    This is really motivating. I am taking baby steps like eating brown instead of white rice. And trying my best to avoid sugary foods.

    I am thinking of ditching my fitbit, my weight loss apps, and just focusing on action rather than planning and tracking.
    I know how to eat healthy, and I do very well with breakfast and lunch. I just need to focus on 6-9 pm. and do the positive things that I know make me succeed!
    Great tips! Thanks!

    I really appreciate your approach, your kindness and how straightforward you are. Your advice is easy to follow. Also, your videos and graphics are lovely. I am going to start adding some simple tips from you in I've picked up in your videos like adding in lemon water, fermented food and trying a new fun recipe. Thank you!

    Something to add to the food journal idea, you can also create an Instagram account and use that as your food journal. Then you can take a picture of your plate so you can see your portion sizes and even show them to your nutritionist/dietician (if you have one). Sometimes having that visual makes it that much more real :)

Great Video! (my english isnt good enough to write it down)

    Do you know the benefits of fasting for muslims in the month of Ramadan?
    I will appreciate it if you make a video for that.
    Big thanks

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hashim Jamal Fasting can be beneficial for some people as long as when it is time to eat (after dusk) you don't binge eat. That is the challenge for many people who fast because your appetite hormones can get out of control. If you have blood sugar issues, you're pregnant, have diabetes, extreme stress or a specific health issues then it's not a good idea to fast. Also, many young women will use "fasting" an excuse to mask an eating disorder. However, if it's for religious reasons like yourself, then that's a different story. :) Hope that helps!

    Want to say I love your videos. I hear you speak of a food journal, do you have a video that deals with that?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Johnny Salter Thanks so much! I don't have a video but basically you just track everything you eat for a period of time (maybe a week or longer). This will help you become more aware of what you are putting in your mouth. It's a great way to realize what you're doing right and where you could improve a bit :) I hope that helps!

    Love this video - wonderful tips definitely. I like the idea of food journaling as a way of just monitoring how my food intake is and how I'm feeling versus counting what I'm eating and how much. That's the version of food journaling I never liked and was so stress and guilt-producing for me that I would just give up. On another note, I'm a teacher and this is the first summer I haven't been taking classes. I don't have children, and my husband and friends all work full time jobs during the day. I'm spending a ton of time just sitting on the couch right now and not moving around. I'm not naturally active anyway, but I'm moving even less now without the school year to keep me busy. Any suggestions for things to do during the day that aren't formal exercise per se but would get me off the couch and aren't awkward to do alone??

      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      rachelmerkle Glad you enjoyed my vid Rachel! I would suggest you go out for a powerwalk in nature every single day. Being in nature (surrounded by trees and any vegetation really) stimulates areas in the brain associated with happiness, love, empathy etc. So being outside is a HUGE mood boost which will make you feel happy and more motivated to get up and get out there every day. Yoga is also a great way to get your body moving and there are many classes during the day. The yoga community is very welcoming so you will probably find you connect with many people who have different schedules and perhaps meet some new people. And lastly, volunteer somewhere -- could be a summer camp, the YMCA, a food bank -- the possibilities are endless. You'll be moving your body and feeling so great about making a positive contribution to other people's lives. Hope that helps and you feel better soon!

    Thanks for the tips Joy! Besides your recipes/books, what books, apps, or Pinterest pages do you enjoy for recipe ideas?

    • @joyoushealth
      @joyoushealth  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      makeuplvr12 I get most of my food inspiration from travel and going to local farmer's markets and great restaurants in Toronto. Many of my friends are really into food so I get great ideas from them too! Definitely my fave place to get inspiration is to go a farmers market and see what is in season, talk to farmers and enjoy a little down-time. :)

    Great tips Joy, you've really inspired me. Ditching the guilt really resonates with me, I go off track for one meal or snack and let it ruin my week. Time to make a change and stay taking care of myself.

      You're not alone, many women tell me the same thing. When I finally realized there was nothing to feel guilty about and instead enjoy every indulgence to the fullest I found it was way easier to stay on track and I choose my treats wisely. Hope that helps!
