As a later in life virgin, I thought sexualizing myself in appearance would get me a boyfriend faster, it was the most depressing years of my life, the real me lives the life of a nun. Because society is so sexualized, I felt like people would make fun of me for being prudish, I only ever had a sip of alcohol and I never went clubbing in my life. Growing up as a younger millennial, my peers were obsessed with clubbing and drinking ever weekend, where I felt like a loser if I did not dress slutty or drink. I think so much of society pressures make women think that dressing immodest is the only way to be attractive, now I dress cottage core or vintage and I honestly feel like my true self.

Loved this conversation. I began feeling really uncomfortable in a bikini when I would be at the beach with my dad or in-laws, particularly after having my daughter. It just felt so sexual and uncomfortable. But I felt like I just couldn’t wear a one piece because it was too frumpy and prude. I felt equally uncomfortable with all my shirts that showed cleavage. I finally gave up my bikinis last year and have felt SO much better. It’s hard to find some that aren’t overly sexualized, as well. Also switched to more modest clothing, too.

I now have 3 soon to be 4 daughters and God has definitely put it on my heart to teach them to dress modestly. I don’t think it does any favors to the cause of modesty to be frumpy. I'd like to share an experience. I made a comment on a video about how inappropriate it was for grown men/adults to be hardly dressed in front of children at pride parade. Someone actually responded and said that there was no problem and noted how women wear bikinis in front of children at the beach. Thankfully, I was able to respond and say that I do not and I don't allow my children around anyone dressed inappropriately (which is true/in so much as possible), but I could see how many Christians could not respond. Modesty is important and Biblical❤.

Wow. I was told I could never get pregnant on my own either. I just had a procedure to see how blocked my tubes were (and they were 100% blocked) and a few weeks later I was pregnant! I was waiting for my period too. I remember actually googling if that procedure can cause a period to be delayed.
I now have 3 earthside babies and 2 in heaven. I’m going to be 38 but have been feeling the call to have more children; every month I get my cycle I feel so sad over and over again. I think I’ve forgotten the fact that I was never “supposed” to get pregnant in the first place!

Immodesty ruined my life. It can alter your whole life on a downward trajectory. As a youth, I felt so insecure in swimsuits but still wore them to fit in. It only exasperated a crippling low self esteem. It also invited unhealthy attention and led to promiscuous behavior. The repercussions extend far beyond our imagining and can last a lifetime. Small indecencies lead to major mistakes.

    • @sofiabravo1994
      @sofiabravo1994 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

It truly is a never ending rabbit hole unless Jesus brings you out, i pursued immodesty because I was always rejected in school especially by boys in middle and high school, I was the baby looking one I wasn’t developed and even today almost 30 people still assume I’m well over a decade younger and my petite slender frame adds to it, I was so insecure about it because I was wanting attention from boys I wanted to be pretty even sexy to them but I was literally little string bean. So when I became of age I developed some and used my body in a promiscuous way to gain validation in all the wrong ways….I hate who I was before Jesus. I had no idea what love was nor true innocence…unfortunately recently I still fell in that trap because I wanted my body to keep my husband fixated on me. My body is meant for Jesus. Our worth is in Christ not a man even our husbands. It’s a sanctification but it’s freedom! Our beauty is inward and our outer while fleeting should still be for God. My soul is at peace with Him❤

Men's modesty is something we need people to talk about - it exists, and many men (myself included unfortunately in the past) pushed the envelope on modesty and tried to objectify themselves as well. Again thanks for the great content Lila!

  • @rebekahtyler7406

My husband has a good saying when it comes to women and modesty. If you are dressed immodestly, it will make good men who do not want to objectify you uncomfortable. If they want to keep clean thoughts about the women in their lives then that is just simply harder to do around women who wear almost no clothing. So those men will avoid you. The kind of men that will stay around you and feel comfortable around Basically naked women are typically the guys who want to look at naked women. Obviously there will be people who are exceptions to this role, but even I, as a woman can get distracted when another woman is showing too much skin, so I can’t imagine what it would be like for a man who is much more visually stimulated by that kind of stuff…

I think it's an *excellent* way to put it! Thank you for sharing that!
I personally don't like the rhetoric of putting excessive blame on women for enticing men - it's a common rhetoric in some circles and I find it quite annoying.

