Also the lever on the side of the carb is the fuel pump when it's cold and the auto choke doesn't work you can pump it a few times and it will start right up.
If that much stuff blew out of the CVT breather, the cover should be pulled to investigate. Lord knows what else is inside of there, especially with mice having been in there. Being a belt driven machine with unknown miles/hours, that's one of the first things I would check anyway, just to be sure the primary clutch rollers aren't flat spotted, the belt is in good condition, excessive belt dust, etc. All the normal things you would check on a CVT machine. Also, that Warn winch should have a free spool handle on the cable side of it, so you don't need to use the rocker switch when pulling line out. Makes winching much quicker, and saves your battery.
My arctic cat 400 did the same thing. Found a new carb online for 55, replaced all the fuel lines, replaced the vacuum manifold, it was cracked, and it runs awesome now
Hey Joe... I just wanted to mention your tape job on the the air box snorkel tube to richen the air / fuel mixture. If you would adjust your mixture screw correctly on the bottom of the bowl of the carb you wouldn't need that hack to make it run correctly. Keep up the videos that we all enjoy...
It's about the pressure in the air box not the fuel mixture. I tried adjusting it and it did the same thing. I'm guessing the air filter wasn't restricted enough for the carb.
I really enjoy and appreciate your videos man! As someone who piddles around with machines with zero ability or knowledge, I rely on guys like you to get me out of jams I get myself into. I have learned a lot from watching your videos! The mouse was nice surprise!
Good buy! Might I suggest, on the side of your winch, should be a switch, switch it to free spool to unspool winch line. Also, it is hard on your winch to hook it up to an object, the pull the object out with atv. Let the winch do the work. Also, throw something on top of the winch line (like a sweatshirt), in case of line breakage. It will keep it from coming back and causing injury.
i have one like this from 2003, its a higher trim level but lower at the same time. It was from the time when e reverse was around, but it has manual rev, but it does have speedo and odo, but you are right. These are super simple machines that are easy to work on and are super reliable. And they get really good mileage too.
2vintage, Vinnie knew that mouse was there from the beginning. You could see him in hunt mode at the back of the 4wheeler since you pointed out he was licking the tire
I havent commented in a while, had appendicitis, luckily im good now. I got an owners manual for my kdx and am gonna tune clutch and get a new throttle cable plus kill switch put in. Keep up the good work!
Was suprised you didnt ever pull off that cvt cover its obviously packed with a mouse house, dont want that urine aging the clutches sooner than time would, probably needs a good polish n clean for belts to grab correctly.iam sure youll get to it,but wanted to see myself just how packed it was.that was awsome seeing that mouse blast out of tube then running for his life.there cute but a real hazard.snookie pa.💥👍💥
Always been mostly a sports quad guy for the most part but I actually really dig that quad. With that being said, commence with all the scamming lowlifes with"Text me, you've won a prize...."
Last two CVT quads I bought had mouse nests in the CVT case. Important to clean that out or you be burning up belts and wearing clutches with no air cooling. I have about 10 traps throughout my garage. Catch up to 5 a week in the nothwoods of WI.
Something I wish I knew about these bikes is under the skid plate there is a small "oil pan" that the drain plug screws into that you can remove with four small bolts and allows access to the pickup screen that in our case got clogged with gasket material after a dealership shop changed the one way bearing. I unfortunately did not discover said oil pan until after we lost the bottom end and of course there are no parts available for the bottom end on this bike so remember if you have to go inside one of these motors take a little extra time and clean the screen.
Joe would be interesting to see you take off the old stickers and how you clean up the areas. Thanks for taking the time to share your skills with us. Best wishes, Deb
Lucky find with this one. One small thing tonpoint out, not sure how important it is, but you never hold the reverse override button when you back up. On the scrambler I used to ride it would load up and start popping and spitting if you reversed to long with holding that button in
i have a 420 Honda 4x4 and the only negative thing i can say about it is the oil fill hole. great video and looks like you have a new plow for the driveway. stay safe and have a great day
