I received v1.2 and it was only recently I learned about using 3 fingers to swipe right/left for fan speed and up/down for temp control - what a game-changer! As a customer I wouldn't want to see a normal tablet in the place of my infotainment system. It makes me feel like the car manufacturer just went to another company and bought a few tablets from them and then tweaked the tablets for them to work with the car. And the BYD is a great example of this. You can clearly see all the characteristics of an android tablet from the drop down menu to the home buttons to the return button and all the icons etc... And this is where other companies like Mercedes and BMW for example excel at, they give you a screen that makes you think it was made by the car company.
good improvement on the "alerts" but more work to do on the "drive assistant".... saying so a big bug at the very end, when you are behind the bus with the 40kmh sign at the back the speed limit in the car changed and when you overtook the bus it stay at 40
Customer service answered my query about the speed warning system with this: Due to Australian Traffic Regulations it needs to be reset every ignition cycle. They went on to say that there is potential for an incident if it isn't turned on automatically. Isn't there exponentially more potential for an incident if someone is fiddling around in menus trying to turn something off? If it worked 100% of the time, fine, but it's still scanning incorrect speed signs and pestering you while you're not even speeding 🤷
@@Cam-uo8ey tbh I can see why they asking so but, as you said, if this change everytime a random signal is popping out in the street, like the bus in the video, the car will start beeping for no reason... they can easily play around it with a simple message when you tick che option off like "Australia's law require this option ON at all time if avaialble, turn it off permanently at your own risk and responsability" or similar and that's it..... Another thing, if fiddling will became a sefety issue any Tesla will be banned immediately lol
I've also updated. The traffic sign recognition beeping and tolerance is MUCH better. To the extent that I'll keep it on - at least for a while - but I'm thinking it is going to be ok. The Emergency Lane control thingy seemed to be much improved once my Seal had its 5K service where radar and other sensors were updated. I've left that on for a while now. Thanks for the video!
Tom, Did you also get the BYD Assistant pop up with 500mb update language file? I had 2310, which had all features but today it updated to 1.1. After all update done the Assistant popped up notifying me of update to English language, and to connect to wifi

On the instrument cluster, do you know how to put the small square with the vehicle distance from other vehicles and obstacles in the centre of the cluster permanently?
does the lane assist work over 130km/h now ?? because it would just cut at 131km/h and because the cruise control can't keep a steady 130 and it oscillate between 129 and 131, it cuts every 5 seconds... and that makes the car absolutely unusable on highway trips
Hi - big fan of your channel - anticipating my Seal to arrive to Denmark in May - can't wait :-) One question, probably more relevant after the latest SW update: Would you find it easy to have the Seal along at a driv-in theatre, where you'd typically want the car to be on to hear the movie sound, but you don't want any lights to distract fellow moviegoers?
With this update; the daytime running lights can be switched off when the car is idle so yes you should be able to hear the audio from the drive in movie without disturbing other patrons 👍
The 2401 version number does not always align to the V1.1 versioning. I have been trying to figure this out for some time but nobody seems to have a clear answer.
I'll be posting regular reviews on my channel so stay tuned. I'm yet to experience a sudden deceleration or swerve yet from the emergency lane assist since the update ... but of course it's still early days
@@LudicrousFeedI updated my car to 2401 today. I noticed the front traffic cross alert is a lot more sensitive than previously (2308). Did you notice that as well?
After this update (Israel) I can turn off the sign notification alert and it will not turn on again. Also did you encounter the Apple CarPlay incoming call bug? It will close it while on a call, hope they will fix that.
Hi, I recently hired an Atto 3 and we found it very comfortable to drive around here in Brisbane. Would you say the Seal is as comfortable as the atto 3?
I am in India and the Seal has been launched here but the deliveries have not started yet. They claim that it has wireless Android auto although the Apple car play is wired. My question is that does your car have wireless Android auto? Thank you!