The problem is majority of self proclaimed feminists understand but deliberately misinterpreted the whole point by using woke words like " controlling" , " patriarchal oppression" , " what about shirtless men ? " Bs to the point men can't even have honest conversations
      Men's sexual stimulus is visual
The whole fashion industry know this fact. In order to build the fake empowerment bs they used feminism as a scapegoat from yrs. They did it for the sale of cigarettes even though according to medical science, smoking is more harmful for women's body in comparison of men's body 😂
Men don't want the women ( who they respects ) to be the part of others men's sexual imagination. It's not about control , it's about honour of the relationship
The deep cleavage feminism is nothing but fashion industry strategy

"Style is a way of saying who you are without having to speak." This comment validated a particular suffering I felt when I had my first baby, a high needs child, during covid-19 and was unable to shop for clothes that fit my post-pregnancy body. Because of family needs preventing shopping, my wardrobe continued to be inadequate for several years, consisting of hand-me-downs in the wrong colors, wrong sizes, wrong cuts. I felt embarrassed and uncomfortable on a daily basis. When I shared this suffering with my fellow Catholic women for some words of sympathy and compassion, I was told "it's not what's important." It is only now I am finally able to try and build a wardrobe where I can feel proud of presenting myself (and my new larger body) in those clothes. Thank you for validating and giving voice to that God-given feminine instinct to present oneself well to others.

I created my own combination of swimwear. I live in south Florida, so you need at least 3 suits. I bought tankini tops that are full cleavage coverage and separately bought swim skirts to mix and match with the tops. I feel so great at the beach or pool because I can bend, swim, float, dive, and not worry about anything falling off or flipping up. I notice some people are observing my swimwear as if perplexed that I'm that covered up in this Caribbean heat. 😂

I have been going through a lot of trauma lately and you’re helping me get through it. Also I think it’s beautiful how you treat disabled people like me (I’m autistic, I’m an ADHDer(someone with ADHD) , a dyslexic and have other learning disabilities, along with mental and physical health issues ). It made me so happy when you strongly disapproved of and were disgusted by what people said about autistic children and children with down syndrome. I know some autistic people would be mad at you for saying “person with autism “ instead of autistic, but really they’re just policing language and trying to control people. It is just what leftists do. They’re all about control . Personally, I don’t mind either one as long as you’re a kind person and you’re strongly advocating for disabled people! Identity first is just my favorite though , but you don’t have to use it for me though if you don’t want to :)

Modesty Matters! Agreed that Jessica is awesome! Lila this is one of my favorite episodes ever! I messed up in the chat writing "less is more" because, right before I wrote that, you showed Jessica Rey's beautiful speech about encouraging against the "less is more" philosophy regarding bikinis and I agree with her! I meant "less is more" for modesty metaphorically, not literally when it comes to modest swimwear! I'm sure many think that literally when it comes to me rambling! =)
I don't know if this might be helpful to think about regards to modesty but along with thinking about how literally "less is more" isn't helpful for modest dress and the notion of looking for love in all the wrong places, hope these are helpful!

Wow that story about your sweet children made me cry. God is so good ! ❤ I think that was a great point about if we are temples of the Holy Spirit, how should we approach modesty. I’ve often thought people are generally careful around priests let’s say. I don’t think most women would think it appropriate to wear a bikini in front of a priest. But why ? Or if our Blessed Mother appeared to us, would we feel modest wearing one. No we wouldn’t. Again, why? People are so careful to wear certain things in front of the Royal family, how much more should we be careful how we dress around others as well.

Eventually, pants and slacks won. Although you were free to wear dresses too. The women, that is.

As a teen in the early 2000s I would be one of the only ones on the beach not wearing a bikini. I’m so glad it’s easier to find modest swimwear now, I think mostly because people are more aware of protecting their skin from the sun, but I’ll take it!

It’s nice to see another Hollywood actress find their way back to God. I never thought Jessica Rey would be bold enough to go on Lila Rose’s podcast considering how pro-life and conservative she is. This is a joyous occurrence. As a nondenominational Christian, I support all born again’s walk with Christ, no matter the denomination. If the Power Rangers franchise would hire more actors and writers like her, it wouldn’t be a shadow of its former glory. I’ll always cherish what the show was but the woke LGBT abomination it is today needs to die.

