It's good to see a young man reap the benefits of all of the hard work he does. Excellent channel by the way. Please keep us updated on the garden, its looking great so far.
Deer are going to love you with all the feed you’ve planted
Ol’ Joe needs to invite guys from SeekOne, they’d have a field day deer hunting and fishing in central Wisconsin
Mix a 40/60 solution of boiled linseed oil and paint thinner. Its crazy how nice it brings the color back in all faded plastics. Did it on my Honda and Yamaha machines.
I have seen faded bumpers on cars brought back to colour by putting a heat gun on them.
ATF works wonders on that plastic crap...
I was thinking he could wet sand with 1,000 grit to get the faded surface material off then Cerakote or something like that. The heat gun may bring the shine back.
You realize every machine you work on and fix, your resume is massive. You have so much experience on so many different things is very impressive. Way to go!
Use a Propane blow torch on faded plastic it will restore it like new, practice on scrap plastic first and you will get better with time faster than using heat gun.
In Germany, we repair our Stadium seats with a Propane blow torch! They look like they were installed like new! That works perfectly fine!
Yup thats what stadiums do with their sun faded seats makes them look new.
Or you can use a heat gun, just not as quick and can be more pin point with attachments
Hey Joey, you don’t have to hit it with a torch immediately you first have to use WD-40 and a Scotch-Brite to get the old material off before you hit it with a torch.
First use a mild cleaner and a Scotch pad to loosen it up and then the heat gun or the torch should clear up the rest of it. It’s not easy, but it can be done and I’ll look.
That was a bargain buy for $1000! Nice work
Every time I watch you I am amazed at your talent to diagnose and make the repair. Another great video.
Looking at your garden, the deer are eating you up. Get some cheap rags, soak in ammonia, and hang around the field. Just a retired veggies farmer giving a bit of advice!
Just silicone the crack on the sensor. Make sure you run the ESP shifting. Make sure the heat shield wasn't cutting into the sensor.
looks to be that it did and perhaps blew that there fuse ....???
Nice project, hugely popular this time of year. Now let's tear it apart. Great job getting it to shift - that's what a sledgehammer is for
I had a 2014 rubicon sold it in 2023 never one issues. It was an absolute tank. Always in water when I was hunting my duck blind. Never let me down!!
For your apple trees. Save you some money. Make a 4 to 6 foot square around your tree and only needs to be about 4ft high. The deer will leave them alone. Great work on the machine
Joe, you will never. ever get bored of working on these machines. Why? Cause you service all makes and models! i do similar with cars and trucks. Rewarding!! One thing I haven't seen tho', is a simple test light. When you are looking at voltage while running, don't rev, bring the rpm up to ~1500 for 30 seconds.
Just put some JB weld on that sensor to plug the wholes.
Nice troubleshooting Joe. Better get those apples protected. The Deer will eat the new leaves over and over and stunt their growth. They will not regrow the missing leaves till next year once they get stripped a couple of times.
how much you want to bet the heat from the exhaust shortens the shift angle sensor life... the blue one motor is much tighter...
Love my 2001 Rubicon. It's usually the shift position sensor or the control motor. I've only used Honda brand sensors to replace mine. I've seen people use cheap Chinese ones, but when they go out, they can cause the swash plate to slam to one side in the Hondamatic unit. SHIFT SENSOR GOING OUT. Makes it sputter in reverse when they do, heard it when you went into reverse in the yard.
You can heat up the plastics with a heat gun and become new again but first pressure wash them to clear up
Those Rubicons are beasts.
I have an older one I ride on the ranch in Montana, and I ride it through trout streams, up steep hills.., and it doesn't miss a beat!
I will often ride it into the middle of my trout stream, and fish all day from it.
Thanks Joe for showing me how to keep the Rubicon running like new😊
You must live a good life buddy 😊
@@Charlton2010 Everyday I wake up, thank the Lord, read the newspaper and don't see my name in the obituaries.., yes, it's the good life.
Nowhere on the planet is is good for a trout stream to park and fish from a motor vehicle. Please park on the side and wade it.
I saw the entire repair process, you are an expert.
I have a 02 Rubicon a 00 400ex and a 09 trx700xx glad you have featured all those machines
Great work on these! I hope that your garden does well! I moved to the Philippines when I retired a few years ago and gardening here sucks because you either have no rain or too much rain, lol.
