This would be a perfect video to show why the metric system makes it so much easier.
I used these slides in a couple of bathroom vanities I recently built. I agree they take some figuring to get started, but once I had grasped what was going on, the building of the drawers and the installation went fine. I love the adjustability and the smooth operation of the slides. Definitely worth the premium price. Fortuanately a cabinet builder friend of mine had the Blum jigs for the drilling, but those Rockler jigs look way better to me. Great video.
Literally working on a video today on shop drawers that are just on wooden runners. It's like I've been working on a Civic and you drop video on your Tesla. Love these things!
That little jig is handy. We always did everything by eye/hand. These are my favorite drawer hardware.

I’m so happy I came across this video. We had a snafu with our kitchen cabinets order and I know have to build a couple of drawers. I want them to be pretty similar to the look of the rest and they have under mount slides. I was thinking of using pocket holes and the same thickness for the material. It’s great to see exactly what I want to do has already been successfully accomplished.

I love how the manufacturer makes the slides metric offsets (20mm), but they convert it to imperial which makes it a really odd number :)

Thanks for the great video. Does the soft close have some pulling force? Wondering if I can add a flush mount marine latch on my drawers. Don't want to do these slides if it prevents it from closing and latching.

Hey Johnny, what size self centering bit did you use when mounting the slide to the cabinet? Can’t seem to find the screw size anywhere.
Top Tip: Blum will send you a pretty nice ‘Catalogue and technical manual’ that has all the measurements in handy little diagrams, in one of the nicest catalogues I’ve ever seen. (At least in 🇬🇧)
I just bought the 12” Blum tandem plus blumotion drawer slides and they actually measure 12.5” in length! Did you also have to account for the additional half an inch?
Did you do any kind of finish coating for the plywood part of the drawer? I'm building some drawers myself, and am looking for a good finish, so they don't get stained or dirty and scuffed.

That's one fine looking cabinet!! I use the blum drawer slides, use them a lot too. 1 question though, is the grain direction on the big panel on purpose? I would have kept them al in line. 😅 It still looks great though! Don't get me wrong. 😉
Hey man! Great job on those drawers! (The entire bar really!) just a quick tip for maybe a bit easier way to make those drawers. You only really need to cut the groves for the bottom in the sides, and then cut the front and back to the same height as the top of the groove. That way you can just nail / screw the bottom in the front and back. That saves you the notches. And it allows you to screw those orange clips down into the front piece instead of at an angle. (And you don't need the jig) I've made quite a few of these over the years, and I've got a video where I build them for my workbench in my shop ( part 2) it might make more sense that way :P anyways, this turned out great! Hope this saves you a bit of time for the next one ;)

I worked in a cabinet shop for a while, when I was there we did it cheap and fast, the drawer bottoms were 3/4 inch material and the Blum slides attached to them which meant the sides of the drawers were not structural so we just brad nailed those no dados, it takes probably 2 minute to assemble a drawer that way 36 Brad's and four screws and two holes. I haven't seen anyone do it that way on TH-cam.

This was really helpful. What might have been even more helpful is if you had provided information on the Blum slide install when building inset drawers with a 1x2 face frame. I eventually figured it out but the 1 5/8" (13/16" x2) offset was not necessary and essentially gave me the wrong width on the drawers forcing a rebuild. Rockler does provide inset mounting brackets that get you where you want to be with the drawer before adding the drawer front that sits flush inside the face frame. It's on me but maybe try a vid doing that style construction? There isn't a whole lot out there regarding that style build and your tutorials are solid.

When I make drawer boxes I just make a simple box (no inset) with bottom nailed and glued to drawer frame. I have never looked at a Blum undermount slide, is the ½" inset of the bottom required for mounting the slides or just to hide them? If required I guess I could add ½ strips to the sides of my simple boxes as there would be no need for inset on front or rear.
Wondering why the notch in the fronts were a problem when you used false fronts anyway. Nice build!
Because that is where the front mechanism is attached to.
Good build. A lot of builders on TH-cam show pocket screws for putting boxes together but nailing is faster and easier.

