Three primary reasons: I don't have a place to store it and keep it dry (my small wood shed was stacked full before I left), I want to kill any of the spruce bark beetles still in the wood, and large portions of these trees are rotten or well on their way to being rotten. Thank you for watching!
You're absolutely right, but don't worry! there are a few more upcoming episodes with old newspaper headline reading coming up over the next several weeks! Thank you for watching!
Enjoyed this episode so much...as I do all of them. I've watched all of them at least twice or more. I too wish for more/longer...but totally understand your current limitations. I would love to see what progress you are making from further away. Maybe a drone eventually? Also, dying to see that cabin stripped of all the old junk inside. It would probably look and feel twice as big!! I can tell you are soaking up the feeling of being there. Hopefully you will have enough stored up to get you through to the next time you get to go up. Stay Safe and healthy. Greetings to your family!
Much appreciated, Bernie! That is high praise coming from a man like you, so thank you. I have a 30 min video being released on November 3rd, so there will be a few longer ones in this season. I should have enough in the budget to get a decent drone and learn how to fly it before next trip, so you've got that to look forward to as well! Thank you for watching!
There is one full time residence living on a near by lake. Thats where the rooster crowing comes from. Sound also travels well over water. Thank you for watching!
@@OhashiOutdoors it is incredibly beautiful out there. Thank you for sharing all of this beautiful surrounding, I would never otherwise have known of such a place. The way you take care of your house and surrounding, indeed lovely to watch. God Bless you
First of all, your videos are inspiring! I feel lucky to have stumbled on your channel. What I like is how you are tackling the job by yourself and getting a lot accomplished with what tools you have. Definitely the mark of a real outdoorsman! I have watched all your videos to date. I would suggest you do a patreon account to help you with some of the cost. I would definitely sign up! You're doing a great job, and I look forward to future videos! Definitely, thanks for sharing! Rick From Virginia
Thank you, @rickfromvirginia ! That means a lot to me and is huge motivation to keep the channel going. Not every series will be a solo trip, as I've had a lot of family and friends request to take part in a sliver of this Alaskan adventure. That being said, I still plan to make as many solo trips as possible. Your recommendation about starting a Patreon is humbling, thank you! Given my current living and working situation, I don't feel I could produce enough content year round for that though. Perhaps in several years when I'm able to retire and pursue my dreams more regularly. Thank you for following along and commenting! We hope to see you stick around!
You have a lot of dry pine or spruce twig. If I were you I would use the "one piece of match method" to light the fire. No paper, no gas torch just a piece of match.
It would be a fine method to do with all the small dry beetle-kill spruce branches! A match or fire steel also resonate with my woodsman philosophy more. Perhaps on a future trip 😊 Thank you for watching!
I can appreciate these work-heavy videos. Might not be as adventurous as some might prefer, but this is authentic in that there’s ALWAYS work to be done when off-gridding/roughing it….part of reality. What brand/model of folding saw is it that you’re using?
Thank you for understanding! As this channel progresses, there will be other projects and more adventures out there, and in other places. Thank you for understanding and sticking around! The folding saw is Silky brand. They make great saws in my opinion.
@@OhashiOutdoors it’s about the journey, not just the destination. Seeing the place progress from a neglected, forgotten dream into something viable again is inspiring…..between your channel, plus that of Bushradical, Girl in the Woods and My Self Reliance, it strengthens my resolve at 49 to finally build the cabin in the woods that I’ve envisioned for the past 27 years.
@bowslap Thank you so much! We watch all of the same youtube channels, and all those awesome people were a lot of the motivation for starting my own. We share the same dream of building a cabin in the woods as well. Although I didn't build this cabin, it's still a project, a retreat, and it bridges the gap between now and the future when we are able to stop moving every three years and build the log cabin of our dreams! I look forward to hearing about any progress you make on your future cabin😀
Hello my friend. I see you did another day of hard work and clearing all the dead wood. The filter that you use for the water, does it get rid of all the bad bacteria and do you boil your water at all? Cheers my friend. Greetings from Edmonton Canada
It's some of my favorite work to do out there, and luckily there is a tone of it to be done. Yes, the water filter does remove bacteria, parasites, etc. I drank the water after it passed through the filter all week with no ill effect. Thank you for watching, friend!
Another great video. Thank you You told me in your first or second video that you were not a great talker we now see that your are. You don’t ramble like a lot of bloggers but just tell us what you are doing and about your equipment.
Thank you for that, and thank you for watching! The video I'm currently editing has a bit more rambling than normal, but I do my best to keep it short. I'm also learning about camera microphone capabilities and editing sound. Not great, but hopefully I can improve my technique and equipment before next trip and bring you more clarity! Thank you for following!
Chopping the tree was a great work out ! who needs a gym. I like when you speed the camera up, it saves time for those watching. It's great when you tell about the equipment you have. I see you have an out house, you definitely need that ! it's good when you have the videos in sections of what you are doing next. You sure put a lot of work in the camera settings. Another excellent video. I enjoyed it.
🤣 Thank you! I wish I had a better microphone back then to capture it better. I've got a better, more professional mic for this upcoming trip. Now I just have to learn how to use it 😆 Thank you for watching!
I'm happy you appreciated that! The channel you recommended, Berm Peak, does some cool camera work. I've been watching some of his videos and learning more skills of the trade for our next trip up there. Thank you for watching, brother!
I think I'm just about finished watching you cut trees and burn. I understand that you are having a great time, but it's a little less exciting for us.
Not to sound like a jerk (I'm sure you meant that as constructive) but that is the title of the video. I've been watching from the beginning, and this is just his style, and so far it seems to be working pretty well for him. Once he gets the cleanup done I'm sure that we will see some more different content. As a creator, it can be difficult to pull content out of thin air, especially content that will keep people engaged. At the end of the day feedback is important; both good and bad, and does help creators improve! -Dusty
Not a problem, thank you for giving it a try. I'd recommend checking back in 9-10 years from now when I'll have more access, time, and resources to do the things we really want to do out there and across AK.
Much appreciated, @DustyBottomAcresAK ! You're absolutely right. My style changes slightly with every video and feedback I receive. It's hard to make huge style changes given that my week-long trip out there is over; all the footage has been taken. The only style changes I can make are through free video editing software now 🤣 I also just film what I'm doing on a daily basis, not doing things and making up projects to pull in a youtube audience. There is a fine art to keeping it real and interesting, and keeping your audience engaged.
@@OhashiOutdoors In addition to that, you're doing it entirely alone, so there's nobody there to follow you with the camera, or interact with you to help "fill up" the quiet parts of the video. I have noticed things tend to move more quickly on a lot of videos when there's a couple involved, even when they're doing similar projects to yours. You seem to be doing a balance of ASMR, first, and second person viewpoints, and based on your subs and views it is working well! Keep up the good work. -Dusty
@@DustyBottomBoysAK Much appreciated, Dusty! You notice a lot of things and provide great feedback. I didn't even think of the difference in filming solo vs as a couple. Thank you.
Hi,
Just wondering why your not collecting the wood for your wood heater and stockpiling it?
