Phantom of the Opera, Romeo and Juliet, W.E., Moulin Rouge, Samson and Delilah, Spartacus, Gladiator are a couple of others that are popular to skate too nowadays
I love that Adam Rippon chose "Arrival of the Birds" for his free skate, a beautiful and moving piece of music such as that was practically written for a performance like that!
4:40 I think is really at the heart of why a skater should choose the music they skate to. The most memorable and adored programs are the ones that skaters genuinely look like they are putting their heart and soul into it, and having the time of their lives. I love watching any skater who just looks so happy to be out there. Love you, Adam! :D
so so true. It really translates into their performance. eventhough they're a few hiccups here and there, but you just get the emotions that they're conveying. I esp feel this with his performance for free skating in team event and with the german pair FS. It was just amazing. I mean yeah technical scores are important. But the whole performance reach out to the audience when the figure skaters enjoy every minute of their routine.
I skated to Carmen as one of the last programs of my figure skating career. No regrets. Such a beautiful song that allows you to interpret a character and move with flow on the ice. Was definitely my favorite program.
Why wouldn't a producer jump at a chance to make a beat to a skaters choreography? Wouldnt that make it more personalized and impactful? Also you're repping your country by supporting your athletes. win win
Matthew Fornear a number of skaters do seek out composers. But there’s many factors to weigh when getting a song. This includes things like cost, skill of composer, skill of the skater, and audience reception. It’s not easy just getting a song from a professional that suits ones skillset and that will allow for auditory /and/ visual draw. Any music can be used now, but this as always included edited suites and covers :)
as a figure skater, carmen will always remain a classic and even though you can skate to lyrics now, There’s still someone on every competition skating to carmen
Yes, johnny weir has skated to poker face, maia and alex shibutani have skated to coldplay several times, yuzuru hanyu has skated to the doors -hello i love you, evgenia medvedeva has even skated as sailor moon to sailor moon music. Theres many many more this is just what i remember
That’s Jimmy Ma. Although his program went viral, he didn’t place well enough in both Nationals and other competitions needed. One would need to do well in those competitions for a spot in the US olympic team
As much as I like classics music, I’m thrilled the horizons have been expanded. I feel like the average performance will be more intense for more viewers and it could help prop up aspects of artistry that are kind of under fire.
That's it for * Skate Week * ! If you’re just tuning in, you can catch up on the rest of our skating videos here, starting with a triple axel explainer featuring Mirai Nagasu: bit.ly/2oGrA7N
Vox i have a weird feeling with the lyrics option musicals will replace operas its already been seen with performances to almost every song from Hamilton and many more it offers the same benefits as opera will remaining new and modern. Also allows you to play with the era ie a tradition skate to non tradition music (probably why people use Hamilton) i can definitely see pieces set to i dreamed a dream or she used to be mine. But that’s just my guess.
Vox People hated these videos, but these videos are pretty interesting! Keep on doing what you guys are doing. It's always good to see something other than politics stuff you know?
I would love to see more Audiomachine(sol Invictus), Thomas Bergesen(Two Steps From Hell), Artem Yergerov(open your mind) and Axl Rosenburg’s into the wild! Types of epics like these :)
Which makes you ask who has the time to dislike a video like this. I barely have the time to leave a like on a really good video. Who actually hates this video enough to have to leave a dislike?
Lot of respect for figure skaters, very talented people, but their sport is subjective and shares more similarities with dancing than it does with sport. The same can be said for types of gymnastics. Still tonnes of respect for figure skaters.
I would love to see figure skaters taking on ATB's songs. They are so emotional and I rarely see people figure skating to Vocal Trance music, very very very rare... And Vocal Trance is SUPPOSED to be the "modern classical music".
I'd love it if there were a skating program to Pink Floyd's "Learning to Fly" or Aerosmith's "Living on the Edge". Just throwing it out there to any future Olympian who thinks same. #WinterGames2022 I hadn't known that programs to songs with lyrics wasn't a thing until recently!
Ice dancing is a discipline of figure skating that draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976. As in pair skating, dancers compete as a couple consisting of a man and a woman. Ice dance differs from pair skating by having different requirements for lifts. Couples must perform spins as a team in a dance hold, and throws and jumps are disallowed. Typically, partners are not supposed to separate by more than two arm lengths. Originally, partners were supposed to be in a dance hold the entire program, though modern ice dancing has lifted this restriction somewhat. Another distinction between ice dance and other skating disciplines is the use of music in the performances. In ice dancing, dancers must always skate to music with a definite beat or rhythm. Singles and pair skaters more often skate to the melody and phrasing of their music, rather than its beat. This is severely penalized in ice dance.