You may have a worn bearing on the starter causing it to drag and act like a weak battery. Happened on my 2003 rubicon. I would check your valve clearance too, seems to be a bit noisy comparedto mine but it only has 350 hours. I always enjoy watching your videos...great job
Congrats on the double win👏
I think I’m gonna enjoy your garden progress as much as the motors 😀
Sounds like a shift position sensor The reason it's doing that in reverse is its running on the rev limiter for the reverse but it's not supposed to cut it that much that soon
That sensor didn't get cut it got melted bye the heat sheld
Blow torch will come back like new
The water in the sensor on the Yellow one shorted to ground, that’s why your fuse blew.
I doubt the water in the sensor caused the fuse to blow. Sensors work on lower amps and voltage and send a signal to the controller. The controller then sends battery voltage and higher amps to the motor.
Sweet! I love seeing people get good deals that are easy fixes!
I watched a video of a man just heating the plastics with a propane torch and the color came back like new and it stayed looking good.... You need to first clean the plastics with a greenie. I am a retired mechanic and I love your videos.
Just noticing first up the neutral light does come on in neutral. Loving seeing something similar to my foreman sport 2006 model only I'm glad I have 5speed shift and a simple 2wd/4wd switch.
Had much of the same issue but mine was stuck in 4th gear. Not even the manual shift tool from the toolbox would change to any other gear. I did a little research and learned my Rancher ES had a shifting fork (for the lack of a better word) notorious for snapping off. In fact, Honda issued a bulletin about this issue. Yeah, I had to remove one case and pull the clutch to access it. a 20 dollar part. Sure enough, it was split in half and would not rotate the shifting mechanism. I slapped a new one in. It was much beefier than the original. That was two years ago. Still working perfectly.
Cheers from Louisiana.
Awesome video! Just bought an 04 rancher AT and learned a lot
Hi Joe, plant your corn in rows 12 inches apart and the plants 12 inches apart - staggered - it would like an equilateral triangle from above. This way the crops are supported in windy situations and you get a better yield overall. My brother in law from Michicgan taught me this technique and its never failed..
Seen a few other videos online of guys restoring plastics on their dirt bikes and quads.
Most use a razor blade and scrape lightly scrape off the edges of the deeper scratches. Then they use lower to high grid wet sandpaper to lightly get out all the minor scratches. Then follow that with like some guys commented using a torch to bring the brightness back while finishing off with a wax and buffing wheel.
Use a propane torch wand that doesnt have a direct flame like the small torch attachments. This will restore faded plastic. I have seen it done on stadium seats that are plastic and they looked like brand new when they were finished and I have also used this technique and it works well just be careful you don’t burn the plastic. Always keep the flame moving of course
Faded plastic try off bug repellent, it worked on mine. And it's great for yellow headlights too.
Great diagnosis, thanks for the info!
Sound troubleshooting techniques and a great pickup for $1,000. The "Land", I am really jealous. A combined track and food plot!
another well done project. Glad to see you use a meter. My dad showed me how to use a meter when I was 12 t/o A Simpson VOM. That was 55 years ago.
I am also 67 and jealous, because my dad didn't show me sh*t!
I like that blue one
Rust-Oleum Wipe New strange product but works amazingly well on plastic and will bring it almost back to its original color and luster with very little work it does actually work pretty well I will say the blowtorch method works very well as well but you risk melting things or setting something on fire
when installing shift angle sensor make sure that it is preloaded in correct direction, read manual, have seen quite a few where people plugged in new sensor but didn't set it right
For the faded plastics try this it really works. Boiled linseed oil and you cut it with paint thinner or mineral spirits. Some people use scotchbrite pads or use several gradients of wet sanding ..then wipe on the oil mixture. It does have to dry though
Simply outstanding Joe !!!
I’m digging the update on the plants and trees
Great find on both machines
I've owned a 2005 rancher since new the shift angle sensor is the first place i would start.
I HAD an 04 Recon... replaced shift angle sensor twice...PIA
Get a load tester . Amperage is a different animal to voltage .
Brilliant video Joe watching from Edinburgh Scotland UK 🇬🇧 👏 👍
We have a 450 Forman that has the esp, but also the option the put a foot shifter on it. The esp never worked great and was always clunky so we just ordered the foot shifter from the dealer and never had to mess with the electronic shifter. Way better.
Two great machines. Nice work. Don’t forget the gas cap breather hose. Water will get in the tank without them. Love the vids.
10 seconds into this video and as of the owner of a 2001 450es I am gonna guess it involves the angle sensor lol. I got mine off a guy who practically gave it to me because he thought his transmission was going. 99 dollar angle sensor later and I had a good working bike
Heat gun can sometimes clean up plastics.
