I appreciate that you're even asking about this. I'll be totally honest, I do not care about DS1911s. At all. I've shot them, going from various STI guns all the way up to a Cabot arms custom piece. They do nothing for me, and I believe while heartedly that the majority of the interest has been driven by the "more expensive gear=better shooter" crowd. They do have some advantages and some advanced shooters are able to exploit those, but for 95% of people it's a perceived prestige thing. For me personally, I've never felt a need for one. That tricked out Cabot gun was impressive as a piece of mechanical art, but I personally had better results with a Shadow 2 at less than half the cost. Again, I'm sure some people do actually gain something from them, and in practiced hands they're impressive, but they're not for me. And I dearly wish that we as a wider "community" could recognize that you can't buy skill. Best pistol shooter I have ever met ran STI guns and was terrifyingly good. And he was 95% as good with a stock Glock 17.
Your absolutely correct on those obnoxious videos. After my husband saw your review on the Bul Armory 2311 pistols he purchased the SAS II TAC. It's probably the best 2311 pistol available. The magazines are proprietary, offering extreme reliability and better stock capacity. He's unable to carry it as his primary sidearm while working but is allowed to carry it as a secondary. Without your knowledge he likely would have purchased the popular brand made in the USA. I've only shot it once and like the double stack 2311 style pistol.its a nice option for those who are looking for a 9mm double stack 1911 style pistol. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge. Your knowledge has saved people from making bad purchases on firearms. Not only financially but safety as well. Magazines that fail are a serious safety issue. Thanks for keeping your TH-cam channel classy. We will not watch those repulsive firearms videos you referenced. Have a fantastic weekend 😄 🙏
Thanks for the video. Really interested in the Bul offerings, the DWX ( big fan of the CZ grip) and if it catches on and gets fully supported, and high end pieces (Atlas, Venom, Rafferty etc that won't be of interest to you or the channel). Otherwise very interested in CZ and Beretta recently with interest in Canik and Walther, but mainly hammer pistols like the updated Grand Power or even the Polish FB with a hammer. Be well fine sir.
I probably one of the few that care nuthin about the double stack 1911’s I started carrying Ruger P Series in the mid 80’s through the 90’s before that snubbie 38’s In 2001 … I went to a LGS / Auto repair… and was looking at a Mosin Nagant 1891 ( not a 91/30) And as I was counting out my $75 .. I spied a very unique pistol.. polymer framed .. I asked to see it … no hammer.. but a grip safety? It was a new HS-2000 .. 9mm double stack … I asked how much… the clerk ( also mechanic) as he was wiping grease off his hands .. said $250 Out the door … I talked him down to $300 for both the 1891 & HS-2000 out the door … he answered with a cuss word .. and a yes … …. The HS-2000 eventually became the XD-9 and I have been a striker fire guy ever since …
I was very interested in the Tisas DS1911s that came out when i heard about them but by time they had actually hit the market I had already used all my budget buying a Huxworx 7.62 TI and a Spanish 1916 short Mauser. I am still vaguely interested because I do shoot standard 1911s very well but at the same time they arn't mechanically interesting enough for me at this point in time for what I am collecting. I think I am more interested in rotating barrels and DA/SA currently for anything I am going to pick up.
Double finger point intro would be perfect 🤪 Love double stack 1911s but price and weight keep me from carrying one. I keep going back to the Glock 48 or ultra light 38.
I recently received a Bul EDC 4.25 from the raffle at Guncon24. I've ran around 500 rds of RN and another 80 of mixed defense HPs. Not one issue, almost boring accuracy. I tasted the fruit and I like it. The Bul UL or Staccato CS is my next purchase to replace my Sig Macro as EDC, I'll forel sure carry the EDC when the situation allows.
The 2011/1911 DS are here to stay. I would like to see some affordable but reliable models, but so far I had a bad experience with the Prodigy and I am afraid to try the other “budget friendly” such as Apollo 11, Girsan etc. IMO if you want a reliable DS 1911 you need to spend between the $1,800-$2,800 so now your options are Platypus $1,800 (24 weeks waiting time, Glock magazine?), Staccato ($2,500 plus the optic plate), Bul Armory $2,100(a unicorn and comes with 1 year warranty only) and the 2311 $2,000+(with Sig magazines?/not nice looking imo). So for now I’ll stick with my XMacro, PDPs, H&Ks, and Sigsuaers.
I have two DS 9MM 1911-style pistols now, the LFA Apollo 11 and the Stealth Arms Platypus. I have another Platypus on order and my Bul Armory EDC should get here Tuesday. I love the 1911 platform and I'm very pleased with the DS experience so far. I also have a Tisas PX-9 and a Canik Rival SFx which have equivalent or greater capacity and while I really like them I prefer shooting the DS 1911s. I just acquired a Bul Armory Axe C Cleaver and if I want I can stick any GLock 19 / 17 stick mag in it and have up to 33 rounds - it just looks ridiculous 😎 . I think the "2011" or DS 1911 is here to stay, one of the few children of competitive shooting I find pleasing. The current fad of ported / compensated barrels works well with the 1911 platform and is now in full swing. I suspect it will peak in about another year and will then begin to fade from prominence. I think the DS 1911 platform has greater staying power. I hope I am still here in 10 years to see if I am right.
