  • Think we're ready to make the journey? Have a closer look at our 32' Frank Pelin Snowbird catamaran which was built in 1986 and requires some TLC.

    Is it me or is the camera stabilizing effect making anyone else motion sick?

    At first I thought it was a Wharram. You have your work cut out for you, but in the end it will be well worth it. Great video.

      I was wondering if it was a Wharram as well.

    Well you got you money's worth and then some, the mast alone is worth more than you paid 👍Those bilges have been dry for a long time, which is promising, a good dry hull is a great starting point and a solid foundation to build on, seems like a great project, so I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

    What an awesome way to learn about yachts and get out on the water! Sure it'll be a lot of work but it'll be a lot of fun too. Look forward to seeing how you get on with the fixup and when you get out properly sailing!

    Nothing more expensive than a cheap boat.

    Cool boat! I had an idea for the outboard motor mount on the transom: if you wanted leave it where it is you could attach a brace between the mount (where you plan to put the backing plate) and the deck. Create a triangle. One on each edge of the backing plate.

    Your $2 boat/catamaran has elements of a Wharram design and a Prout design. Was it a "home build" or was the boat production built?? The engine design of lowering and taking them back out if the water, I think is kinda cool 😎. Be watchful of soft spots whether they be in the hull or in the cabin. Good luck and happy, safe sailing. 👍⛵🙂

      Lol 😂 you should see what they found on board... quite the return on their investment.... Plus there's a lot they can sort out with basic tools and 🤞🏻 not a great deal of expenditure that depends on their scavenging and improvisational skills.
      I think they will make it work well enough to get them out on the coastal waters. 👍🏼🧙🏻‍♂️🇬🇧

      Haha, yeah it’s an awesome boat. I would have jumped on it for a thousand times what they paid. Looking forward to seeing what they do with it.

    Woods design?

  • @RulgertGhostalker
    @RulgertGhostalker 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    the positive buoyancy foam placement is a bit of a thought tangle with catamarans ... it's 2#/ft^3, ( but displaces 64# per ), so it does add weight, but the piece of mind is worth it.
    the tangle comes in where the pontoons are the best place to put the weight, by weight....but any adjacent cabin areas are the best place for it by the insulation properties.
    so I don't know how that's going to pan out, but there are other forms of marine insulation which also add positive buoyancy.....which makes the design process more convoluted, but weight the boat, and do the math along the way.
    gotta get it up on the hard, let it dry out, repair and seal up the wood first...otherwise the boundary will form a place where moisture can fester.
    penetrating epoxy, micro balloons, and 4oz glass weave comes to mind.
    you might want to consider ditching the Bimini , and making a short hard dodger with divinycell.
    I think you could just design and cut the foam, and tack it together with bits of tape, here and there, then start glassing the seems, and work into a structure in place, one step at a time

    good move ditching the spinnaker.
    just clutters things up, makes for complications and broken stuff, and only adds a little extra speed at the point of sail where you don't need it;
    AND adds drag when you don't need any extra drag.
    so vamboose and good residence to the spinnaker, plenty of other things that need your attention there ... you're off to good start having the intelligence to do that.

    If ya could, that'd be great.
