    Hey Mags-very helpful tips for the chemo transition from hair to no-hair. I found two other tips that you might want to add: 1). Use a #2 attachment when shaving the head.This reduces the chance of getting in-grown hairs and leaves a little length. 2). A small “sticky” lint brush seems to help rid the head of stray hairs or or hairs likely to fall out soon. after washing my scalp, I just roll the lint bush around my head going against the grain of the hair. Quick and easy! Wishing you a full and complete recovery!

I was going to shave my head smooth after the clipper buzzcut just to make it “even” and not patchy (4 chemo sessions so far), but I never considered the possibility of ingrown hairs….so thankfully I watched this just in time! I struggled with dry scalp before chemo so after I had a barber shave my hair to a fine buzz cut I've used shea and cocoa butter lotion. It's inexpensive and it feels great!

      I use a soft body brush, with shampoo, and gently exfoliate my scalp, rinse and apply Argan oil. It’s what I used prior to chemo. Exfoliation helps when your hair starts to grow back. Best of luck on your cancer journey!

    I remember when my ex said "if we could figure out why proteins fold, we might be able to come up with a medication that differentiates between the protein in hair and the protein in cancer cells."
    I had no clue what he was talking about. He got a doctoral degree in 7 years from a fancy University. I asked him what he was thinking about one night. It was during our quiet time and that's what was on his mind. My thoughts, by comparison, seemed pretty silly, so I never told him what I was thinking.
    To this day, I don't know what proteins folding has to do with anything, much less cancer.
    But they're trying to stop me from getting in situ cancer. I wish I would have asked him more, tho I probably wouldn't have understood. I know the phrase, proteins fold, though and I learned that rinsing something in really cold water makes them "un-fold." That's how I get my glasses rinsed of milk so well. He told me cold water makes the protein in milk "un-fold." Cancer cells are way more complicated than milk.

    Bless you for your information. I'm in chemo now since my diagnosis in July of 2023. I have another session soon and was going to cancel it. The very first treatment, I used the Paxman cold therapy. It didn't work. I lost all of my hair! I am in my sixties and natural products are all I use. I also had an allergic reaction to the first chemo treatment. Which ruined my skin and took forever to clear.

    I’m going through chemo now and my best advice is to shave your head before you begin. I waited and had scalp sores and leaking fluid. It was terrible and itchy. Then I cut my hair out and started washing my scalp more frequently. It feels much better.

    I'm sure other people that had a diagnosis of cancer are watching this. My mum has one so I really think these are information that also family members should know. But as I always say, people in general should know. This taboo about cancer is a thing that has to stop cause there is no shame at all to talk about it and to have it and you can find around supportive people that really give you strength just saying something NICE.
    Not like the stroppy person who decided to wrote the first 2 comments on this video.🤦
    Stroppy people have rights to, but they should share their stroppy ideas with other stroppy human beings. 🙄😁

Scarring alopecia has been a battle for multiple years for me and I have finally made the decision for my long-term hair stylist to donate what hair I have and to shave it all off next Tuesday. I originally was going to get my hair trimmed and a keratin treatment. I've changed it up with her and already talked to her. I am ready to show my scars from multiple surgeries and not be sad about alopecia and all my hair loss. Very few know and my Mom doesn't. It will be a surprise next Tuesday for her. Lol! I've been bald before so I am ready. You are beautiful and worthy. Happy New Year!

    • @MagsBujalski
      @MagsBujalski  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey! I'm obviously not a specialist by any means, I simply share what my experience was. I was recommended not to shave it down to the scalp, but leave about 1 inch of hair so the hair could fall out on its own. It's not the prettiest look, but I did not have any scalp irritation or ingrown hairs! (Which is often the case of you shave right down to the scalp) I did use the products mentioned in the video, but they are only available in Canada (from my understanding). I have heard that gentle baby shampoos can be effective and coconut oil to keep the scalp hydrated! I'm sorry to hear about your sisters illness, sending you both lots of love!

    I wish I had seen your video before I started chemo. My doctor said most women shave their head. I planned to get a buzz cut and thought I had more time, but I had a massive hair loss and I had to cut out a huge mass of hair. But, I’m glad I didn’t shave my head because I have fuzz like yours now and it’s good to know that it’s healthy for my scalp. What do you think about using a scalp exfoliating shampoo? I hope you are well and continue to be well!

    • @MagsBujalski
      @MagsBujalski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used the Capilia shampoo that is tagged in the description box (only available in Canada unfortunately); however, to exfoliate my scalp, while I was in the shower I would take a hand towel, get it wet, and gently rub my head. The remaining hairs would come out on the towel. I did this every day when I showered!

    Thank you for your advice, it has been very helpful to know how to take care of my scalp while going through my treatment. I'm starting my aggressive chemotherapy treatment next week, and I'm pretty anxious and scared about the treatment.

    I have been going thru chemo for 6 months. But i have developed soft painful spots on my head. They are not open sores but they are painful to the touch. Anyone experience this?

    Would the scalp care be different for black women? We don't wash hair everyday so I'm wondering if washing everyday will remove the oil that our scalp needs.

      Black woman here going through chemotherapy. Everything would be the same. I know we don't wash our hair every day, but when bald we don't have any hair. So it's all good. Until it starts coming in, then every couple of days is ok.

    I’ve just shaved my head due to leukaemia I’m 3 weeks into my chemo , I’m just wondering if you lost your eyebrows and eyelashes and how far in if you did ?

    • @MagsBujalski

      I never fully lost my eye brows and eye lashes, but they did thin out toward my last two treatments.