seems like the touch screen isn't all that responsive.. several times you try and use it, you need to press multiple times also, the sound from this video, you could really hear the road noice, from the undulations in the road, and driving over the cats eyes etc
Can't disagree, the touch screen is not the most responsive. If anyone's ever driven on the M2 motorway, the road surface is in a serious state of disrepair sadly despite the toll imposed on the user ... hard for any car to fully insulate the road noise coming through
Hi Tom Thanks for the video Can you or your viewers tell me why EV's only have one rear reversing light compared to ICE cars that always have 2 I have checked with other EV owner's of different cars and all appear to have only one light Cheers Allan
Hey your videos are very much appreciated. I just have one question for you. It’s been 3 weeks now since your software update review and are you still happy with the new improvements to the ADAS system in particular the emergency lane assist (the one that was downright dangerous) and sending people out of their lanes? This has been the only sticking point for me when it comes to buying one of these vehicles. Thanks again and your insights are much appreciated.
Yes 3 weeks later and things remain stable. Haven't had any unwanted evasive "emergency" manoeuvres since this software update despite leaving the ADAS settings untouched for each drive 🤞
Yup for sure worth another test drive! It’s a lot closer now given the recent OTA update. Might be worth watching my video one more time 😁: 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland Update vs BYD Seal Premium Australia th-cam.com/video/YAaKVAST3w4/w-d-xo.html
BYD just needs to add a short cut for seat position in the Seal, a physical button would've been better, I'm 5'11 and my wife is 5'1 so going to be interesting when I pick up the car in a few weeks
Can someone please tell me what sort of portable charger cable i should get for my Seal, in order to utilise those public chargers that don't come with a cable? 2 to 2? Im new to all of this, so have patience. Thanks in advance.

Yep you don't need to turn off ADAS any more! Also seems to me in reverse when you lift off the brake the car moves backwards at a nice pace without using accelerator. PS (Tom knows) you can make a shortcut to switch regen as well as turning off speed sign recognition. One swipe then press. Shame most reviewers are not like Tom and don't do their homework. Not sure if this update fixed no traction from AWD front wheels in snow but it's on the way.
@LudicrousFeed this is in addition to the v1.2 a few weeks ago, might have been a minor system background update as I don't see anything obviously different
Thanks for your quick reply … it’ll be a steep learning curve, I think! Only reason for me changing is after the three year warranty period expires you can be faced with rather large service bills and I get a little nervous, so I swap every three years. All the Best !!!
Hey Tom, curious how you installed dab+ on. I don't have that on mine and even your typical radio button looks different to my one, curious if you did any app installed through the usb
🤷♂️ I had it from the very beginning … watch my earlier infotainment walkthrough vid: BYD Seal Infotainment System Walkthrough and Instrument Cluster Screen th-cam.com/video/mXxxVmETNdw/w-d-xo.html
Daytime running lights already exist in my 2310. But I have 2310 and 1.1. Vehicle prompt source is also same low volume. Also, the speed sign alert is same low. I noticed it was lower in my 2310 from test vehicles that used 2309. So I guess all these settings are more related to 1.1 than 2310. Would be interesting to know how versions are related.
Hi Tom, great info as usual. I have a Tesla M3 long range and a Tesla MY standard. Been thinking about swapping the M3 to a BYD seal Preformance or premium. What did you miss changing from M3 to seal? In hindsight, would you pick performance or premium again?
I’d still pick the Premium as it represents the best value between the three imo. There’s no doubt the Tesla supercharger network is still currently the best provider and although some of them can be used by non-Tesla vehicles, the ease of the plug and play experience when used by a Tesla vehicle is unmatched. Also, Tesla’s UX is hard to beat when it comes to navigating the infotainment screen and they are to be commended to take on board years of feedback from owners. BYD will hopefully make its own system more user friendly with subsequent updates. Finally the Tesla Nav/trip planning is best in market imo
I'm quite curious about this too. The premium version is supposed to have longer range than the awd version. I own the premium version and at 100% my range is 570km. How do you get it to be 625km?
Thanks. Great update. Woul you know what might be the latest software version for the Dolphin? I have the premium and was hoping if there is a latest update it will also improve the ADAS in the dolphin.
I'd like to buy/order a BYD car instead of a Tesla. How can I do that? I like the technology of BYD and the in-dash odometer behind the steering wheel.
Tom noted in a previous video that his charger when set to 'solar only' was artificially constrained to around 3.5kW despite more power being available form the solar system. I experienced a similar issue with my charger (different brand). Am happy to report that this update appears to have resolved that issue. Can anyone confirm?
I’ve worked it out since that video. My Wallbox charger is a 3-phase charger so any excess solar will be split into 3 hence why the charge was less than expected … but I will try again after this update to confirm

