NZ really dropped the ball on the pricing compared to the AU pricing. The Seal is selling like hot cakes here with close to 2k pre-orders in the first week.
@@sibaraku2023 I think EVdirect in AUS wants to really challenge Tesla here with this pricing of the Seal. It's only $4000 more compared to the Chinese domestic retail price! where as the Atto3/Dolphin is over $10000 more. Dolphin and Atto3 is seen as a cheap budget friendly model in the BYD line up. Seal is their premium tier. Seal is such a bargain here many people who were about to buy the Tesla is seriously considering the Seal.

Have to say, that is an impressive looking car. If they did a wagon/estate version with a *little* bit of lift - not a crossover, just an electric Volvo V60 Cross Country/XC70 or Audi Allroad - then I'd be all over it. Great to see BYD actually going in full-throttle... their battery tech is extremely impressive and in a few years their wrecks will be repowering so many classic and not-so-classic cars.
Over here in Australis there's a pale blue leather interior option for an additional $1500. Personally I prefer the black. Found the panoramic roof no problem on a test drive. Yes it would be better if the cover was electric like an ATTO 3. Have a Seal on order, so far have only driven the Premium, Performance demonstrators thin on the ground here at the moment.
Been to see it at BYD. Had a test drive. Very impressed. I can't understand the "logic" behind massive extra charges for colors other than their standard offering. Very attractive car, great review as always. Outstanding review. Thank you so much. Personally, I don't agree with the sedan side of things as I'd have liked BYD to introduce a competitor to a Tesla Model Y first. That said, I am slightly tempted. We already have an Atto 3 and are very happy with that. I lost my Tesla Model Y RWD in an accident in October and I'm missing it so may go and check out the Seal here in WA. Thanks again.

Can you comment on the autopilot function in detail please? Also have you test driven the highland 3? I'm tempted by the seal but can't look past the autosteer in a tesla and how almost every reviewer says is leaps and bounds better than the byds

Spuds in the boot? Tesla Model 3, which is shorter, has significantly more boot space. Seal boot and froot is only the same as the 345mm shorter Atto 3! It's a great report, though Gavin.
one thing to love about the seal and hate about my tesla - The voice control is basically an idiot in my tesla, while it just works (like it should) in the BYD
Gavin, was your test BYD seal the shark grey colour? I have ordered that colour and the ocean blue interior for my performance model, BYD Seal sedan here in Australia
BEFORE you decide - try BOTH the BYD Seal in an AWD version as well as a Tesla 3 Long Range Highland. I did so (Europe) last week. Even if the Seal comes with a lot of quality it still feels like a version 1 car and I will definitely recommend to wait for a version 2, for the following 4 reasons: 1) In the Tesla you get a much more firm and direct driving experience. You feel it especially while steering and while accelerating. 2) Car efficiency measured as kW to milage is lower in the Seal, probably because of the higher weight (´+ 300 kilo) and poor brake regen. 3) In the Seal the Software UI as well as the functionality feel like a generation or two older. Old school menues, different menues to control driving set-up, lot of scrolling up and down etc. Besides that parts of the SW didn't really work while I tested the car a week ago - especially the parts where assisted driving is involved. 4) DC charging is quite slower in the Seal (150 kW) than the Tesla (250 kW) which will leave you wating a lot at the charging stations. An overall conclusion is that the BYD Seal feels a bit like old school car compared to the Tesla.
Not sure what you mean by poor brake regen, it regens when you lift off the accelerator as well as the first part of using the physical brake, the Tesla doesn't regen through the brake pedal. Already a lot of reviews are saying the Seal is more refined and comfortable than the M3 Highland so point 1 is your personal preference. Point 4 I will take the LFP batteries over the NMC and live with the slower charging. I will give you point 2 & 3 but they aren't deal breakers for me. The Seal is better looking than the Highland I prefer the older M3 than the Highland. In Australia the Performance Seal is about $8,500k cheaper than the M3 Dual Motor, so something to think about here.
Need to come over to Australia Gav and test the lighter colour interior version, think they call it an ocean blue. That shade for the panoramic roof definitely seems to be a faff and attacks you when you try to put it in. Weird as both Dolphin & Atto 3 have the motorised cover.
That's because you don't need the cover to block out heat with it's silver coated sunroof that's not available in the Dolphin & Atto3. Seal is a more premium segment car in China compared to the Atto3/Dolphin.
Are you sure the AWD Seal is having only 7.2kW and not 11kW ? Or is this something specific to New Zealand ? Does it only do 2-phase (with 16 amps) charging then (and not 3-phase, as I've been told)?
Looks like a cousin of the polestar 2. The seat adjustments are the same and the screen presentation are very similar. The front truck is the same space and form and only thing I miss the total automatic driving soft. The polestar has an "assistant driving" system very similar. Good review. But I will choose a model 3. BYD is ridiculously expensive in New Zealand compared to Tesla. BYD seal indeed if I was living in Australia.
@@slavko321 Well, model 3 and Y are budget cars, so are Atto 3 and Seal. I have no problem with EVs in NZ are more expensive than Austrlia or other countries. BYD is always expensive on the initial shipments. The prices will drop in time - and probably also once the rebates go on Dec 31st. Failing all that, just buy one in Aus and ship it here.
Show evidence of a rusty chassis matters.BYD in China for a long time, never seen the Seal ‘s chassis rust problem. byd car battery charging also works on tesla supercharging...

