    Dee, I just had my second round of taxol with herceptin. I didn't want to watch before. I just wanted to thank you for sharing your experiences. Now, I'm going to watch this video! (I had 1 tumor ER+, another tumor in other breast HER2+. Had DMX & DIEP, started chemo 2 months later.)

    I know that being on Taxol can be tiring, but it is so much better than AC. Keep up the strong fight. You got this Dee.

    I know this an old video, but I just finished up AC starting Taxol 8/2 I haven't been able to eat much of anything that taste good at all. Taste is extremely altered, will it get better or worse with taxol?.

    I know that when I had treatment for my breast cancer, taking care of my young kids (ages 4,6,8 at that time) was very difficult. To be honest, going through it again, and taking care of my kids (now ages 12,14,16) is still very hard. But a different kind of hard. So I was wondering, how are you handeling chemo, with such young children? And how are they handleing you being sick/tired/in pain, while on treatment?

    • @DeeDoherty
      @DeeDoherty  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tammy Grosso my eldest is 5 - he’s up and down with it. He’s very emotional in general (all emotions, lots of love to give) so he goes to see a play therapist about the whole cancer situation which I think helps him to just get out any worries he has.
      He asks me lots of questions and I try to be as honest as I can without scaring him “how did you get your cancer” - I tell him the truth that I did things that put me at a risk of cancer like smoking (I had quit and he didn’t actually know I smoked) and I tell him people can be born with it - but only mommies! Because I don’t want him thinking he has it, not when he’s only 5!
      The two year old is totally fine .. doesn’t care at all!
      My husband and my parents are a super support system for my bad days after chemo and then I manage after that - they keep me busy ;)
      I’d imagine the treatment took its toll on you the first time, which is something I fear too. Even if I was able to have more kids - I think I’d be afraid to after all this! The fear of a return of the cancer is too much.
      I think with the older kids it could almost be harder though? They can understand what’s happening - a lot of fears and anxieties of their own. They want to socialize (and want mom to drive them!) ... they can get hormonal and argue with it even when they don’t mean to. School is more important you feel guilty if they are missing it! I definitely feel for you having the older ones now!!
      Xx

      @@DeeDoherty All the best! How can you stand chemo? I have always said that I would rather die than have chemo, however, is it that bad? I have heard that adriamicin is dreadful. You just kick cancers butt! Please reply to me, love to you and your lovely kids, Donna.

      I went through treatment for Hodgkin's lymphoma in the mid-90s. My son was three, my step-children were 10 and 12. I think the older kids handled it better, because they could have some conception of what was going on. I know at times my son was very confused and frightened. I'd suggest having as frank and open conversation with your children as you can. They see and hear probably more than you think, and addressing things directly, as much as possible, I think helps.

      @@DeeDoherty ooh ok i see. Did u end up wearing a wig during your chemo or just a head scarf? How comfortable was the wig?

    • @DeeDoherty
      @DeeDoherty  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tara Clerkin I wore my wig twice. Once all my hair was gone I went around bald all the time. I wore my little chemo cap or a head scarf in public places like tesco or whatever for the sake of others. But I embraced the bald and I still shave the sides of my head now!