I've never owed a 2011, but I was wondering if you watched the recent GARAND THUMB video where he drop-tested a wide variety of handguns and all of them passed (even the notorious Sig P320) except for the 1911 and the 2011. If they were dropped barrel first onto the concrete "test pad" and the safety was off... they would fire the blank. The hammer never dropped and I'm wondering if, to achieve the wonderfully light triggers that 1911/2011 are known for, the firing pin spring is too light to keep the inertia of the pin (during a barrel first drop) to keep it from striking the primer.
Got tired waiting to be able to buy a Bul SAS II, ended up getting a Staccato C2. I love it, is my winter carrying, I will wait and see if I can purchase A Bul 3.1/4 when become available for the summer (using a pocket gun right now).
@reloco166 I have some tips in the lated BUL Armory articles on how to get your hands on one. Shipments sell out quickly despite arriving every couple weeks.
Rented a staccato at my local range and liked it, BUT I immediately recognized there were several things I didn’t like and would need to spend extra money to change. I also a lot of physical labor and my trusty ol Walther single stack never “gets in the way” if that makes sense. 🤷🏽
Me thinks it'll fall off soon. There'll be more upgrade stuff but a lot will get weary of the weight. Any next thing that'll get attention will brush the trend to the fringes.
Id rather have a nice scope, start a modern bolt gun build, get a gucci ar upper for how much a 2011 costs. Its a pistol, and a $300 used glock 23 with 180gr looks pretty good based on the 45acp tests youve been doing. Also USPSA has been having a lot of drama and weirdness hapoening so i just dont focus on shooting pistols as much anymore. Juice for squeeze, theres other things the $ could go to i would shoot more often. Maybe a nice reloading upgrade for the 300 magnum family something I should build. Fancy new science components makes 2mile elr seem as quaint as ipsc steel at 800yd with an M118lr clone. Just so much you could buy for the $.
I have 5 high capacity 1911/2011 guns. I don't currently carry one for to health issues. But I would if I could. Some days even a 642 Airweight gives me grief. Most days I EDC a 365xl, 12+1 and a extra 15 on a pocket clip neomag. I didn't think high capacity 1911's will ever beat polymer guns for carry. Just the cost alone is a deterrent to a lot of people. I can buy 2 Blue Label Glock 19's for even the cheapest DS 1911. So here's mine and what I like, don't like about them. 1. EAA Girsan Witness 2311. I hate it, it's rough, over aggressive grips and runs like it's half finished. Not really even accurate. Got it smoothed out by running 50 rounds thru it with some stuff I won't mention. I still hate shooting it, even with gloves on. 2. Rock Island Tac Ultra, like shooting it because it's heavy. Smooth and accurate. It's a solid preformer. Definitely the heaviest of my 5. 3. 4.25" Springfield Prodigy, over of the early ones, under 2k serial number. Was able to work thru some issues in the first 500 rounds, now it's a solid gun that runs reliable. Accurate and like shooting it. 4. Dan Wesson DWX Compact, great gun and shoots awesome for the cost. No grip safety, Love that it takes The same mags as my SP-01 Tactical with different baseplate. Accurate and reliable. Would make a great duty/carry gun. 5. 4.25" Wilson Combat EDC X9 Experior. Omg this is a sweet gun to shoot, no grip safety and runs beautiful. Accurate and reliable. I like the grip better than the SFX/SFT guns. Had replaced my single stack 1911 (Sig Sauer C3, I bought in 2009) as my EDC until increased health issues made it painful. Hope this want to long and what your looking for.
I like seeing DS 1911 content but they're too expensive for me and my old SS 1911 scratches that 1911 itch and my P365, PDP, P10F all scratch that DS/Stack-and-a-half itch for me.
I'm really not a 1911 guy at all. I have 1 really just to have it. I've held and shot the 2011's. Honestly I'm glad I'm not into them because I'd be permanently broke for sure
I have zero interest in double stack 1911's. I have some very nice traditional 1911's, but they are safe queens and range toys. My guns that are employed for duty are DA/SA.
It's a non existent category to me. That width and overall size? I'm better served by a classic Sig DA/SA for carry. But really, after the 365 Macro with 17rd. count or a Hellcat Pro, everything else is old tech, outdated for carry.
While that may have once been true, I've tested enough examples to say that it no longer applies. The worst I've seen is some magazine sensitivity and/or not all magazines are good.

have not went down the DS 1911 road. Not likely to do so. More intrigued by LTT HK P30s and Beretta PX4 storm GSD.

I just picked up my BUL Armory EDC 4.25”. The fit and finish is amazing. It’s replaced my .45 1911 as my EDC.

@edwardbohlman3209 yes, he could have avoided that dramatic damage by simply checking if they were 70s series or 80s series.

I know, I been talking to Kevin, I'm a client already purchased a 1911 Government from them, I didn't see any small one for sale in last 4 months.
@@reloco166 The SAS II UL is being redone for 2024, so it's likely that they stopped production of the older models to make the new ones.

We’re not even at peak double stack yet I’ve totally moved over but I’ve kept my two favorite strikers
Nice photo for thumb nail.
