle on the dash board. .I have to go out with a scanner and do a forced regen ,Which can take up to 45 minutes in order to just be able to drive the truck back to the shop. Unfortunately this happens with brand new trucks like you said the cold weather and the roads are are not friendly with DEF heaters or lines.

@dontfit6380 actually pushing back can lead to retaliatory regulations, laws, and increased penalties. The best form of pushback is when it is undetected, up until nearly everyone has done it. If by the time daddy finds out, they find out only 10% complied, they're far less likely to try and punish those who didn't. But if you rebelliously just do it yourself and flaunt it, you'll get busted and make things worse for everyone.

Also, I’m Canadian, and I like Canadian content.
I had a diesel but sold it after too many check engine lights all emissions related; nothing to do with drivability. All were going to cost thousands so I unloaded it. If I did buy a diesel truck or car again I’d look for pre 2008 or whenever DPFs or DEF came out, no matter the miles. I’m in favour of clean air but I confess to liking the smell of unprocessed diesel exhaust since it reminds me of trains.

That the stealerships won't cover cause they know they're junk, and make the consumer pay out of pocket for and have the $100k truck down for weeks like he said in the video. I have a 2015 lml and I deleted it and it gets way better fuel mileage than it did without the tune... So I'm a little confused as to him saying it doesn't get much better. Only think I could think of is, if you're on the go button more often than not them ya, going to not get the best fuel mileage, but if you chill with the go button it gets way better, especially if you drive in the top tune all the time. 🤷‍♂️EPA & GOVERNMENT messing everything up as always. Let mechanics handle mechanics stuff and let cooks handle food stuff and don't let the FDA handle food and drug and don't let government in our lives other than for war from other countries other than that, they are not needed.

Gotta correct a couple things on the oe emissions side. The dpf is for particulate matter(soot). The regen process raises the temp in the dpf to burn off that soot. On Ram trucks, this is done if too much differential pressure is sensed across the dpf and on an engine hours basis. On my def equipped trucks, this was about every 24 engine hours. On my pre-def Rams it was less than every 10 engine hours.
DEF is injected into the catalyst after the dpf & is not used for cleaning the soot or in the regen process in any way. It reacts with the catalyst to remove NoX emissions. This allows for less egr to be used on def equipped trucks. Less egr = less soot= less regen’s.

How do you feel about the "in-cylinder" egr on the 04.5 to 07 5.9 trucks that's built into the cam? I know guys have been swapping them out to the 188/220 cams to get rid of it. I've never gotten to swapping a cam out and testing the numbers for myself but curious if you've ever dealt with them. Seems like a much simpler, less fail prone system than the external one that kills all these new diesels.

My only problem with the modern Diesel emissions is the EGR. If there was another way to burn off unburned diesel without redirecting it back through the engine I would be all for it. My first experience with diesel engines was with my grandfather's 89 Dodge ram. He still has it to this day and it still runs great. I remember driving it about 15 years ago and the odometer rolled over. I bought my first diesel 3 years ago and I'm disgusted it to find out that it may not even make it to 100,000 MI.

Good, somewhat accurate video dude. Funny you had to explain what “deleting” is. And yes, you should do it, if you want a diesel that will last and not break down all the time. Or, you can go spend $80k on your new loaded truck, that runs like shit after a few months of spending tons of money on shit fuel, shit DEF, and additives for oil and fuel. I agree with Jumper here, the DEF fluid consists of Urea and water. The nozzle sprays the def fluid into the exhaust to kill off the nitrous oxide gases from the exhaust (NO2). The regen starts when the engine ECU send more diesel towards the DPF and starts the burn off that way.

I recently bought a brand new 2022 Silverado 2500 HD diesel in Sep. Was getting approx. 18ish mpg with mostly highway miles. This week After biggest snow storm in Dec. That I can remember hits us in Michigan. Truck now is struggling to get 12 mpg. Sitting at 30% oil life from new, Haven’t even needed first oil change yet. I’m changing tomorrow btw. First diesel thinking on a delete. But scared of the warranty issue. Or I’ll trade her in for a gasser. I don’t know. Use for work hauling heavies couple times a week. Had a 1500 gasser before that struggled a bit with the loads. My thoughts are a 3/4 gasser would probably do it. Are diesels really that quirky? Great video btw. Thanks bud!

He's 100% right on deleting it I will speak from experience if you delete the EGR cap it off because the a little electrical motor that opens and closes the gears can become brittle and break and your EGR valve can get stuck half open or all the way open or you'll get lucky and be closed just cap it off and tune it I know this because I put a barometric pressure sensor that told the EGR to stay closed and it got stuck half open and I dissected the EGR and found that the gears were all stripped out where the motor was for opening and closing the valve no BS and this was on a semi truck same s*** is on all the pickup trucks except for my 7.3 😎

Had a '21 duramax denali that left us stranded on a family road trip bc. of emission system, 1 year old truck. 1 year later, it had to have its particulate filter replaced under warranty. Traded in for a '23 gas denali... no more problems! And it's fast.

$1000 delete or $4000 in power upgrades which will decrease the life of your 7.3? I vote 6.7 with a delete. Ya know, you can get a gasser 7.3 with more horsepower and towing capacity than your old 7.3 diesel 😉