it's probably going to be pretty bad with EV prices expected to continue to drop battery materials seem to be getting cheaper all the time and now sodium ion is making it's way onto chinese road with both chinese and europe production ramping up and iterating on new generations of the tech on the other side of the equation you have production capacity and demand, tesla looks pretty tight but no idea about byd also i think tesla full self driving with it's AI approach and ever increasing machine learning data feeds will be unrivalled and potentially ramp up resale prices when it's released, especially with cheap battery retro fits - could be an opportunity for cheap 2nd hand teslas before then
The low pedestrian sound still doesn’t help with the number of pedestrians who just don’t look, with the update there is a lot of difference, BYD have tried to answer customer complaints without risking safety
Getting my Seal AWD in the next couple of days. Trading my bmw M8 in and just to let you know, although it’s not an EV it sticks to the road and lane change and keeps you in the lane all the time. You can take your hands off the wheel for about 30 secs then each side of the steering wheel goes yellow and a bleep to remind you to put your hands back on the steering.you can just add one finger for one second and it’s takes over again. If you ignore the flashing wheel in yellow then it bleeps louder and turns to red. Ignore this and it automatically pulls you into the side of the road and stops. It thinks you may have collapsed at the wheel. I can drive like this permanently on motorways or even country roads sticking between the lines constantly. What a fantastic system that I’ve always loved…. I do hope BYD gets to this stage. Love your videos here in the UK … keep up your great work !!
Forgot to ask… ordered my front dash cam, but nowhere have I read can you also get the rear DashCam as well, or do you have to purchase another make . (BYD Seal Excellence AWD). Thanks again !!!
@@stevehodgson7487 Thanks! I wouldn’t pin your hopes on the ICC too much … it’s ok on the highways but I’d keep my eye on it There’s no rear dash cam unfortunately so you’ll have to purchase a separate third party system
I don't own a BYD but I have seen many reviews now including several of yours. One thing that concerns me about all vehicles with these infotainment screens is the distraction caused by working through menus while driving to turn off features that are intrusive or poorly calibrated. In my view this can be dangerous for the driver and others on the road. The solutions as I see them are either the ability to turn off features is unavailable while the car is in motion or the vehicle needs a voice activated assistant. I believe one version of the BYD has such a feature and some basic functions such as increasing/deceasing the fan speed, increasing/decreasing the temperature and raising or lowering the window can be done by instructing the voice assistant. Other features such as turn off speed sign alert could be turned off this way if necessary rather than by the driver navigating screens and menus. It would be a big improvement.
The 2310 that we have, is very ambient light sensitive and the big scree can go dark just going under a bridge on a bright day……..too sensitive for my liking.
The UX of the system feels like a tablet which is useless in a car screen. See Volvo/Polestar/Geely's implementation which is awesome. If the screen is like tablet UI then it feels like an aftermarket fitted system which does not speak about quality. They need to use Android Automotive like Volvo/Polestar/Geely.
You’ve got to be petty out of touch with reality as a business to even contemplate charging for software updates 😂 what’s made worse is the BYD interface is honestly terrible. Hopefully they don’t charge for updates but if they do I won’t touch one and I’d go as far as selling the car if I owned one and they started.
who buy a BYD for its intelligent driving? BYD is the worst in all most all Chinese EVs. But BYD recruited over 7000 engineers to tackle the problem. Hopefully will be better in 3 years.

