War for Cybertron got the physics JUST RIGHT. You can hit a ramp as a car. Transform into robot in mid-air. And then continue that momentum by sliding on your feet when you landed, while shooting. It was *perfect.*
You guys aware the MP + escalation servers are back online across all TF games? The team behind all this is TF-re-energized! 🙌 They’re here on YT and on discord. Everyday new people join in, all of us round up and play!
This and Fall of Cybertron were my childhood. I have so many fond memories of staying up late trying to get high rounds in escalation. Great retrospective, by the way. Great to see people still remember this game.
Because it's not a game, nor is it simply a movie, granted it is "THE" movie we all have wanted, It is a work of art, a literal Shakespearean theater piece come to the consoles,
I actually did find out that trypticon's size is fairly consistent with the orbital station, he's about double the size of omega supreme when comparing the two side by side; I think the reason why he looks smaller is because he's crouching down
The multiplayer was so good. Spent so much time in this game. I’ll never forget reaching higher waves on escalation or the glitch at Broken Hope to open certain doors.
One of my favorite things to do was zoom up to a platform as a scout in vehicle mood, jump, transform and double jump, and then transform again on the landing. It was such a smooth experience that it was a great way to escape pursuers.
@@ignotiev ik what u mean. Scout was my best class. I would zoom jump do the barrel roll transform at the peak then sometimes it’d let u jump again. Good times. Felt like a movie
These games have forever shaped the lore and the history of Transformers, from it’s amazing plot, and it’s sequel series, which characterize Megatron as a Revolutionary turned Tyrannt, I hope Reactivate lives to be almost to hopefully as great as War for/ Fall of Cybertron
Megatron as a revolutionary started earlier than these games. It was first done in IDW's 'Megatron: Origins' comic. That said, the Aligned continuity established it as the standard Megatron origin going forward.
showing Warhammer 40k space marine at 1:50 as a "gears of war clone" couldn't be a more bizarre comparison. space marine doesn't even have a cover system
I will never understand why Hasbro hasn’t done a movie about the cyberteonian civil war. Everyone lost their mind when Bumblebee 2018 had a WFC scene at the beginning and for good reason
@@lucas-kr7xd it was probably on steam before it got delisted but if you want to play it get RPCS3 and go to Vimms Lair and just search transformers up it has this game and every other one there
Really well made retrospective! One thing I just want to mention is that thanks to the user DarkElement that is also on the ReEnergized server managed to transfer DLC maps for online modes and DLC characters to the PC version of the game which is really amazing to experience since I didn't get those on my ps3 version before they were delisted.
Don't know if this has been commented already, but on pc there is a popular FPS unlock tool that lets you play up to 120 frames. Instantly brings this game to modern standard and maybe beyond! One of my absolute favorite titles of PS3 era
For the energon repair ray characters in the campaign, like Soundwave or Thundercracker for example, can use it for their special ability with the floating turret. They take a lot of damage so staying close to it to heal it is ideal.
The PC version of WFC did in fact have a physical release, I have it. Unfortunately disk drives are not that common on PCs anymore, which left it unplayable for me lol.
They really need to do a remastered dual pack of these games, or just full on remake them. Imagine what they would look like in 4K with Unreal Engine 5 and on PS5 the adaptive triggers and rumble would be insane.
This game and Fall of Cybertron were literally my entire childhood. Must have lost thousands of hours to the multiplayer across both games. Genuinely breaks my heart that we never got another one, and that High Moon are nothing but a support studio for COD games now.
I played on the PS3. I loved the multiplayer so much. While the maps were a little generic, the combat was very intense and very fun. While there was one or two things that I liked that were added in Fall of Cybertron, I felt the attempt at simplifying combat was a mistake. It's my hope that with the arrival of Transformers One next year that Hasbro might consider making an MMO game set on Cybertron or across multiple planets.
