Haha no chemical burns here. I made sure to wipe between layers. The gloves in the box were so big on me and were making the application so messy! I invested in professional gloves and now I mention them in every video 🤣

I think when people wear their hair in loose curls, they can pull off most crappy color scenarios. The curls/waves break up the crooked lines in the coloring.
And to a degree it helps with imperfect haircuts too. I have curly hair and absolutely hacked at it a few times to give myself some more layering, it always looked fine thanks to the curls 😂

As someone who started out using box bleach and now just buys bulk bleach powder and developer from the beauty supply store, I think people who are new to hair colouring, especially bleaching, it can be reassuring to use box dye. Everything is measured out for you, plus an instruction leaflet. Hair bleaching can be intimidating, especially with the number of products available in pro stores, that’s just my experience and might be why people tend to gravitate towards using box bleach. 🤷♀️

exactly! i used those revlon highlight kits during the beginning of the pandemic and it was better for me that it was pre measured and came with strict and exact instructions. But to be fair Deanna does good highlights and i had success following her tutorials (except the fail one lol)

Yeah I was thinking the same, she should have just used a darker toner.. or at least a lighter semi color. The color she chose does look good on her, but that was a lot of work for nothing. Hopefully when that color fades the highlights will peek through a little.
Ohhh back in the day I would color my hair and mess it up CONSTANTLY. So everytime I messed up my hair, my parents would take a picture of me crying. They figured I would be less likely to try it ever again.. it never stopped me😂
I'm pretty sure my stylist use one of those combs. I don't think it's embarrassing. She did an amazing job on my hair & saved both of us time on an already long-ass process. Her services were affordable too so I'll continue to go back to her~ No harm in using tools that make your job easier when it doesn't negatively affect your work and skills!
First girl looks way good with brown, you might be obsessed with blonde but she looks better with that brown color and for $2 she hit the lotto. Cheap and actually turned out to work really good, the color looked even and just straight brown looks the best against her skin tone.
Yes, Pixies are tricky. I've had pixie hair for long time, i have a lot of hair, thick, straight and three whorls (or swirls??)and top of my head . I only got a good pixie cut once in my life and sadly that hairdresser retired 😭 No one seems to know how to layer my hair so it won't look like I'm wearing a helmet 😕
One time when i was doing a split dye i bleached one side and i did use gloves BUT i somehow managed to miss a tiny spot of bleach on the top of my head and it was on my scalp for hours till i scratched that spot and saw bleach and blood on my fingers😐 chemical burned the hell outta that spot and took awhile to fully heal, so always triple check everything is fully washed out lol 💀

After years of bleaching my own hair as a teen, I will only get colour at the salon. I can only afford it once or twice a year but a grown out balayage will always look better than a badly done one

My hairdresser is a balayage queen and I’m so glad I found her and have never resorted to trying to do it on myself cause that would not go well lol also I’d much rather pay someone who’s been trained than save a couple bucks
I've paid a lot of money to hairdressers over the years that has resulted in disasters. It's harder to find a good hairdresser than it is to find a good mechanic. There needs to be higher qualification requirements (in Australia at least).
I’ve balayage my hair a couple of times now, and thanks to Brad and remembering how my hair stylist used to do my hair (she had to get a totally different job because of the pandemic), it actually came out pretty good. Has it been perfect? No. Not at all. But it’s passable, and since I’ve been dressing more grunge lately, it all works. Plus, when I have messed up, I’ve been able to fix it! If it wasn’t for Brad, idk what my hair would look like rn. I’d probably have inky hair because I’d have to back to box dye.
As much as I adore Brad and these videos, it gets so frustrating watching people put so little care into their hair. I understand it’s their hair not mine, but I can’t wrap my mind around the fact we have so much knowledge available to us and people continue to use bleach so haphazardly. And continuing to use box dye when you can spend equal or less money at Sally’s on much better dyes. Even if you don’t dive super deep into hair color theory, techniques, ect, that’s fine, but we clearly at least watch brads videos. He has provided so much information to us and it’s painful watching yt videos or TikTok’s with Brad tagged in them, and literally every step is on the ‘don’t do unless you want fucked up hair’ list. I don’t think everyone needs to go to a salon, but I think it’s so pointless to waste the time, money, and product and cause long term damage to your hair when we have no much opportunity and free information to educate ourselves. Had to get that off my chest, rant over.
Totally get what you’re saying and I mostly agree. Sometimes though, it’s just fun to do something crazy and impulsive to hair. Especially if you know you wouldn’t be heartbroken if it gets really messed up lol. I’ve impulsively experimented with my hair before because I did not care at all if I had to shave my head haha.