I think seal charging faster than Tesla . Check it out
What is the idea behind BYD making the screen able to change orientation .
竖屏看地图更方便,导航更精准
@@jilinren1983 谢谢 👍
Why is there no tint on the front windows?
0:44 those head rests adjustable?
Is this exterior colour ice blue or indigo grey? Those are colour names in Europe don't know are they same in there.
Can some one advise me, this window roof is it ok withour a curtain? I mean is it feel hot under the direct sun light
First time someone had built a genuine Tesla competitor honestly.
The UK Market can get the Tahitian Blue on all models. I'm sure when it's released in NZ you'll get the blue as an option.
Good review. But I will choose a model 3. BYD is ridiculously expensive in New Zealand compared to Tesla. BYD seal indeed if I was living in Australia.
It's funny how Tesla became the budget, sensible choice.
@@slavko321 Well, model 3 and Y are budget cars, so are Atto 3 and Seal. I have no problem with EVs in NZ are more expensive than Austrlia or other countries. It is NZ, everything is more expensive... But if you want to sell a seal $5000 more expensive than Model 3&Y which is cheaper in any other countries, I would say good car, I like it but no thank you, I can spend that 5k somewhere else.
BYD is always expensive on the initial shipments. The prices will drop in time - and probably also once the rebates go on Dec 31st. Failing all that, just buy one in Aus and ship it here.
@@iatsd The exchange rate explains about half the difference.
Can you review the base model too, Gavin?
Seal is the deal. Performance benchmark (Wheelsboy channel)!
Is it hot in sunny day?
Is this the Shark Grey colouring?
Great video! How is theaudio?
You have Sealed the deal for me. I am going to be a sealer !
The low slang car as you call it, for me they are to hard to get in and out of. Is the self drive a monthly sub?
Outright trying to bring price and feature competition to the Ioniq 6/Tesla Model 3.
Which color is the one you drove?
Let’s SEAL the deal!!
I’d me more concerned to see if there is rust prematurely developing, hidden somewhere in the chassis.
What is the build quality with the chassis like ? IE : Contact points were rust is most likely too start attacking the metal frame.
Show evidence of a rusty chassis matters.BYD in China for a long time, never seen the Seal ‘s chassis rust problem. If the Gasoline car chassis rusts, it will not affect driving safety in the short term. Electric vehicle chassis rust means disaster, because the battery is inside the chassis. a professional world number one electric vehicle manufacturer will make what you call that simple mistake?😂😅
Seriously give it up.
They should scare GM,
Ford and Stilantis. Nice review
Is the towing video up yet?
Im a Tesla guy and a car enthusiast. Great review and enjoyable watch.
I cant agree with the styling inside or outside of this car... also the piano black and delay on that big screen arent good.
Love to see a model 3 Highland LR review.
There's no delay on the screen!
And BYD's cameras are well ahead of Tesla's.
@@remakeit2628 there is... and they aren't...
BYDs are known to have fast and responsive screens, really. You can't find a single review confirming your claim.
@mattg5303 You are either blind or stupid.
And you have never owned both or you would know!
@@remakeit2628 Never mind teslabois...I mean, the M3 does not even have real sensors, front camera or 360 camera. Also, I have tested the UI myself. There is no lag. And Android Auto is extremely fast an nice on such a big screen.
Turn == Rotate, otherwise, quite a good review, well done. I am still waiting for my High Performance Series 3 BMW Electric Estate replacement. Adaptive Suspension and Steering are a must. Also you didn't mention a HUD or not.
