Our family motto is “The first offer should insult them.” Give them a offer so far below asking price that you are 99% sure they will reject it but there is a possibility they might accept and if they counter it is going to be much lower than if you gave them a offer barely below their asking price. Yes this might piss them off so much they give you the finger but that is very rare.

Nice video and comments. Longtime monohull owner here, but recently converted to a Cat. Two years back, we located and purchased a 2012 FP Lipari 41 owners version 3/2 layout. Never chartered. It had been sailed from the Med to Martinique where we found it thru the brokers ad asking $310K. While there was some wear and tear it was mainly to the canvas, running rigging and gel shine due to the tropic sun. However all systems and interior were in good shape due to moderate use. The Volvo Penta saildrive engines had 1500 hrs. After a survey and demo sail a price of $270k was accepted.
While we have done several updates and upgrades since the purchase, main expenses were addition of A/C and a genset ( about $40K) but we have brand new reliable systems and wife is happy!
We have found dockage and insurance to be more costly than my earlier monohulls so take those two things into consideration when purchasing. I think there are cost advantages to consider when buying out of country depending on what you want and your sailing experience. Happy cruising!

If you decide you want more toilets, given the aluminum tanks, the composting style toilet seems the logical way to go. Nice to have a dedicated shower space.

Yes! It's a conundrum. It's not bad having one of each. Not sure why we can't seem to make a good marine head system. It always seems to be the worst part of a boat.

Thank you for sharing. We are about 9 months away from our purchace. 10% seems far for an offer.

Thank you for the honest review. Would like to know about insurance costs, coverages and company that insured the boat.

Sorry for my ignorance, how would this boat compare to a Aventura 37 new? very close in price no? Is the difference in quality as big as the price difference?

Did your inspector and sea trial catch any of these issues/modifications?

    • @BFSailing
      @BFSailing  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yes. He did a very good job and caught a lot of them. They never catch them all.

Your corian counters are easily fixed they just need diamond polishing and good composite kitchen top dealer should have or know one.

Those older cats have such low bridge deck clearance.

$282 US is still a high price for a 2005 year model cat.

With the amount of "customization" that the previous owners did, this was a $250,000 cat at best. I would have bought a much better mono, 10 years younger.

I have 120k for a Cat and get $1500 a month residual income. Do you think I can afford it? Should I look at something around 80k or spend the whole 120k? I lived on a mono and retired Coast Guard so I can do fiberglass, electrical, and mechanical. I am looking at everything under 40' like a PDQ, Dean, Gemini, Fountaine, Admiral, Edel.. Every one that standing rigging and running rigging has been done are around $150k. I want to go around Asia and surf so shallow draft is key for me. Let me what route should I take.
    Mahalo,

Thank you for the comment! I don't know if I can answer for you. It depends upon so many things and many of things are things about YOU and how you want to use the boat, where you want to keep the boat, how handy you are with fixing things, and what your tolerance for things not being perfect on the boat are. I can say this, if you have a high tolerance for things not being ideal about your boat AND you plan on keeping the boat on the move and out of marinas and expensive environments then you can keep relatively little cash in reserve. The boat needs solid standing and running rigging, a solid main sail and head sail, and it needs to keep water out reliably. If you have those things, you can sail the world on any budget. It's just a question of how fast you'll go and what level of comfort you will live in. People will debate all day long about what must be done to a boat and what you should have on your boat before you set out on your adventure. You won't get that advice from me because the only person that knows what you really need is you. Don't let cautionary tales from others scare you off from breaking free. Good luck!

No. $1500 is not even enough to live on a small monohull

I don’t understand, you offered 290k and they accepted, then you went back with an even lower offer?

After the survey, yes. We uncovered some problems with the AirCon on some other things not represented in the listing so there was room to ask for a further adjustment.

@@BFSailingRun Barnacle buster through the engines salt water cooling system. 😊 Get yourselves a big roll of butyl tape and rebed all your deck hardware on parts that take load drill out the holes & use thickened epoxy to bear the loads.

Great video, if I may, I would not replace the engines, I myself would rather go electric, it's a high cost once off and in the long run it pays for it self. But you have a lot of problems, noting that you cant handle, May you have some great sailing.

Do the maths first where is he going to find space for 3 times as much solar panels although the other alternatives are 2 high output alternators (which means keeping the engines) or a either w

The best solution if you can afford it is to go parallel hybrid when you rebuild the engines.

How what? Is that why the lower trough is 282 thousand dollars?
And of course the surveyor also got some...
Well, it's not such a good ship.
The realistic price of this would have been around 200,000 dollars.
It's funny that you praise the waterproofness of the side hatch and the wooden edge mounted on the edge of the material is all discolored from mold.
Anyway, at least the sellers are happy.
You, on the other hand, will have so many problems that it will never end.
Well, here is a vivid example of why the price of catamarans is unrealistically high. Well, because the possibility of possession without any criticism makes you orgasm.
    Good luck!