Honestly you'd be surprised at how little they make. They win prize money if they win competitions but coaching fees, ice time, costuming, skates and traveling are obscenely expensive - not to mention getting someone to do your music. I was surprised at how many skaters crowd funded, including Nathan Chen. They do get sponsorships/endorsements but that's pretty much only at the top of the top or more commonly around Olympic season.
I hope the 1% that see this remember to always keep following their dreams. Never give up, because Anything is possible!!! Mine is to be a successful TH-camr! ❤️ (which is really hard nowadays, anyways I’m always looking to support other youtubers!!) 🌟💞🤗
Sally Vee in my opinion lana del rey is a beautiful and talented young musician who has a gorgeous and raspy voice you should really try to listen to her songs ! :)
Gordon Ramsay's Girl, you are apparently culturally deprived, which is unfair to you. If you get the chance to experience the beautiful music and compelling drama of CARMEN (not to mention so many other wonderful operas), you'll be blessed with a great gift!
Based on the multiple disciplines using music from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, I'd say they found their new Carmen. Although there were still excessive use of Carmen in the ladies program
Someone needs to skate to Africa by Toto.
Skating to Africa is rather difficult for lack of ice. ;)
varana312 Nice
For a whole continent?!
ThisIsTeeKay YESSSS ILL DO IT!!!
Give me like a year. I'm doing Betty Boop and Oh no first
Phantom of the Opera, Romeo and Juliet, W.E., Moulin Rouge, Samson and Delilah, Spartacus, Gladiator are a couple of others that are popular to skate too nowadays
Romeo and Juliet this year seems to be most popular.
Am I mistaken or is that Nathan chen casually doing quads in the background? lmao
TheInvincibleGirl loooool 😂😂
LMAOOOO
"You think this is just a quad?"
Made me watch the whole video again. lol
The "New Carmen" in figure skating isn't going to be Lil Jon.
It's already Moulin Rouge.
Whirlie12 i was about to say the same thing. That is def the popular lyric especially with the pair performances.
Dont forget about hallelujah
If I hear Hallelujah One. More. Time.
Papa can you hear me OMG. Phantom of the opera OMG. stahp
Indeed
My mans just death dropped in knife shoes
He did. He did a death drop!
*knife shoes* 😂
Yoi watcher
I predict a lot of Queen in the future.
yes!
Your prediction was correct. I really want to skate to queen next season
in Rhythmic Gymnastics, ITS EVERYWHERE!
Omg I figure skate and have wanted to do queen for years
i mean, mines abba. close enough i guess /hj
For all the people commenting about all the skating videos... VOX SAID THEY WERE DOING A SKATING WEEK
Shout out to moulin rouge the new carmen
Tricia G I WAS LEGIT SAYING THIS WHILST WATCHING
I love that Adam Rippon chose "Arrival of the Birds" for his free skate, a beautiful and moving piece of music such as that was practically written for a performance like that!
Typical Vox. Interesting, but never quite answers the question the title asks
Eiran Barkhordarian Well it wasn’t a question so
Those slowmo shots of figure skating were so beautiful. Thanks vox.
An alias slow mo shots of hockey and NHL are even better
Day6? More like Slay6 just said my thing
4:40 I think is really at the heart of why a skater should choose the music they skate to. The most memorable and adored programs are the ones that skaters genuinely look like they are putting their heart and soul into it, and having the time of their lives. abthurd for sure! It's the whole package!
Yuzuru Hanyu actually chooses, times and edits his skating music 🎵
Ok
Why didn't they mention the choice of songs with meaning(s)? Like Yulia Lipnitskaya skating to Schindler's list
Steven Spielberg personally thanked her for doing that.
Adam Rippon is a national treasure.
and a power bottom.
He’s a freak! He can be someone else’s national treasure.
Jeremy Yeager we all have a freaky side 😉🤑
oh, i'm sorry he offended you, homophobic trash. australia will gadly take him in as our national treasure.

I skated to Carmen as one of the last programs of my figure skating career. No regrets. Such a beautiful song that allows you to interpret a character and move with flow on the ice. Was definitely my favorite program.
funny that alina zagitova has done/is doing all three basic programs that adam mentioned...
Why wouldn't a producer jump at a chance to make a beat to a skaters choreography? Wouldnt that make it more personalized and impactful? Also you're repping your country by supporting your athletes. win win

This is great, but the title really should read: "...explained by America's Sweetheart Adam Rippon"
Adam is so talented and gorgeous...
Nathan fit af!
ikr
That ass
World spokesman for the Brazilian Blowout Federation
Nathan casually doing quads in the back i love him
I noticed him too!
been loving these videos 👏🏼
Are there skaters who choose modern pop songs? Such as lady gaga’s bad romance.
rewer that would be awesome
Yes, johnny weir has skated to poker face, maia and alex shibutani have skated to coldplay several times, yuzuru hanyu has skated to the doors -hello i love you, evgenia medvedeva has even skated as sailor moon to sailor moon music. Theres many many more this is just what i remember
rewer hahahhs "modern"
rewer wasn't that 15 years ago?