As a man, may I just reaffirm that modesty is for us too.
I feel very strongly about this. This is why I do not go jogging without a shirt, for example. Not that I’m particularly worth looking at, but that I do not want to provide the opportunity for someone else to have an immodest glance. Gym culture needs serious reforming too-and I also mean this for men. The peacocking element is often very immodest, both in terms of hymn clothes, and heart posture.

Any bathing suit is immodest. Can you imagine the Virgin Mary appearing in a bathing suit? She needs to consecrate herself to Our Lady, she seems like a lovely person. Why is this seminarian going to parties like this? He tells people he doesn’t know that he’s a virgin, this is all very strange.

How do you think some religious sisters dress when they go the local swimming pool? (yes, some are permitted to, depends on the community and a superior... it's rare but sometimes happens). Some priests also may go swimming. Most people wouldn't even know, because they (both groups) typically would wear civil clothes to go the swimming pool, to avoid access interest. And no, they're not wearing 'burkinis'. (obviously, no bikini either, just a plain one piece, speaking for women).

    • @joane24
      @joane24 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

As for the seminarian, I can only imagine how that conversation may go: probably the girls have been bugging him if he had any girlfriends or something like that, to which he might have indirectly answer trying to shut down the conversation, after which the girls would loudly discuss among themselves how unusual it is to not have such kind of experience. As I said, only speculation, but most likely scenario of how it went.
Btw you might be scandalized what personal questions some people (secular people who are away from the church) may directly ask the priest or the seminarian (eg in the context of a street ministry outreach, or various others similar situations with people who are not used to the church culture or some would be even hostile towards it). I've seen that, so it doesn't surprise me that some people curiously and inappropriately inquire about such things. I've heard my share of such questions too.

Well, actually, there are bathing suits that are modest: they sell longer swim tops & skirts that go down to the knee made out of waterproofing fabric.
Let us pray for her then! so that she can continue to receive grace through the Blessed Lady from Jesus 💛 she is attempting to do a good thing, let’s pray that the she is continued to be guided by grace
As for the seminarian, it’s hard to say because we don’t have the full context and we didn’t get a chance to hear his side of the story. Sometimes, we find ourselves amongst people of the world, sometimes it’s unavoidable…but we have to remain being the light of Christ. Let us pray for seminarians that have to live in secular society 🙏

I swim regularly, in public city pools, in pools on a university campus, and at a private health club. I have been a member of a Master's swim organization. Many women wear bikinis while swimming. Many women wear bikinis at the pools at the condominium complex where I live. These are not just young women, but women over the age of 60. What could be wrong with that?
I am a man who wears a Speedo-style swim briefs while swimming, even though I am not in the best of physical shape and I have never been a competitive swimmer. However, I enjoy swimming and I live in a warm climate where most swimming pools are outdoors and it is practical to swim outdoors during most of the year.
Competitive swimming, or swimming for intense exercise, requires the wearing of minimal and form-fitting attire. Wearing a dress or heavy, baggy clothing is not practical, especially if one wants to maximize performance.

It is greatly offend to Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ if dress immodesty because it caused your brother, sister or you yourself to fall into mortal sin. Nor do you want to hurt your brother or sister or Lord God. You do not want your brother or sister in mortal sin nor do you want yourself in mortal sin, as mortal sin is our greatest enemy and ultimately the only thing capable of separating us from eternal life.
Immodesty in dress can lead to the loss of immortal souls, and if gravely offensive, is a mortal sin for the wearer and occasion of sin for the beholder of immodest fashions. Sins caused by immodest fashions send to hell, or at least make worthy of hell’s fire, the souls of many of those exposed to these fashions.
“I pray ... for them whom Thou hast given Me: because they are Thine ...Those whom Thou gavest Me have I kept: and none of them is lost ...” (Jn. 17:9,12).
In Fatima, modesty was very much stressed by the Blessed Virgin Mary because She also told us in the Fatima Message: “more souls go to hell for sins of the flesh than any other reason.”
Padre Pio refused time and again to absolve any woman, no matter how important she was, who did not wear her skirts at least 8 inches below the knee. He also insisted that they do not wear slacks. Yet this traditional guideline, due to ignorance, prejudice, enslavement to vanity or passion, has been combated so much in contemporary times.
The Magisterium of the Catholic Church issued statements on modesty in 1930, 1954 and 1957 but since then has kept silent because people no longer listen. God allows us to be punished by the silence of the Magisterium today for the sins of not obeying the Magisterium when it spoke up. This is similar to the way God responded to the hardness of the hearts of the people in the Old Testament. As punishment, God did not send prophets for four hundred years after the Jews had killed and rejected many of the prophets He had already sent.
A short number of years ago, even two Catholic bishops came down on the wrong side of this issue. In 1979 they felt compelled to persecute The Fatima Crusader for publishing this material (our leaflet now 30 years in circulation: LF005 The Marylike Standards for Modesty in Dress). One of these bishops, several years later and just before his death, seemed more disposed to hear the truth.
Thus we hope you will understand why today many priests do not want to talk about this subject. However Our Lady of Fatima compels us, for the salvation of souls, to explain the matter more fully.