Rotella 5w40 winter time and 15w40 summer...diesel has high zink in the oil...works for any atv or bike...as long as it's synthetic its suitable for wet clutches too it's good stuff
I had the exact machine it was a 375. 2001 year. I sold it and bought a can am 570. I’ll be honest I liked the cat better. Never had any trouble with it and I plowed my driveway for years
Amazing work must b great fixing all those bikes i loved watching the honda xl as i had the 185 i loved it for the 7 hrs i had it untill a driving instructor pulled across in front of me and that was that over 40 years ago and still dream about it lol .keep up the great work ❤
Choking off air isn’t a fix, it’s a trick to get back home. Cv carburetors are pains, I have ran across similar problems and found that the vacuum diaphragm on the slide gets stiffer over time and the engine does not produce enough vacuum to compensate, or the slide doesn’t slide as easily as it should. Problem is those diaphragm can be hard to get sometimes
@@myguitaryourface5160 just more to go wrong. I can get rebuilt kits all day long but few come with that diaphragm. And I don’t know what is up with the fuel here in Arkansas but I’ve come across quite a few rotted out carbs.
Hi joe love watching your excellent videos you always do a great job fixing the bikes and quads which is more than i can say for vinney who couldn't catch that poor mouse lol
Good Video, I looked on Amazon and they have Oil filters for the Article Cat for around $10.00. I sure enjoy your Videos and I learn a few things also. James.
I appreciate you giving the numbers on fuel costs, as the fuel costs helps to give historical context to these videos. Today (Feb 12th '23 eggs are costing some peeps $10/dozen)
My dad had a 2005 Artic cat 400 4X4 had 80hrs and it was $1500 from a Suzuki dealer got it for $1500 and got it running for $50 it was to much to get to the carbs deal from God!
Brilliant buy joe and really clean runs like new can’t go wrong there mate and a live mouse to go lol vinny looked impressed ahaha take care budddy great content 👍👌🔧🔧🔧
I don't know why more people aren't well enough informed to freespool your winch cable out . A lot easier on your battery and winch motor , not to mention a lot faster .
Hope its got an original Arctic cat engine, they're know for using other manufacturers motors, worked on quite a few of em that have been Suzuki and Kawasaki .
That front punkin should have a leaver on it witch u can connect a rod to to switch from 2 and 4x4 a dealership showed me that yrs ago to save myself some money
Hey Joe, I just finished restoring an 08 and I had a question for you. What is the top speed of this? Mine seems a little slow but I'm really not sure what I should expect. I find numbers on forums vary from like 30mph to 50mph+.
I just bought a dirt bike I don't know what kind it is I do know it's an 80cc dirt bike please help me figure out what kind of dirt bike this is I can send a picture
Sweet quad! Man, you guys are getting slammed on gas there, but oil there is way cheaper than here. Gas yesterday here, $2.99 a gal, but a quart of Amsoil is now about $25.00. With a Wicks filter, an oil change for the little Miata my son and I are reconstructing is $120.00. Unfortunately around here, there are only a very few who carry it, so they can charge whatever they want to. IS that a plastic cover over the frame of that plow?? Must be for snow only if so, but we don't get any of that down here much. We just get tornadoes.
I'd thought that too but I suspect it was dead mice in the clutch. I really wanted to see him open that up n clean out the pipe. Hopefully he did it n just didn't show us
It's an Artic Cat. That's what the problem is. lol. Seriously though, People always wonder why their machines don't run with aftermarket parts with out retuning the computer.
How do you like Arctic Cat ATVs? I have the exact same one. I also have a 2007 400 foot shift independent suspension. I also have more ATVs that are Hondas. But need to be worked on.
I wish I had the balls of this guy to jus say funk it and buy and fix them. It's always a gamble to me cause I don't know how to fix the hard stuff. Even with a book, I'm nervous
Wait a second! So you "adjusted" for improper jetting by using foil tape on the intake? Why not take the time to put the correct jets in that cheap china carb? I am willing to bet that the factory carb was dirty and the seller went online and bought the cheapest carb he could find. Stuck it on and it still didnt run so he listed it. Had a guy do that with a mint 2012 Polaris 400ho. Took me a while to find the correct OEM carb and it ran 100% after that.
Also the lever on the side of the carb is the fuel pump when it's cold and the auto choke doesn't work you can pump it a few times and it will start right up.
The quad is also a suzuki eiger so if you need parts the suzuki parts are 1/2 the cost than artic cat parts.