Starr andrews skated to a performance of Fever by Beyonce and One Moment in Time by Whitney Houston (and partly covered by herself) this year :)
They should skate with Lana Del Rey's Summertime Sadness.
BAM BAM Z. or Lana's Carmen
Still wouldn't be as moving as Julia Lipnitskaya skating to Schindler's list
Too slow of a song
xena Cedric Gervais Remix
As a figure skater: big NO. Too slow, no change in rhythm, terrible repetitiveness. The programme would be boring as hell.
Pump those synth beats up!
Techno pop is hockey. ;-)
David Buschhorn tf is techno pop
Adam is such an adorable little bean
OMG, he IS a bean!
No, he's extremely annoying.
Jorge Garcia, no wth is wrong with you
this was really interesting, thank you
If i were a skater i would choose Man's not hot
Mega Raph haha that would actually be sick
It would sort of be appropriate too, bonus marks if they could do it in a parka
Mega Raph that’s autistic
Mega Raph that will be hella hard if you don't slow it down
+Dead Rat That's not an insult.
Who wanna watch skaters skate to Gucci Gang?
Zedfinite I'd love it so much. Or some xxx distorted bass trap
They just put a garbage can on the ice rink and leave.
Then they make a musical instrument out of that can.
Zedfinite lmao
Vomit
Adam Rippon's skate to Coldplay is a stunning work of art.
bizet’s carmen is just so so beautiful. it’s been one of my favourite operas for years
Who’s the guy who skated to turn down for what? Why isn’t he at the Olympics?
That’s Jimmy Ma. Although his program went viral, he didn’t place well enough in both Nationals and other competitions needed. One would need to do well in those competitions for a spot in the US olympic team
More people need to skate to rap/hip-hop
Elias Bachner, please god no.
The Shibutani's are using a Jay-Z remix right now, it's pretty cool!
TinaOe the Shibs did their hip hop short dance last season actually, this season all the short dances are to latin
Adam Rippon is absolutely fluid in his movements and his jumps are perfect.
Heck...he's funny, clever witted...and has that actor talent. He's going places folks.
The new Carmen is cold play. They have the soft and melodic feel with some climax.
While I was listening to you Adam, I was definitely watching Nathan practice in the background...
Adam is adorable. He absolutely killed his performance today. Great job!
I hope Classical music still prosper!
Classical Music is irreplacable!
Also for anyone super interested in this topic, watch Alexei’s yagudin’s skate to Gladiator at the Olympics! The story in his skate is beautiful
Adam is so amazing
I would!
It has to be Bolero now, there's someone doing it in every competition
Our quad king casually in the background
Adam Rippon is such an inspiration for coming out and giving a voice to so many people!
Japan one time used Yuri On Ice as their song...
what, no
Rokinco One couple did use one YoI track in the Olympics but not History Maker
XXLYS I know. I didn't say that they use History Maker. I said that they used the song "Yuri on Ice".
It wasn't history maker it was the one the Japanese guy skates to
Hen Chen I know that... I said that they danced to the song "Yuri on Ice"...
As much as I like classics music, I’m thrilled the horizons have been expanded. I feel like the average performance will be more intense for more viewers and it could help prop up aspects of artistry that are kind of under fire.
That Français québécois though...
That's what I thought
@@Nehmi i knoooow, i was like omg i know where this guy is from
eligirl100 Omg, I was like is he Canadian? Haha. Thanks for confirming.
People now don't know how nice it is to hear a song u love again and again. NOICE
YASS! I ddin't know I needed this collab but so happy it's here!
Adam in the front giggling and Nathan in the background quading, what a treat!
Everyone: CARMEN
shibsibs: okay but Coldplay though
Vincent: okay but are you a depressed meme though
i've been looking forward to adam and nathan's programs all day

Lmao is Nathan Chen just skating it up in the background?
Congrats on getting to the Olympics, Paint! So proud of you, Jon Cozart.
anyone else notice how that guy had 2 razer keyboards?
SQLDatabase 😂
I’d expect someone with the name “SQLDatabase” to notice.
It took a while for me to get used to lyrics in skating. I am fully on board now, and love it!
Adam, you're a star! Congrats
I would love to see more Audiomachine(sol Invictus), Thomas Bergesen(Two Steps From Hell), Artem Yergerov(open your mind) and Axl Rosenburg’s into the wild! Types of epics like these :)
Don’t know what it is but I clicked it and I’m here
this needs to be like hours longer
You know your early when there's no dislikes
Joseph, Jr Skidmore
You know you're kind of early when the title dislikes have already settled in.