Interesting interview, but I just can't get beyond that it was a Pope with authority that said, “A dress cannot be called decent which is cut deeper than two fingers breadth under the pit of the throat; which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows; and scarcely reaches a bit beyond the knees. Furthermore, dresses of transparent materials are improper.” (The Cardinal Vicar of Pope Pius XI). I believe Moral Theology says that the hands, feet, and face are the only areas to be seen by the public; the arms, legs, chest, and back are semi-public which is why I suppose Pope Pius XI put guidelines on those areas. The rest are "private" areas and are meant to stay that way. Situational ethics has no absolute moral standard, so that is a slippery slope and why we are in this pickle with modesty and people choosing to cover themselves or not.

I don't wear super revealing clothing, but at the same time I enjoy feeling sexy and wearing attractive clothing. Also my husband complains when I dress too frumpy. Why do I feel like when I hop into baggy clothes that something sort of dies inside of me? It seems like the idea of modesty is that I have to hide away because I can't be seen because I'm some sort of danger to weak men. Also, it seems like most men probably would even bother to look at me anyway since they can watch all the porn they want at a moment's notice, so what's the point?
Again, I don't dress in super revealing clothing, but I don't really understand why anyone would want to hide away either. Also for reference I'm 37, 118 lbs, 5'0" and I wear a 1 piece bathing suit with swim shorts. I often wear yoga pants or sundresses.
Lastly, when I dress up and put on some heels and do my makeup, I feel sexy and confident. When I troll around in loose, baggy clothes, I feel like a bum. It seems like most people's expectation of modesty means don't be sexy. I try to dress modestly, but overall I try to dress wisely, appropriately and that brings forward the greatest sense of dignity, and sometimes that means sexy.

Modest does not mean frumpy though, it doesn’t have to be that way, I dress modestly and ladies are always complementing my outfits, I don’t believe in hiding in a sack of potatoes kind of dress, I am blessed with a somewhat small waist even when I gain weight and my preference are fit and flare dresses, and I prefer to leave (sex)y outfits for the bedroom 🤷‍♀️

    • @gloriaa.2442
      @gloriaa.2442 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

The Oxford Dictionary defines "sexy" as "sexually attractive or exciting" when applied to others or "sexually aroused" when applied to yourself. Therefore, by definition, "sexy" is referring to sexual lust.
"Likewise, I want women to adorn themselves with proper clothing, modestly and discreetly, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly garments, but rather by means of good works, as is proper for women making a claim to godliness" (I Timothy 2:9-10).
a woman should not dress to arouse sexual desire in other people (only her husband and only in the privacy of their relationship). While it is true that some will lust regardless of how a person dresses, it isn't proper for a Christian to encourage lustful thoughts in other people.
      Quoted ^^
As a woman, we were made to be beautiful, thanks be to God. You can dress modestly without looking frumpy and will still be seen as beautiful. I’m not sure if “sexy” is the right word to describe how we should want to dress or the right way to dress. It’s difficult because you’re married, so I understand that you want to be pleasing to your husband but there is a time and place for that, so maybe bring that consideration to him. And continue to look into ideas for modest fashion; you can dress modestly and still look nice & neat. I would encourage you to pray some more about this. ask the Holy Spirit and ask the Blessed Mother and St Joseph to guide you & your husband on this topic too 🙏
