    Re The Guernsey weigh the peanut butter machine is a very good idea but the Manager should be aware of keeping the nozzle clean at all times , being summer you cannot rule out the flies in the are it would only take 1 or 2 flies to contaminate peanut butter what's left on the nozzle and then a customer could become ill. Not wanted at this time. Perhaps Ross next time you are there you could mention it to the Manager . Otherwise great video x

    amazing changes. In the mid seventies it was all hustle and bustle with fruit and veg stalls etc. If my memory serves me well there was a camping store adjacent to entrance. My sister, myself and two friends went in there to buy everything for camping - tents, sleeping bags, cooking utensils, lantern ++. then off we went to a camp site in Torteval, then moved to St Sampsons.I think the campsite was call L'etoile or something similar. Those were incredibly happy times. We had not long left school and moved over to work the summer season. the hill up from the square - is it called Fountain Hill. Is the Little Threatre nearby. thank you for sharing. It really is a trip down memory lane.

    Hey Ross
    Still following your vlogs but not a lot can be said about them because you cover everything so thoroughly and perfect in every detail, but this one about the market rekindles some great memories,
    I understand that things have to move on but my memories of the market are stilled in my mind and remembering what it was like with all the different stalls all bantering for business trying to sell the same types of products be it fruit and veg, meats, fish but they were all busy Ross because they all had there regular customers who would be loyal and on a first name basis, those were the days when you could smell the produce as you walked through the halls, and at Christmas was amazing with the smell of freshly cut trees ,crabs and lobsters cooking but like I said things have to move forward in life and as sad as it is I understand.
    Great vlog Ross how about one to saints bay harbour and also the kiosk

    Very cool Ross, thanks!So nice to look around the ol Market. Also.. Wondering if you could possibly do a cafe hop of [specialty] coffee shops i.e. not ‘Lavazza cafes’ but real up and coming specialty coffee shops like Taylor’s etc? Wondering what the real Coffee Scene is like there (compared to Cargo, and Dandy in Ja-hersee.)

    Hi Ross,
    Love your footage of Les Halles. In Leicester, we have New Market Place, though larger in area has the same feeling, also had the same smell, the new fish market is on the perimeter. Feel emotional every time I walk across it. The one in Leicester is used for Christmas markets and for film shows in better times. A blank wall has been built for that purpose, hardly been used, so far.
    Our square is on the site of a particularly ugly seventies red brick monolith which housed the fish and meat markets plus other goods. Site looks much better without it. Present arrangements much better.
    Will return when we can, can't wait!!

    When we first went to Guernsey back in the early 80's there was also an outdoors market with stalls there. I remember my wife buying a Guernsey and I brought a book from a stall about the occupation and had it signed by the author. Annoyingly I can't find the book but think it was One man's war by Frank Stroobant.

    • @livinginguernsey
      @livinginguernsey  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, yes that book rings a bell. They still have stalls out side in the market square on certain occasions which is really nice to see.

    Good to see the market finished and I would love to spend time in the Weigh In place...probably too much time! I recall going into the Co op for a few things when I visited but can't remember a Post Office. A good video all round and especially for anyone visiting or thinking of self catering for their stay on Guernsey, always handy to know of places such as the weigh in as you can buy smaller amounts of items you might want for your stay.

    I remember well the old market, that was really unique! Then when they changed it there was only the coop and some shops - that was kind of boring, we couldn't really see a sense in that change. But now with those bars etc it looks much more like the "old one" , that's better! Will visit for sure - well, as soon as they let us.....!
