watching this in 2024 while missing yuzuru's competitive days and anybody notice a difference in speed of skating and entries/landings of jumps these days? aside from artistry and musicality which yuzuru dominates in, his form from entry to landing is gorgeous and the actual speed of yuzuru's skating is insane... watch the backboards blur while he's preparing to enter a jump, his spinning torque, the distance he travels in midair when he jumps, and footwork across the ice. he is a legend.
Will he skate again somewhere? I know he has been retired 😢

he broke the 100 barrier in an official ISU competition at the games. he actually broke 100 a little while back before this but bc the competition wasn't sanctioned by the ISU, it couldn't count towards any world records.

He has grace, phenomenal talent, exceptional artistry, heartfelt passion and so much determination. Absolutely flawless. Once in a lifetime a phenomenon comes along, I just witnessed that. Goosebumps all over and made me cry. ❤❤❤❤
There will never be another skater like Yuzu. He was literally perfect. Nobody could skate like him - such power and grace. He is sadly missed in the skating community. It was always a pleasure watching him on the ice.
Why is he missed ? He never stopped skating ! He is doing ice show after ice show, has a youtube channel where he uploads his skating, has instagram and twitter and is basically revolutioning the world of pro skating with his 2h30 solo ice shows. He is even a gucci ambassador. Fans are getting spoiled compared to his competitive era when he tended to disappear with no news for weeks 🤣

What is a short program? Sorry I just knew about hanyu an hour ago and I'm completely clueless when it comes to this field.
@@cherrycheol3266 it's basically the program that happens before the free skate segment. It's usually about 2 minutes and 50 seconds long. Less than the length of an MV. Perhaps the length of an Mcountdown stage. Hence called short program

I think in the short program its is way more critical to skate clean and land all the required elements for scoring and 3A is a bigger risk since its harder.

decided to come back to this after being a fan of his for about 7 years now , i'll never forget having p.e during his program and getting permission from my teacher to skip class to watch him skate, the deal was i had to interrupt class to tell her his score, the look on her face when i ran in screaming "101.45!!!!!" was unforgettable

This is so sweet! His first program I watched was the free for the Sochi Olympics but I saw it one year later, randomly searching on youtube because I remembered I loved watching skating as a kid on national tv. Even with some mistakes he had made, I was so captivated by his elegance and being clueless about figure skating I started watching the sport in general. I've been hooked ever since. At worlds 2017, I had only watched the short program and at the free I was at my first job, second day, working on Easter eve. My sister called me excited on the way home on the bus, not a figure skating fan, so I should have realised this was important. I was ready to tell her about the job, tired and sad beacuse I had missed the game and I thought he stood no chance after the sp and she goes "Yeah, yeah all right..Do you know who got it? Hanyu :p " I don't think I will ever forget this moment.

What I really really like about him the most besides his crazy passion, is how thankful he is. Of course he doesn't look that different. He's 26 not 40. People generally don't age that much between 19-26. However, it'd be amazing if he still look the same when he reach his 40s or 50s tho.

I’m sorry but the way people shouted Russia just before his performance was about to start was really disrespectful. And the crowd did it after Yuna Kim’s performance too. Yuzuru may not be fazed by those things but for a skater with any less stale nerves that would’ve been very distracting.
the Sochi crowd in general was just very very rude. even at the awards ceremony they were disgraceful. it makes me not want another olympic to be held there honestly

I just want to say what people from Russia are very "old". They don't like other countries like USA or Japan, but I want to say what not all people are like that. Now teen-agers are more tolerant and want to discover different countries.

It's has been 5 years since this performance...still my most favorite performance! I credit this performance on getting me into figure skating. Hanyu is now GOAT.

His skating looks so effortless. He looks so natural on ice.
Here we are, so many years later. There are 2 types of skaters. Yuzuru Hanyu and everyone else. Announcers can say what they want. NOONE compares to Yuzuru. I'm fortunate to have lived in his era.