Thanks! You can’t set the volume but it’s definitely lower than before the update
Very nice vid, thanks 🙏
Glad you liked it!
Can you load profiles like the Tesla? For example. Person A is driving, clicks on profile then it’s all setup for them? That would be a smart way for BYD of doing things. Enter your car, select profile and have everything off if youve saved it
No profiles at this stage … the only thing close to that is 2x memory storage slots for seat position. Hopefully in a future software update 🙏
About following closer you have 3 distance settings you control on the steering wheel.
Yes and I was already on the closest 👍
@@LudicrousFeed let's hope they tweak that to be more aggressive then!
Thanks Tom. Hopefully BYD are starting to sort out the distracting and sometimes dangerous ADAS issues, and also allow you to prefigure it so you don't have to go through the rigmarole of turning it off every time you drive the car.
It’s night and day. I will be leaving the default settings on with this update
Thanks for anothee great video! Does the music in Android Auto and/or Carplay pauses still when you use other app?
Not when you go back to the Home Screen but if another audio source is playing then yes
Regarding the browser, can it be operated while driving? Can bookmarks be pinned as homescreen shortcuts?
No the browser doesn’t work while the vehicle is in motion
Coincidentally today my BMW iX also got a software update today. It’s been like 7 months since the last one.
Woohoo! 🥳
is there any news regarding still throttle response lag? Does it still exist?
Slight lag yes
I received v1.2 and it was only recently I learned about using 3 fingers to swipe right/left for fan speed and up/down for temp control - what a game-changer!
I just updated to v1.2.1 on July 25th & have asked BYD if there is a way to tell what's in it? They said technically it's v1.3 and includes things like the 3 finger swipe mentioned previously.
Errrrrr, no. Does anybody know how to tell what's included in any update so I can take advantage of any new features?
@@dalepurton8118 there’s a small link to the software release notes within the upgrade instructions. I posted via my X and FB accounts a screenshot in case you missed it 👍
Have you tried to watch TH-cam using the browser?
I have and it works … in 4K 😱😁
@@LudicrousFeed Wow, that's great!! At least an alternative for native apps. I presume it is like any other browser which we can use to surf internet, FB, insta, X and etc.
Well said. We’ll see what future software updates bring with regards to better integration 🙏
Total agree.
BYD make Apple IPads and IPhones, amounts other many google android/Huawei/Xiaomi products!
good improvement on the "alerts" but more work to do on the "drive assistant".... saying so a big bug at the very end, when you are behind the bus with the 40kmh sign at the back the speed limit in the car changed and when you overtook the bus it stay at 40
Yup unfortunately not an issue comfined to the BYD ADAS - other press cars I’ve driven are similar in that regard
Customer service answered my query about the speed warning system with this:
Due to Australian Traffic Regulations it needs to be reset every ignition cycle.
It’s up to the OEMs to get the balance right between safety and usability
Pleasure and agreed! So much better
Did the software update add wireless Apple Carplay?
Sadly no
Tom, Did you also get the BYD Assistant pop up with 500mb update language file? I had 2310, which had all features but today it updated to 1.1. After all update done the Assistant popped up notifying me of update to English language, and to connect to wifi
Yes I also got that notification which I’m also yet to do
Congratulations and thank you for this video from Italy. After this software update, is there still throttle response lag?
Yes slight lag remains even in Sport Mode
@@LudicrousFeed Thank you very much Tom!
I hope it will be eliminated with a software update as soon as possible. I found this very annoying during my test drive . If they remove the lag I'll buy it.😎
On the instrument cluster, do you know how to put the small square with the vehicle distance from other vehicles and obstacles in the centre of the cluster permanently?
Hmm I don’t think it can be done
Mine did it today on its own then after I stopped and got back in it didn't come back, it must be possible somehow@@LudicrousFeed
does the lane assist work over 130km/h now ?? because it would just cut at 131km/h and because the cruise control can't keep a steady 130 and it oscillate between 129 and 131, it cuts every 5 seconds... and that makes the car absolutely unusable on highway trips
For those in Australia, I don’t recommend driving over the highway legal speed limit of 110kph
@@LudicrousFeed haha yes I forgot about that sorry XDDD yeah we don't have a lot of these here so no way to know these kinds of infos..
The new version of SEAL EV definitely addressed that issue.
Just clocked over 5k on my odometer, booked for service at prospect, have you had a chance to go in for your initial service just yet?
Stay tuned, video dropping soon …
are you driving with sport mode all the time ?
Yup! Far more fun 😁
Yeah agreed it’s a strange way to catalogue the firmware/software versions 🤷♂️
Does your multimedia screen have a browser?
Yes watch at 6:16
Would be nice to see you updating this after 1 month of driving. Hopefully phantom braking gets improved also.
Hmm I haven’t encountered the incoming call issue yet but will monitor …
Do you know if this applies at EU too?
Aus removed the light color trim option from some of the external color variants!
That’s a shame
Is it me, or is that screen protector numbing out your touch sensitivity somewhat? You look to be struggling to tap on things at times
It was pretty similar pre-protector if you watch my earlier vids