Incredible games loved the feel fall of cyber torn was incredible and hearing ‘the touch’ made me tear up. Playing as Dinobots in multiplayer. Loved it
I would rank the campaign a B. It was really solid, I loved the third-person shooter setup that emphasized mobility and the use of your robot abilities (including "changing form") to gain a tactical advantage rather than just bog-standard fire-and-motion tactics. And the story and characters were well done, akin to one of the Transformers comics, with recognizable characters displaying personalities faithful to the G1 originals. It's really sad that what I had feared would happen when I played this game has come to pass; and the servers were shut down rendering multiplayer impossible except for those who go out of their way for an unofficial multiplayer setup using DNS spoofing. This and Titanfall 2 are in the category of those games that deserve to live forever, like Doom does.
I had the pleasure of playing with the leader on the scoreboard or whatever it was called. This game was really fun and I think BF3 followed after. Great times.
Both the campaigns and online matches for war and fall of cybertron were before their time! Definitely would love a comeback of the same game mechanics on the new gen graphics
A few years ago, I bought fall of cybertron at gamestop, and when I opened the case, I got the download code for war for cybertron. Literally the best purchase of my life.
I think that, with evidence from the concept art, the final fight arena with Trypticon was originally meant to be far larger to accommodate a fight with him at a more consistent scale
Don't know if anyone's posted this comment, but there is a physical release for PC, but its difficult to find as far as I'm aware and still reasonably priced (paid $20 for mine on ebay about a year ago)
It's loved because you get to fight Omega f'n Supreme in an arena. I remember just before this game came out, all anyone could talk about was how Megatron rose up to Omega's ankle.
This is the cartoon and movie transformer fans wanted to be honest. Would like to see them make a canon version of the original script that was supposed to be done for the og movie. Would like if they had a build your own bot type thing.
Thanks for mentioning the DS versions! I grew up on those before getting it on the Xbox 360. I remember having so much fun as a kid on the ds versions, I still have the deception one today but I’ve grown out of it sadly. I’ll still go back to it one day I’m sure. PS: I know you didn’t put that at C???? 😟
Its crazy how they made 2 of the greatest movie tie-in games (X-Men Origines: Wolverine and Dark of the Moon) Not many game development studios can say the same
Yo, I remember playing as Grimlock in this game and just whooping the shit out of Shockwave! Edit: I realize now that might've been Fall of Cybertron... still a memorable series of games. Trailers were hype!
I just got out my Xbox 360 the other day and first thing I did was see if any of my transformer games worked sadly 2 don’t but but the cybertron games still work thankfully and I’m playing both from start to finish to just feel how good it was to play
I was there for this game's prime (Hah). The Multiplayer was fun but not my favourite (FoC is the best TF multiplayer). The Campaign was good and co-op was a great time. What took this game over the edge was the Escalation mode. I can't tell you how many days I've spent in Escalation alone. It might be my favourite "horde" mode in any game. The maps, the difficulty scaling, the character choices that could make any match unique and most importantly the glitches. Breaking through the spawn walls as a car/jet Transformer. The ability to open doors out of sequence on some maps, break out of the maps and explore. Nothing has ever captured that magic again. Maybe it's because this was before TH-cam was huge but discovering all of these back in the day was crazy.
1:50 is space marine really a gears of war clone? Id argue it has much ot the same strength that the transformers games had. You cant even actually take cover in space marine
I say for experience too that performance issues hinder my experience a lot. I’ve been through 2 classes into maya and a lot of teachers and assistant say if you are making a model or animation. Less is always better especially a game. If you put less models in a scene the less time the game doesn’t have to optimize and can run better. To be honest, if wfc probably polish their models by doing decreasing facing or vertices (or whatever they can.) Then yeah I think the performance issue would’ve been fixed and especially on consoles like ps3 and Xbox didn’t have the capability to run a game like this at the best performance at the time. Where a pc probably has the better to run the game. Also I didn’t like how slow the robot to alt mode it took. Other than that really solid game and I think people should play it and I hope they open the multi player servers again if they put it on ps5/Xbox (they have the codes really to go for remaster the game but I think it is a copyright issue) 😊🙏
The game really struggles to hold even 30fps on the Xbox 360. Is the PC version locked to 30fps? The games delisted now so I couldn't play that version, but I heard it wasn't a very good port.
