- This is the penultimate video showing September 4, 2023 of my solo trip to our remote cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. I start by brewing a cup of percolator coffee, split some wood with my "Dick Proenneke Axe," swing a machete, run the chainsaw, get skunked fishing again, and prepare the fire pit area for a fire. All in all, not a bad afternoon!

Thank you for rescuing the dragonfly , love how you are cutting out brush and trees , so can see the water from the cabin, beautiful view behind you , when you were fishing !
No problem, we love dragonflies! Thank you for watching! All of the views out there are beautiful
A beautiful day on a gorgeous lake in complete solitude. I love it! -Dusty
Thank you, Dusty! It was a truly a great day out there. We appreciate you watching
First time viewer and I take it your alone out there?..well for starters you should wear safety gear while using that chainsaw..eye,head and chaps at least eyes and chaps...I think you were carrying a sidearm while fishing very smart..grizzly will kill just as soon as look at you..clearing that brush is smart too..critters hide there too..even two legged ones!..doing good son keep safe and keep em comin!👍💪🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😁
I was alone out there this trip, although there are some full-timers who live out there on the lake and river system. Much appreciated! You're absolutely right about the personal protective equipment. Thank you for watching!
I agree folgers sucks! Good coffee is a must!! Good luck 👍
There are so many better coffee brands out there. In folger's defense, they got the coffee can right🤣 Thank you for watching!
Nice job opening up the views. Be safe
Much appreciated, I'll do my best. Thank you for watching!
LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
much appreciated! I'll be posting one every week for hopefully the next 2 months depending on the amount of editable footage I was able to get. We appreciate you watching and the support!
You sure got a lot of brush cleared, got a nice view of the lake. you got some great pictures on the video. I enjoy watching how you are progressing. fantastic video !
Much appreciated! You'll see even more brush clearing in the next few episodes, too. Gotta open up that view and access to the lake! Thank you for following along!
You are welcome, Good luck with the fishing, there, will you be doing much hunting there?, are there a lot of Deer there?,@@OhashiOutdoors
Not for several years, sadly. I haven't seen any deer or deer sign. The primary game animals are moose, bear, and small game animals like duck, grouse, rabbit, etc.
There are a lot of deer in Wisconsin, a lot get hit on the roads, The semi's really mutilate them good Catch you later, got to check more of your videos.@@OhashiOutdoors
Glad to see yu had a few good days of weather; know the season is changing up there. All the best and stay safe.
Thank you! These past few videos are all filmed on the same day. I wen't a bit crazy with the camera on my first full day up there🤣
killdeer birds put their nest on the ground*if you get near them they will puff up their chest & wings* A couple from Alaska ( Simply Living Alaska) fish for Pike using hotdogs, no kidding right. Thanks for the video
Good to know, I'll do some research and see if I can identify what kind of small birds they were. I tried using hot dog for pike a few times and got some bites, but I wasn't able to set the hook. I did end up finding a lure that work very well in later episodes though, so stick around! Thank you for watching!
Another great video. You will have your place in shape in no time at all. We have a big problem with pine beetles here in Canada too. Mostly in the Rockies. Cheers !
Much appreciated! I've got some interior renovation plans for one of our trips in the next few years, too. Hopefully there's enough lumber timber chainsaw mill size so we don't have to fly too much building material out. Those pine beetles really did a licking on the lumber trees out there!
That is a great idea using your own lumber for milling. Keep it as natural as possible. Cheers!@@OhashiOutdoors
Post script:.. your in pretty good shape a heavier axe will do you better splitting that fire wood..😁👍💪
You'll see in later videos I've got a Fiskars hybrid splitting axe out there that works a lot better. I simply enjoy using the double bit sometimes, it's a fine tool to wield.
@@OhashiOutdoors ..your right there..a fine tool...chopoing wood is a work out hard to beat!...😁💪
⭐💗💝😇❤️♥️💖❣️🌞
Thank you for watching!
If you put an old tire on your stump. Chop your wood inside it and then you don't have to bend down all the time to pick it up. Something going on with the focus of your camera. Its a little fuzzy.
That's a great idea! I don't think I've seen an old tire out there yet, but I'll keep my eyes open. A bungee cord would probably also work, but I don't mind keeping it simple. The extra exercise is good for the body and mind.
Pike are deep water fish troll with a deep water lure
I appreciate the tip, thank you!
Was there a time that you were scared for your life while out there in the woods?
Not once! I feel more safe in the woods than I do in almost any city.
Not a bad way to spend a day or two….any luck with draining the muck hole at the back of the cabin?
This footage is from the same day I started digging and draining. I'll get back to the cabin foundation job in a few more videos, which is about two days after starting.
@@OhashiOutdoors same day? Packing in a LOT of activities in one day! But then with commuting from Japan for the time being, it’s best TO maximize your time….wise move on your part. Subscribed a little bit back, looking forward to the next video.

Yes, but the jet lag got to me. I didn't wake up until 11:00 the following day, you'll see in one of the net videos 🤣 I appreciate you subscribing and hope to continue improving the quality, editing, and content on the channel as my experience grows. Cheers!
Do you carry a weapon when you're there?
Yes, you can see it strapped to my hip in a lot of the footage. Thank you for watching and commenting!