Hmm not at this stage … that would be handy. Hopefully a future update to the App will fix that
Hi, I recently hired an Atto 3 and we found it very comfortable to drive around here in Brisbane. Would you say the Seal is as comfortable as the atto 3?
I dare say even more so 😁
@@LudicrousFeed thanks...I definitely need to test drive one!
Seriously considering this car but I can fit my golf clubs in the boot?
You’ll have to bring your clubs to the showroom 😁
A lot of double pushing to have some of the functions operable, is this normal.
Not sure if it’s just my fingers lol but yes sometimes a few taps are required … I wonder if software can fix the responsiveness 🤔
Strange l found lane assist improved, taking hands off the wheel and steered through corners like my previous ICE car.Agree much improved, had too!
Good to hear!
I am in India and the Seal has been launched here but the deliveries have not started yet. They claim that it has wireless Android auto although the Apple car play is wired. My question is that does your car have wireless Android auto? Thank you!
Yes can confirm wireless Android Auto as per Aus BYD spec sheet: bydautomotive.com.au/brochures/BYD-SEAL-2023.pdf
Thank you!
Thank you. I still have version 2301, my BYD tells me I have the latest version. I notice on my version I have the new features of the 2401 version, like the User Manual and the on-off for Daylight Running Lights. and the new apps like Amazon Music. Do you know if there are different versions of the update that add the "new" items
Do you mean 2309 or 2310?
I think they mean 2310. I have that too, but it also updated this morning now to 1.1. Slightly different as didn't list features as already have them. My car after update also prompted to update BYD Assistant language file, was 500mb update
@@azzanzYes that is exactly what I meant and mine also upgraded this morning
seems like the touch screen isn't all that responsive.. several times you try and use it, you need to press multiple times
also, the sound from this video, you could really hear the road noice, from the undulations in the road, and driving over the cats eyes etc
Can't disagree, the touch screen is not the most responsive. If anyone's ever driven on the M2 motorway, the road surface is in a serious state of disrepair sadly despite the toll imposed on the user ... hard for any car to fully insulate the road noise coming through
@@LudicrousFeed yeah my Tesla model 3 screen is way better.
The good ol M2. I grew up in baulkham Hills, travelled that road many a time
Hi Tom Thanks for the video Can you or your viewers tell me why EV's only have one rear reversing light compared to ICE cars that always have 2 I have checked with other EV owner's of different cars and all appear to have only one light Cheers Allan
Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe ADRs follow EU standards closely in that only 1x Reverse light is required. The Tesla 3/Y has 2x reverse lights
I have a 2021 LR Model 3 and it only has the 1 reverse light on the left side Dose you 2023/4 model have 2 ? Cheers @@LudicrousFeed
The later model Tesla Model 3/Y vehicles have 2 reverse lights now
Hey your videos are very much appreciated.
Thankyou for the quick reply. Looks like we’ll now be ordering a Seal this week
Hi, any idea when this update will come to Thailand?
I'm still on the fence trying to decide between this and the new Tesla M 3LR. Need to book a test drive for both.
Yup for sure worth another test drive! It’s a lot closer now given the recent OTA update. Might be worth watching my video one more time 😁: 2024 Tesla Model 3 RWD Highland Update vs BYD Seal Premium Australia

@LudicrousFeed Thanks buddy, your videos have been hugely informative, way more so than any others I've watched on TH-cam. I'll give that a go.
BYD just needs to add a short cut for seat position in the Seal, a physical button would've been better, I'm 5'11 and my wife is 5'1 so going to be interesting when I pick up the car in a few weeks
That would be such an awesome shortcut
Good to see Russian is already in the language system.