Vinnie's a star, he makes me laugh when he runs alongside whatever you're test riding.

Thanks for putting these videos out. We enjoy watching you bring things back to life.

damn thats very nice im 56 and retired would love to have one of those to go in the mountains to go gold panning im bored as hell lol great find

That's what I love about having Min-pins around, they hate rats, mouse, any small rodent, they used them on ships back in the day to kill rodents.
The dog running with you is the best!
I liked the Artic Cat video I have a 2001 250 4x4 for my plow machine, gotta say other than a periodic carb cleaning it has ran great.
I like these things in olive drab. 👍
That mouse got evicted hahaha right when I seen it shoot out I lost it hahaha laughed so friggin hard.
That's the perfect unit to drag a big deer out of the woods during a rebuild hunt colab snicker snicker

Cash only, no trades! Absolutely NO TIRE LICKERS! 😂
Vinnie was looking for a ride!!!
I always feel smarter after watching one of these videos
Carb is clean! That was a change
Just worked on a 2000 Arctic Cat 500 yesterday. Big heavy ATV.
I got a good idea as to why the prices are up... let’s go brandon!
Amazing work must b great fixing all those bikes i loved watching the honda xl as i had the 185 i loved it for the 7 hrs i had it untill a driving instructor pulled across in front of me and that was that over 40 years ago and still dream about it lol .keep up the great work ❤

The diaphragm looked great. I wonder if the stock airfilter was more restrictive than the new one on it.
Yeah I'd get a stock filter or rejet. CV carbs are bulletproof otherwise
@@TIICProductions I don’t know about that, the basic slide only carbs sure were
@@cm5838 exactly,cv carbs aren't the greatest

I have a 2008 366 arctic cat I bought new. It stills runs like a champ. The only problem I've had is the 4/4 switch went out .
Just a reminder to check your wheel bearings on your trailer! Went to pick up a cheap ATV and my wheel bearings left the chT
Should check the belt box for mice would be bad if it doesn't get cleaned out. I would change the belt as well
I appreciate you giving the numbers on fuel costs, as the fuel costs helps to give historical context to these videos.
Today (Feb 12th '23 eggs are costing some peeps $10/dozen)
I stopped at 18 minutes to say it looks like an aftermarket carb.
My dad had a 2005 Artic cat 400 4X4 had 80hrs and it was $1500 from a Suzuki dealer got it for $1500 and got it running for $50 it was to much to get to the carbs deal from God!
Swear I might just watch your videos now to see your dog chasing you around!!
I really enjoy your videos. I’ve learned a lot and no offensive language. Thank you so much! Please keep them coming.
I have a roll of old plastic swimming pool material that would work perfectly on that plow. It's about a quarter inch thick.
Hope its got an original Arctic cat engine, they're know for using other manufacturers motors, worked on quite a few of em that have been Suzuki and Kawasaki .
Wondering why restricting the air flow fixed the bog when the plug already indicated a rich condition.....
Good job funny as you like with the mice ! Little john from the UK
Handy sort of quad you can get some work done with. Get a little trailer and you'll be good to go
Piece of duct tape! Wow! Excellent video
If you have a menards near you I would go there the oil is much cheaper I bought 2 1 gallon jugs for 40 bucks a month ago
That’s a keeper, in my opinion.
Where’s my prize, Joe?!? Ha! I reported that scam message.
Great work horse!!
I believe these had almost the same exact engines as the Eiger 400. You gotta watch, the flywheel magnets come unglued and fall off.
I think Vinnie was trying to tell you a mouse was in there ,in the beginning of your vid lol !
72.92!!! Expensive, lol I’m jealous just paid 5.69 a gallon this morning I’m California. Gotta get out of here
He will learn to get the mice and moles and other creatures
That front punkin should have a leaver on it witch u can connect a rod to to switch from 2 and 4x4 a dealership showed me that yrs ago to save myself some money

Should be a knob on the winch you can free spool the cable

Great video. you need to maybe add on to your garage for all your toys, or buy a couple of big sheds to put them in so you can use the space.
damn, your always close to all your buys!!i have to travel all the time like 2 -3 hours were in live to buy something in the u.p of michigan.
Looks interesting Joe,looking forward to this !🤔👁👀👁👍🙏👍👍
It looks pretty sharp. You never took the cover off and looked for mouse family??
😆 that's what I was thinking. Like Eff the mice in there! Make some soup out of them
Easy fix. Nice find
Nice. Should get the job done.
I paid $6.39 yesterday here in Northern California. It costs about $110 to fill my 4Runner from empty. Totally absurd.
That's ridiculous
I don't drive it unless I need to. Gas costs more down on the coast I live up by Lake Tahoe where it's "cheaper" LOL
Biden/Harris will go down in history as Traitors & the worst presidents of all time. Impeachment coming for Biden (The Big Guy)
That’s nothing here in Canada it’s over 10$ a gallon
Here in Sweden a liter of 95 is about 2 USD, so you should still consider yourself lucky lol xd
What is the function of that tube where the mouse was living?
Air intake?
That tube supplys air to keep the clutch cool
Love the videos ! But make sure to fill the filter with oil than spin it so the sides soak it in:) than put it on
This may be why it's bogging
Found last years Christmas tree to play with
Wow a 4 Wheeler you can get at the spark plug without having to spend a 1/2 an hour to a hour getting the plastics off 1st.

It gone down quite a bit in price recently too!
Were you able to find a linkage for the accelerator pump?
Sounded like rod knock when you had it running the first time.
I'd thought that too but I suspect it was dead mice in the clutch. I really wanted to see him open that up n clean out the pipe. Hopefully he did it n just didn't show us
