    Great video Tom. As part of your pre-drive routine, try turning off the speed sign warning but leave the recognition on. It will display the speed sign in the HUD but won't beep at you if you go over 👌

      A car should not require constant setting changes when you drive. Eyes on road is the best saftey not looking around to turn annoying Bing's off. We have an atto 3 and the latest update is crazy. I can head towards a tree or barrier and it won't do anything, but whilst in or near centre of the lane, the emergency lane bing's 10 times in a 5km trip. Really rubbish and destroy the drive. Where is wireless carplay. Wireless Android has worked for 6 mnths.

      It's funny bash the Nissan Leaf, but once you turn something off, it stays off or on, same with the Tesla. Then you get the salesperson always saying that it has to be that way on a Chinese EV to get that 5 star crash rating. MG are just as bad or worse with the speed indication flashing even if you go just 1kph over the limit!

    I’m now getting to the stage of only enjoying one pedal driving and basic LKA in our TESLA.

    • @LudicrousFeed
      @LudicrousFeed  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Fantastic! How exciting!

    • @gregb1599
      @gregb1599 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, you will miss that one pedal driving and LKA as no one beats Tesla's LKA. So far, the charging from other reviews has been poor, with one NZ showing less than 100kw, I believe it had trouble getting above 40kw! He claims BYD said it should get better as the car ages, I would hope so when other 800v cars like the Kia EV6 can sustain 200kw up to 50% and 170kw till close to 80%. Having to turn everything off every single time you start the car will get old soon! The Tesla and other non Chinese EV can be switched off by default and not reingage every time you start the car up.
      Even our old 2021 Nissan Leaf, the lane keep can be turned off permanently, and its one pedal driving can be set to always stay on and even remember the distance settings. V2L is a great positive, though, however, we have yet to use that on our new EV6, which has two power outlets. We love the EV6, the same as the Seal big batteries for long distances, especially in the Seal case with its 82kwh and better efficiency.

    • @ElusiveTy
      @ElusiveTy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The lack of stalks is the only part that I find truly baffling about newer Teslas. It's really frustrating because I think more people would buy the vehicles if it had a speedo above the wheel and now also stalks...

    • @tren133
      @tren133 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      BYD voice command (and infotainment software in general really) is actually mediocre by Chinese standards, since for whatever reason Chinese consumers are really into using voice command function. Chinese EVs made by their startup carmakers (such as Xpeng, Nio etc) are more software focused and their voice command is even faster and more functional. For instance in some of those cars you can give them a string of commands one after another without stopping and it will quickly carry them all out. Or the best systems which will recognize commands based on which passenger it is coming from, and in those cars all 4 passengers can simultaneously give out voice commands, and the car can process them all and within a couple of seconds carry all of them out.

    Really appreciate the effort you putting in to promote the change to EVs.
    Climate can easily be controlled by adding hot or cold to any sentence starting with Hi Byd. Air vents can be manoeuvred thru the AC display settings. If you turn down the slider for audio Nav, it may lower some of those annoying warnings.

      Yeah, when we first test drove the Dolphin earlier this year every time a bike was in our right lane, it would warn us it was super annoying, the dealer also made sure the lane keep was off as she said the car would try and kill us (her words). Thankfully, when the NZ update came out, the lane kept working quite well, and that bike warning was long gone!

    • @ElusiveTy
      @ElusiveTy 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@LudicrousFeedIt's a bit of an unfortunate necessity until an alternative is found. Australia hasn't regulated the need for it yet so that (the Atto 3) sounds like they might have just kept it in because other markets have laws in place for PWS. No doubt we'll catch up with those laws eventually which on one hand is extremely unfortunate, because the whole benefit of an EV is meant to be that it's silent but on the other hand, those that are hard of vision are significantly at risk - I can only imagine how scary that would be, being blind and knowing there are cars driving around but not hearing them. The only indication is tyre noise without a PWS and that only picks up at high speeds.
      Hopefully we find a better way in future!
      Edit: I must not have understood what exactly was being spoken about! Rather than change my whole comment, I'll just clarify that I was talking about humming/external vehicle noise that EVs make in other markets to warn pedestrians. It sounds like this discussion was talking about internal warning systems for objects/pedestrians outside (to warn the driver). My mistake but I'll keep my two cents on the other topic!