Usually, the products these people use are tested on animals, and it just sucks that they had to endure that for some of these people to go and get their hair fixed at a salon/ buy more of said products to try to cover their mistakes anyway.

I told myself I would color my hair when my daughter turns 2. She's 1 and idk if I can wait that long. When I do I will film and and be sure to follow all of Brad's tips.
Ok so after watching this video and considering Brad has mentioned in the past that bleaching curly hair could be a recipe for disaster, I may not color my full head. Maybe just an underneath and side color...idk yet. My hair is really black and almost almost all Virgin so maybe a full dye won't kill me.
Haha, the best balayage I ever did on myself, I did with a toothbrush (work vertically, not horiz) & bare hands. I didn't realize the white spots were so serious... Never did it again, but never got such amazing results again either. Btw, I have very coarse, expansive, gravity defying, frizzy hair, so I can home balayage (& cut lol!) with poor skills because my foofy texture & ash color hides a multitude of errors. Do not try on straight or fine hair, and hair with more distinctive color also shows errors more. "Bad" hair FTW!!!
I honestly have done several videos with the comb and have gotten amazing results!! I’ve been felling like my technique has become repetitive so I might try the toothbrush next time! Sounds so fun!! I just wipe the bleach off between each application and no white spots or burns! But I have invested in professional gloves from amazon and they’re really worth it! i successfully did my own balayage on a solid red base and added copper highlights by decoloring parts of it. it looked amazing and not patchy at all. but also i have thick wavy hair and basically get away with any monstrosity i do to my hair.

I used that highlight Contraption comb a year ago turned out really well. I did really thin tiny highlights but let me tell you, it probably took me a few hours because I just did a little bit of hair at a time and had to keep washing it out cuz I was too scared to leave it in too long. it ended up really nice though. And that comb works really well and another company actually sell a really nice professional version of that comb
I had to shave my head because of a balayage, my hair kinda fell out over the week. A pile of hair like every 2 hours, so now I have a pixie cut and I'm gonna dye it bright red. ❤️ PS: Love you Brad

After so I bleached it then bought and used the X mondo hair colors, and let me tell you my hair looks insane!!! I love it so much the colors are so pigmented ( I dyed my hair rainbow) I feel so much more confident and it just feels so good to get all of my thick curly hair off my head!!! First off, the girl with naturally curly hair, should have silk pressed her hair so it was straight. Then did the balayage color. It would have been so much easier.
Silk press and flat ironing is not the same thing and that would not be a good idea because it would look different when she wears it natural. If she wears her hair natural most of the time she should color it while natural
I'm a hairdresser, I had to do my first balayage a couple years ago and you know how it is, fake it till you make it, pretended I was a boss at it and you know what? It came out good. She wanted like a maroon red so I didn't have to lighten crazy but my friend is on the spectrum so she's super sensitive to touch and I gotta be so careful with her. She's a trooper though even when it bothers her. It was fun, haven't done one since. PS I never use gloves for highlights or color I have to foil because I can't feel it,... Love having stained hands tho haha sarcasm

Did 3 peoples hair no gloves. Somehow my burns weren’t too bad, but they were UNDER THE NAILS, and burned for like 3 days straight.

When I was still in school the ombré look was in. I did it myself at home and it looked awful! I totally agree with you. My current copper balayage is grown out but it looks way better than whatever I did to my hair as a teen

My hairdresser is a balayage queen and I’m so glad I found her and have never resorted to trying to do it on myself cause that would not go well lol also I’d much rather pay someone who’s been trained than save a couple bucks
I've paid a lot of money to hairdressers over the years that has resulted in disasters. It's harder to find a good hairdresser than it is to find a good mechanic. There needs to be higher qualification requirements (in Australia at least).

