Another great video Joe Cast iron Kohler engine. Also known as K series. Will be a data plate on it somewhere. K91 is 8hp, K241 is 10hp, K321 is 14, K341 is 16 etc. Cool old rig.
P.S. turn your quart bottle over when you pour lol. It will be smoother coming out. The shape will let air in so it doesnt glug!

Most ATVs will float with wide rear tires on the front wheels like this, I wonder how heavy the steering is.

    • @robertweniger6194
      @robertweniger6194 ปีที่แล้ว

those atvs will not float because of the hiigh flotation tires, all that means is the tires will float to a small degree, the only atv that will float is the Argo, which by the way has the same tires, the reason it floats is the underbody whereas 3 and 4 wheeler's don't have the underbody

@@robertweniger6194 LoL who said anything about high floatation tires ? Apparently you have not riden a 3 wheeler in the water. And with the 4 wheeler I was in Louisiana and there you have no choice but to ride through deep water. So don't try to say they don't float, that is a bunch of crap.

    • @robertweniger6194

i used to ride the three wheeler in the water alot, but they do not float only one or 2 wheels stay above the water somewhat but not completely, that is why they are called high flotation all 3, most 4 wheelers and all 6 wheelers come with them, and they only hold 5 psi air at the most, fyi my 3 wheeler was a honda atc 185, y best friends was a yamaha trimoto 125, and other friend had a atc 125M@@johnbeaudette583

If it has a Kohler industrial style engine, no oil filter on it so keep the oil changed regularly. It likely has just splash lubrication inside the engine. The main jet mixture screw is the one on top, idle mixture is on the side. Adjust to smoothest running.

That is a Kohler k181 305cc engine. The same engine put in many smaller garden tractors. They are eight horsepower at about 3,600 RPM, which is where the governor is generally set. Depending on how the throttle linkage is set up, there should be more than one hole to put the governor spring in order to turn the governor up a bit if you want. Just don't turn it up too much. Haha. 10w40 in cold weather is okay but they really should run straight 30 weight especially in summer. I've had many many years of experience with Kohler k series engines. They will last you forever if you keep the oil changed.

  • @IRONCaptainPanic

That thing goes through the snow better than atvs way ahead of its time and Era, it's primitive in design but it works so well for how old it is, a lot of atvs so much more powerful and higher end would get stuck at least once or twice but this thing didn't get stuck once in the video and it pulled that trailer through it with little struggle, I might try and see if I can find one and restore it if needed if I ever see one, I'm sold on that thing!

    • @benscoles5085

@@benscoles5085 I don't think my buddy's custom big bore banshee 4x4 would have made it through there either, he built a super cool custom frame and design to give the banshee 4wd while still making it a banshee in the same Frame dimensions, 170hp from a highly modified engine, it was a unique experience to ride a yamaha banshee with 4wd, so powerful and the turning corners at high speed is downright amazing and well planted, just and absolute tank of a machine, no experience like it, I never knew I wanted to build a 4wd banshee up until now

I guess, in your area ATV's are popular and that's why you buy and fix them, you are very good at what you do.
I watched a video last night about something very interesting, the parts can be pricey but as with everything they will come down, the video was about Snow bikes (part dirt bike and part snowmobile) and the conversion kit from dirt bike to snow bike (looks like track and front ski), you will be one of the first in your area and may grow your viewership even more

  • @davesplace1307

They were marketed towards farmers ranchers and actually people that work with swamps. From the factory they came with 26-in tires. I want to say these are the same wheels and tires that come off of a ditch witch. Really cool design. I almost bought one myself but the bad part is parts are so ridiculously hard to come by. Just the stupid little thing. You can still get the comet transmission at the clutch assembly but it's the little stuff like the clutch cover that is hard to come by. Really awesome old quad

The honcho was a 4x4 atv back in the early 70s and everyone always says Honda and Suzuki were the first atvs on the market. It always makes me laugh. We owned a honcho when I was a kid. It was slow it was hard to steer but it was actually more capable then our Honda 300. 4:30 "Close" call with those ramps, I have some that have a chain that goes from the middle or so, go under the ramp, and hook to the truck's hitch area so they can't slip out. Could be easy to add a d-ring on the trailer and chain/hook on your ramps or a "tooth" on the metal of the ramp that hooks into the trailer floor. Be safe out there lol

That fuel tank shutoff looks like you can use a universal push in grommet type for lawn equipment.

One of the valves is way out, probably the exhaust side. Neat little machine brother.

If you can get a little more tension on that drive belt it'll help with bottom end .. maybe check the belt deflection and bushings.. I'm sure a little fine tuning of the carb would help too .. love the videos man

The Kohler is 305cc to the Kawasaki tranny of Honcho ATV full time 4 wheel drive 26 inch high or less? The tire to the 12' wide and 12" rim. Nice for snow slopes.

OMG, this takes me back ! in the summer of 1985 (I think) my wife and I drove to upstate New York and to meet up with one of my childhood friends from Europe who was touring the US in an RV with his new bride. Anyhow in the small town they were staying at, there was a guy who was selling these ATVs. He let my friend and I take them out for a test spin around the local trails. To be honest, what I remember most was how bone shakingly uncomfortable it was due to its total lack of any suspension. I do remember crossing a small swamp on it, but I can't remember if it floated. I do remember that the lack of a rear or intermediate diff meant it did not like to turn.

We had a Bigfoot Avenger 3 wheeler back in the 1980s that was similar. I would love to see one of those if you ever find one.

Anytime I find a float needle with a neoprene tip in an old carb, I know it's been rebuilt at least once before. Decades ago, the needles and seats were made from brass only. The needle in the carb of that kohler engine probably came stock, with the neoprene tipped needle because the bowl has an o-ring instead of a flat, paper gasket. Those engines are tough and reliable. I have a twin cylinder Kohler engine on my 6 wheeled amphibious vehicle. The engine was the only thing that worked when I bought it. Looked like it had been through a war, but started right up.

I know Honda used Keihin carbs on street bikes in the 80s that came with black rubber needle tips. I find the brass needles more in machines from the 60s and 70s

If possible you should put the plow from the last quad on that one. It would probably do much better in the deeper stuff.

Extremely interesting. I had a Dirt Wheels magazine buyers guide and there was a photo of one of these in it. I have never seen one in person. So seeing it in your vid all these years later is very cool. I think these were made in 85. Then in 86 Honda came out with their TRX350 4x4 then in 87 Suzuki came out with their 4x4 with the range and 4x4 levers in front of the seat.

For what it was back then....as it was very old tech.....i guess it was okay....but very primative in design as far as power and the exposed drive chains.Me i would have passed for what i would expect it to do.But all i can say is best of LUCK with it Joe.Don't break it,Great video though...!!

Hey buddy now you definitely need to find one of the older two wheel drive trail kings or trail ??? Something?? I can’t quite remember the names of them but they also had big tire like what the Honcho has on it!! They also came with a hitch or you could get a hitch for them as a option buy accessories!! They also made a side cart for them and a few other options from the factory!! I think the first years was like 1964-1967 somewhere in there and I’m not quite sure when they stopped making them!! Some had a lower geared option and a multiple gear option also!! The later year ones weren’t as cool as the very first couple years that they came out with them!!! I’d definitely love to see you get one and redo one or if you can find one in really good shape!!! But definitely go with the first couple years that they made them if you can find them?? I no I see them listed every once in a while though!!!