    As always great informative videos. Especially your BYD videos. In South Africa for the last few years we have only had the very expensive German, Swiss and British EVs avaible. We finally have the Atos 3 and soon the Dolphin will be avaiable too. So cheaper options. And plus, great that they have V2L as in South Africa we have "loadshedding" planned blackouts, so that could come handy to keep thing going during blackouts.

And the interior is definitely a lot nicer than the atto. But jeez that software needs some work. Hi Tom, thought I'd give you some more feedback on things I discovered on my Seal that you might like to share with your viewers in a future video.
    The pop out handles can be manually tilted and opened, similar to how a Tesla door handle works, although it takes two hands. There is also a key hidden in the key fob and a key hole behind the back edge of the door handle on the driver's door. These features are obviously useful if you get stuck without power or your key fob stops working.
    Also, I found I get better efficiency on highway driving with cruise control activated, if I leave the automatic regen on standard (instead of high).
    Finally, the circle logo on the key fob will activate the A/C if you press it for a short while.

    Interesting to hear your initial first drive thoughts Tom. Yes, the BYD smell is interesting. Not horrible, but not my favourite new car smell. It has mostly gone in our 2-month-old Atto 3, so you won't have it for long. Hopefully I'll get to test the Premium and Performance soon.
    The Atto 3 will be quite different to drive. It has the expected "rolly-polly" drive from an SUV with its higher centre of gravity. Not really a criticism, just a fact with SUV's. The "sedan" drive should be superior in the Seal.
    The software must be mostly familiar to you after having driven the Atto 3 a number of times. I found in the Atto 3 that the heater A/C settings are difficult to master as the temperature settings (numbers) are a lot different than in an ICE car. Given the Seal uses the same heat pump I'd expect it is the same.
    The app takes about a week because your VIN has to be registered for the app to be activated and that apparently takes around a week to filter through the BYD system. I believe the SIM card takes a couple of days to be activated also?
    Looking forward to your further impressions and suggested tweaks you come across and recommend. Saves me all the work. LOL 🙂

    I would be interested to know if the Seal’s speed sign recognition can read the LED variable speed signs on the motorway. The Tesla certainly can’t.
    A short press on the mic button gives you BYD assistant. A long press accesses your phone’s assistant (Siri or Google Assistant). Much better than using the wake word.

    FYI the beeping you hear in the 'intrusive ADAS' timestamp is the car reading the 40 kph sign on the back of the moving bus and/or the inactive school zone sign, and thinking he was speeding when he really wasn't. First beep is when he passes where the car first recognized the bus's 40 sign, second is when he passes the school zone sign.
    Does this to me all the time, and I have to turn off the 'intelligent speed information' setting in TSR every time I start the car ... FFS BYD keep this setting disabled when we turn it off, it's not fit for purpose yet

    I had a look at the Seal Premium in the BYD showroom and I've looked at the Model 3 as well as the Model Y. I personally found the rear cargo space in the BYD Seal to be less than the Model 3 because it's not a hatch-back so it feels a bit smaller than the Model 3, which also has a similar issue with how it's designed. That's why I opted for the Model Y even though I have to pay an extra $28k for it, with an 18 month son and going to be going lot of places with him. Hey mate, greetings from Thailand i picked my BYD Seal Performance on Xmas Day and have just been on a 700KM drive and managed to get to play with the performance and drive comfort.
    There are so many options in the settings, try saying BYD im getting hot or cold and she will adjust your temps either way.
    One thing with the HUD when using the HUID it doesn't show nav system, hopefully that will come in the next update.

    Tom, I was thinking about the lack of a camera at the top of the windscreen, but it's fitted on the Atto 3. For a premium car, this seems like a bad omission. However, what concerns me more is if this omission is actually compromising the lane keep and autopilot features, because the car is lacking a top down view of the road, and is relying only on the low down bumper camera. What do you think?

    • @LudicrousFeed

      I recently saw a direct comparison review of the new Tesla Model 3 with the Seal, and the Seal let in substantially less heat…
      And the Seal comes with black, clip on sunshades as standard. They are an optional extra with Tesla.
      Bottom line is that Tesla really do screw those owners who live in very hot climates. For a $700 billion car company, Tesla can do better 😏😏😏