Which makes you ask who has the time to dislike a video like this. I barely have the time to leave a like on a really good video. Who actually hates this video enough to have to leave a dislike?
Joseph, Jr Skidmore YOU'RE
Enzo Mondoñedo
Not the video, Vox.
You get two buttons... that's not much of choice and zero nuance.
I thought this was going to be a video about "hallelujah" cuz like... man I've heard that song so much during these skates.
Moulin Rouge! is the new Carmen
Flash to 2022, we have a French skater, skating to Star Wars.
“Appeal to a younger audience”
As a young instrumental musician, that hurt my little heart 💔
I was wondering what they did before they had musical recordings, and you answered it immediately. Thank you!
They had to play violin or trumpet while skating !
Lot of respect for figure skaters, very talented people, but their sport is subjective and shares more similarities with dancing than it does with sport. The same can be said for types of gymnastics. Still tonnes of respect for figure skaters.
Now we get Carmen with lyrics!
the North Korean figure skaters chose the Beatles
came for adam rippon, stayed for the surprisingly interesting topic
I wanna see a skater skate to any of the songs in The Greatest Showman soundtrack👌👍😍
Grace Robertson you got your wish with the gala finale of the olympics XD
I would love to see figure skaters taking on ATB's songs. They are so emotional and I rarely see people figure skating to Vocal Trance music, very very very rare...

I thought i had it figured out with Yuri On Ice, wow.
Yoi is fake bc there's no warhorses lmao. Everybody's music was too nice and unique to be accurate :v
Eripon's Biceps Well, it's an anime. Still, they threw in a little beethoven and others :P
You guys should do a video on the difference between ice dancing and figure skating. Because I had no idea until a few dances ago.
Ice dancing is a discipline of figure skating that draws from ballroom dancing. It joined the World Figure Skating Championships in 1952, and became a Winter Olympic Games medal sport in 1976.

Coldplay is the new Carmen 💁♀️
Yas
YESSSS I loved when Adam skated to “O” by Coldplay!
And radiohead, so many skated to it at this years olympics
Adam is pure gold when he skates
That bracelet Adam's wearing tho👀 figure skaters make bank like that huh....
Ada banana. Yeah they get prize money but most of their earnings are from endorsements
Honestly you'd be surprised at how little they make. They win prize money if they win competitions but coaching fees, ice time, costuming, skates and traveling are obscenely expensive - not to mention getting someone to do your music. I was surprised at how many skaters crowd funded, including Nathan Chen. Adam did a video explaining how he makes what he makes
When Tonya Harding landed her historical trip axel, part of the music was Tone Loc's Wild Thing. 🤣 I LOVE that.
Ice figure skating to Trap and Moombaton? Sounds interesting :D
This video is very extra and I'm HERE FOR IT
I was watching Yuri on Ice when this was uploaded :'D
Did you know that two Japanese skaters skated to Yuri on Ice?
No, I didn't know that. That's very cool!
(sorry for the super late response ^^)
Effing love Carmen, personally, it gets pretty hype in some parts. I listen to it while i study :)
When your name is Carmen 😎
I hate it when skaters use Swan Lake or Romeo and Juliette. Like c'mon people, there are so many good, original pieces out there!
I hope the 1% that see this remember to always keep following their dreams. Never give up, because Anything is possible!!! Mine is to be a successful TH-camr! ❤️ (which is really hard nowadays, anyways I’m always looking to support other youtubers!!) 🌟💞🤗
I was a figure skater. Habanera is smooth and flirty. That's ideal for posing on the ice. Great for that little wink over the shoulder at the audience
the only carmen i've heard of is by lana del rey
Sally Vee in my opinion lana del rey is a beautiful and talented young musician who has a gorgeous and raspy voice you should really try to listen to her songs ! :)
Well then I reccommend you listen to some pieces from the opera and learn a little today. Skip one minute in: th-cam.com/video/mJeXahYmbZE/w-d-xo.html
been looking for this

Gordon Ramsay's Girl, you are apparently culturally deprived, which is unfair to you. If you get the chance to experience the beautiful music and compelling drama of CARMEN (not to mention so many other wonderful operas), you'll be blessed with a great gift!
Based on the multiple disciplines using music from the Moulin Rouge soundtrack, I'd say they found their new Carmen. Although there were still excessive use of Carmen in the ladies program
He's such a sweetie.
When the guy's skating clips,I legit started hollering,"You go king!" Never would of thought "Turn Down For What" would be used as a skating song
Omg I freaking love him
the important thing I've learned from this is that Les Toreadors is the "you beat the game!" music from NES Tetris
*_Darude Sandstorm intensifies_*
Sleeping At Last any of their songs would be beautiful to skate to.
You are the cutest Adam 😘
Nutcracker's grand pas de deux is extraordinary. The best ever.