It was worth watching to see Rockler's jig versus Blum's I have seen in a few other videos . Rockler's looks better. One question, your drawer box used butt joint and Kreg type screw connection ... I am finding low strength when I use this joint w/ plywood panels. I am wondering how your corners are holding up?

Bar is looking sweet! Are the notches in the back of the drawer panel necessary to A) prevent racking of the slides? B) support the drawer bottom in the middle? C) both?
Thanks! The notches really just provide clearance so the slides can sit flush against the drawer bottom.

the draw slides do look good but a bit on the pricey side. but i do like the soft close feature on draws and cabinet door especially with having kids
They are definitely pricey but worth it for nicer projects. Probably wouldn’t use them for shop projects.
Hi there! Excellent video, I’ve been following you for quite some time already and have learned a lot.
My only challenge with all most of your videos is that you label them as “Easy DIY for this”.... however you toolset is not really close to be real for regular DIYers :) maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to accomplish this build with the regular woodworking tools I have.
Keep doing what you’re doing, I really enjoy watching your creations.
Thanks! While I agree with you for some projects, this cabinetry could easily be accomplished with a relatively inexpensive job site table saw, a drill, and a few jigs. I built my miter saw station with those exact tools, actually. No need for a jointer or planer like some of my other projects.

How much clearance do you need underneath the drawer?
Isn't 13/16 the distance between the cabinet opening and the INSIDE of the drawer side? So for the drawer width would be "Opening" - (13/16 x2 ) + "thickness of drawer side" ? I'm trying to get this right before I order drawer boxes.

It depends on the drawer sizes you want. I went with one larger bottom drawer and three equally sized smaller drawers. I just divided the space inside the cabinet based on that and subtracted about an inch between each drawer.

I had cabinets custom made. The drawers don’t fully close. Does that mean the side rail needs to be moved back?
How do you calculate the height to install the slides at?
Wynand Andre Basson, just subtract 1” from the height of the drawer opening for your drawer box. Example, 5” opening for the drawer, subtract 1” from the opening height which will make the drawer side 4” tall. Hope that helps you.

I've seen Shaun Boyd's video that you referred to, and it is an excellent guide to installing these slides, however, your graphics really added a lot to help visually understand everything. Between your two videos I don't think I'd need to look at the directions. (Which is good because they look super complicated) Nice work!

I can easily build the extra cost into the sale of my projects and the professional look of a drawer that doesn't have its ugly hardware showing when you open it makes a huge difference to the client (or heck, makes yourself feel pride in knowing your work looks exceptionally well done).
Actually, you can get the Blum 563 undermount slides for much less than 35.00
I use them exclusively in my cabinets and only pay 20.00 for the slides and locking devices. I buy them from Wurth Lewis and Co.

I support a few resorts on the east coast and I realized the check in pods at my main resort has Blum hardware on every drawer and door. There’s 15 pods and there must be at least $500 worth of hardware in each.
I’m. Holding these same exact width and depth drawers. But I think your math is ring for the fronts. The fronts need to be 19 7/8 because of the half inch plywood on each side. That puts the inside of the sides at 13/16’s.
How can you guys still work in inches?! Millimetres is a no-brainer

Well do not watch videos from the US if it confuses you that much. Just ignore the numbers the steps it takes to mount the slides are the important part. Most likely your drawers will be a different size anyway.
So relieved to hear you say you screwed up nearly every piece. I do too, its the only way to learn

Hey, thanks for the great video. Question: when you go through the math for drawer box width, you first say/show your drawer box interior to be 22 1/2". You do the math, which gives you 20 7/8" and then you say THAT's the width of your drawer box. How can the exterior (or even interior) be 20 7/8" when you say the interior is 22 1/2"? Thanks so much!
Use the Blum drawer calculator to help with your calculations. www.hingmy.com/blumdrawers.php The calculations can change depending on your blum slide type and your joints (butt or dovetail). I find all these TH-cam Blum slides instructional videos always skim over or don't explain certain key details.

13/16" - What the fuck kind of measurement is that? This is just the best example of why metric just makes more sense. (I googled it to about 2.05mm) - EDIT: It seems a lot of people just paused at 00:45 or thereabouts for metric comments.