Yes there are some nice adjustments in this update
I just had another update today, v1.2.1. Anyone know what it does?
Can’t wait to test it
@LudicrousFeed this is in addition to the v1.2 a few weeks ago, might have been a minor system background update as I don't see anything obviously different
the emergency breaking is the biggest issue!!! the car picks up other cars which are not even close and it hits the breaks!!
That seems to have improved for me so far … 🤞
Thanks for your quick reply … it’ll be a steep learning curve, I think!
Only reason for me changing is after the three year warranty period expires you can be faced with rather large service bills and I get a little nervous, so I swap every three years.
All the Best !!!
3 years is a reasonable amount of time imo
Hey Tom, curious how you installed dab+ on. I don't have that on mine and even your typical radio button looks different to my one, curious if you did any app installed through the usb

Nice. I was on 2309 previously so happy to have DRL toggle 😃
Hi, off topic. saw the dashboard 100% range 625km on Sport Mode for performance?
Does this mean if Eco/Standard can get more range?
Yup. It's estimated 650km for Normal mode
@@LudicrousFeed ok if AWD the range is lower.
@@nizarmohd4176 Yes the dual motor variant has a lower projected range
I'm quite curious about this too. The premium version is supposed to have longer range than the awd version. I own the premium version and at 100% my range is 570km. How do you get it to be 625km?
Thanks. Great update. Woul you know what might be the latest software version for the Dolphin? I have the premium and was hoping if there is a latest update it will also improve the ADAS in the dolphin.
Hmm surely an update will also come to the Dolphin … 🤞
As a Performance owner, would love an update that AWD fully works.
I’m sure it will be released soon
Already addressed in this update I believe
Not yet in Australia, had latest update at the dealer for my first three month service 20 th March.
I'd like to buy/order a BYD car instead of a Tesla. How can I do that? I like the technology of BYD and the in-dash odometer behind the steering wheel.
In Australia, you can order directly from the BYD Automotive website. Otherwise head into a local showroom
@@LudicrousFeed My system is only single phase so that was not the issue here - good luck.
Hi mate great update. May i know whats the depreciation of EV compared to ICE vehicles in Australia? Thanks
Thanks! The same resale logic applies to EVs as it does for ICE cars. Buy a popular car and it will retain its value. I’ve disposed of two Teslas in the past - one sold privately and another via trade in. I’ve walked away happy on both occasions:

it's probably going to be pretty bad with EV prices expected to continue to drop
battery materials seem to be getting cheaper all the time and now sodium ion is making it's way onto chinese road with both chinese and europe production ramping up and iterating on new generations of the tech
on the other side of the equation you have production capacity and demand, tesla looks pretty tight but no idea about byd
also i think tesla full self driving with it's AI approach and ever increasing machine learning data feeds will be unrivalled and potentially ramp up resale prices when it's released, especially with cheap battery retro fits - could be an opportunity for cheap 2nd hand teslas before then
The low pedestrian sound still doesn’t help with the number of pedestrians who just don’t look, with the update there is a lot of difference, BYD have tried to answer customer complaints without risking safety
Kudos to BYD indeed. Yes despite having normal hearing, some people just don’t hear …
I see that the Speed meter is not that jumpy anymore.
It’s a great update
I hope I can get this for the Dolphin before long !

So ICC is currently NSICC?
It’s all Level 2 autonomy anyway across most of the press cars I’ve tested - nothing is self driving, not by a long shot

This car also has a voice activated feature for some of the functions you mentioned and more … I’ll probably explore it further in a future video 🙏
Thanks for responding to my comment. I look forward to that video. As I said I think all cars should have such a feature.@@LudicrousFeed
There is also a customizable quick menu on the dash panel that could be accessed with right hand side thumb wheel on the steering.
No need. Just speak out. Hi BYD, set the temperature at 23 degrees.

terribly archaic attitude to driving these days tbh
The UX of the system feels like a tablet which is useless in a car screen. See Volvo/Polestar/Geely's implementation which is awesome. If the screen is like tablet UI then it feels like an aftermarket fitted system which does not speak about quality. They need to use Android Automotive like Volvo/Polestar/Geely.
IMHO, Android Automotive Volvo/PS EVs is second only to Tesla when it comes to integration especially with EV trip planning
for free? that's ominous.
Hopefully it stays free 😬
Yeah that's so strange, never seen an update that isn't free. Unless they mean it won't cost your monthly data allowance?
You’ve got to be petty out of touch with reality as a business to even contemplate charging for software updates 😂 what’s made worse is the BYD interface is honestly terrible. Hopefully they don’t charge for updates but if they do I won’t touch one and I’d go as far as selling the car if I owned one and they started.