I’ve balayage my hair a couple of times now, and thanks to Brad and remembering how my hair stylist used to do my hair (she had to get a totally different job because of the pandemic), it actually came out pretty good. Has it been perfect? No. Not at all. But it’s passable, and since I’ve been dressing more grunge lately, it all works. Plus, when I have messed up, I’ve been able to fix it! If it wasn’t for Brad, idk what my hair would look like rn. I’d probably have inky hair because I’d have to back to box dye.

As much as I adore Brad and these videos, it gets so frustrating watching people put so little care into their hair. I understand it’s their hair not mine, but I can’t wrap my mind around the fact we have so much knowledge available to us and people continue to use bleach so haphazardly. And continuing to use box dye when you can spend equal or less money at Sally’s on much better dyes. Even if you don’t dive super deep into hair color theory, techniques, ect, that’s fine, but we clearly at least watch brads videos. He has provided so much information to us and it’s painful watching yt videos or TikTok’s with Brad tagged in them, and literally every step is on the ‘don’t do unless you want fucked up hair’ list. I don’t think everyone needs to go to a salon, but I think it’s so pointless to waste the time, money, and product and cause long term damage to your hair when we have no much opportunity and free information to educate ourselves. Had to get that off my chest, rant over.

Usually, the products these people use are tested on animals, and it just sucks that they had to endure that for some of these people to go and get their hair fixed at a salon/ buy more of said products to try to cover their mistakes anyway.

I told myself I would color my hair when my daughter turns 2. She's 1 and idk if I can wait that long. When I do I will film and and be sure to follow all of Brad's tips.
Ok so after watching this video and considering Brad has mentioned in the past that bleaching curly hair could be a recipe for disaster, I may not color my full head. Maybe just an underneath and side color...idk yet. My hair is really black and almost almost all Virgin so maybe a full dye won't kill me.

Haha, the best balayage I ever did on myself, I did with a toothbrush (work vertically, not horiz) & bare hands. I didn't realize the white spots were so serious... Never did it again, but never got such amazing results again either. Btw, I have very coarse, expansive, gravity defying, frizzy hair, so I can home balayage (& cut lol!) with poor skills because my foofy texture & ash color hides a multitude of errors. Do not try on straight or fine hair, and hair with more distinctive color also shows errors more. "Bad" hair FTW!!!
I honestly have done several videos with the comb and have gotten amazing results!! I’ve been felling like my technique has become repetitive so I might try the toothbrush next time! Sounds so fun!! I just wipe the bleach off between each application and no white spots or burns! But I have invested in professional gloves from amazon and they’re really worth it! The gloves in the box were soooo messy at the beginning of this video I HAD to take them off! 🤣

i successfully did my own balayage on a solid red base and added copper highlights by decoloring parts of it. it looked amazing and not patchy at all. but also i have thick wavy hair and basically get away with any monstrosity i do to my hair.

I used that highlight Contraption comb a year ago turned out really well. I did really thin tiny highlights but let me tell you, it probably took me a few hours because I just did a little bit of hair at a time and had to keep washing it out cuz I was too scared to leave it in too long. it ended up really nice though. And that comb works really well and another company actually sell a really nice professional version of that comb

After so I bleached it then bought and used the X mondo hair colors, and let me tell you my hair looks insane!!! I love it so much the colors are so pigmented ( I dyed my hair rainbow)

First off, the girl with naturally curly hair, should have silk pressed her hair so it was straight. Then did the balayage color. It would have been so much easier.
Silk press and flat ironing is not the same thing and that would not be a good idea because it would look different when she wears it natural. If she wears her hair natural most of the time she should color it while natural

I'm a hairdresser, I had to do my first balayage a couple years ago and you know how it is, fake it till you make it, pretended I was a boss at it and you know what? It came out good. She wanted like a maroon red so I didn't have to lighten crazy but my friend is on the spectrum so she's super sensitive to touch and I gotta be so careful with her. She's a trooper though even when it bothers her. It was fun, haven't done one since. PS I never use gloves for highlights or color I have to foil because I can't feel it,... Love having stained hands tho haha sarcasm
My moms coworker got a balayage but the hairdresser effed up so because she knew my mom used to be a hairdresser my mom fixed it.