Looks like you've got ,2nice quads that'll do 30000 miles for about 2k. Well done! My 06 foreman sport had 160hrs and 700miles on it when I bought it 2years ago. It'll be with me till the end!
Enjoy all your videos.
I have driven Honda ATV since the beginning with the Honda ATC 185s. Currently have the Rubicon IRS in the standard foot shift.
I have avoided the Hondas with the ESP as these always seem to have issues. Seems like the shift motors will go out and will need to be replaced…….and the OEM part from Honda is not cheap. And, the aftermarket ones are junk.
I bet this is the shifting issues with both the Rubicons you have now.
Looking good. Try using a torch to shine up the plastics. I have seen people do this for faded plastic seats at a stadium. Good luck.
Hey buddy you're doing a great job some people say that if you use a propane torch on your plastics it brings to shine back give it a try good job
Thank you for this video helped me with my quad same one it's a 2004 Honda foreman rubicon
Happy Days Joe Has Posted 🔥🔥🔥
Don't use a torch Joe, this is the best video I have ever found " DIY Plastic Repair part one" McNasty Customz very good tutorial starting with a sander, with coarse sandpaper then finish with mothers aluminum polish. Turns out glossy like new. You got a damn nice. I've seen several videos that do not recommend fire. Thx
just idea i have always wondering if the stuff the use on car headlight stuff that clear up headlight if that would fix ur plastics just a thought
FOR PLASTICS. Get a headlight renewal kit. It contains many finer and finer grit papers and then buffer and buffer compound. There is a certain brand to be found on Szabo TH-cam he used to redo a light. And because lights are plastics it works same as body. Basically as good as new.
Use an orbital sander going from 150 grit down to 1200 then buff it and the plastic will look brand new
Nice fix on both quads Joe!! As for the garden go with the electric solar fence.
Very impressive work.
Grow your own Joe! I look forward to watching the crops progress and the expert wrenching
The deer stand on their back legs and love apple leaves. I have the same issues on my farm.
Great buy, should be a quick, profitable turnaround
You can restore those plastics. Just like an old paint job.....start sanding with scotch Brite to remove dirt then begin sanding in stages. It'll come back
Great fixes all round. Pleasure to watch mate.👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I used Mr Clean magic Erasure pads for my Can Am which is yellow as well. Takes some elbow grease but it turned out cherry!!
Restore Plastics, i used a blow torch or a heat gun, worked for me many times.
Good fixes Joe. As far as batteries in this stuff you can't really go by just a voltage reading. Even if it read 12.6 at no load which is basically full charge, the next step is to see if it can hold that voltage under load. People let these toys set for weeks or months and the batteries just sulfate and loose capacity and are junk after 2 years or less. Always plug them on a good smart tender when parked for more than a few days and they will last 5-7 years or more.
The rear brake on mine the pedal was seized and cable was fine. Take the pin out and pound off the pedal wire brush and marine grease and works like new.
Great to see you putting food plots in for the deer !
Wild bohrs will love your garden
You might want to try some STP Son Of A Gun! Protectant, on your yellow ATV, which claims to shine and protect vinyl, rubber, and plastic by reducing the effects of ultraviolet (sunshine). I've used it on oxidized metal clad patio doors, which worked well for a number of years after one application. Clean the surface before applying. I found it in an automotive supply store.
Restoring the plastics on my quad I ended up using wet sand paper to get rid of the faded rough areas and after I got to 1500 I coated with cheap ceramic coat it has looked great for years. The heat gun method I have tried but looks blotchy.
Another great video mate great detective work
One more thing, Vinnie is very lucky to have you as his Dad.
dogs and pets are not children :)
Ditto, Joe seemingly has the patience of a saint. Ideal pet owner and father. Where is the 2Vinnie channel?
@@motoadi95 Being a good pet owner is remarkably similar to being a good father.
@@tuguybear930Yet not LITERALLY being a father
Good looking rig, Honda should only require a little “tinkering” inexpensive to fix and maintain. Quick flip, or addition to Joe’s World of Wheels.
Today’s $2 idea, your opening, walk around discussing purchase could be a SHORT to drive views and subscriptions
A hand torch works great to freshen up plastics, but make sure they are very clean first on light color plastics like that or it’ll stain it. Might even have to do a light sanding first but a quick dance with the torch should make them look much better 👍
Use plastic polish and steel wool and as well as a heat gun and I have even had to use a propane torch or any touch flame to just go over the sacrifices to remelt the top layer and being careful not over heat the plastic to melt the or worn the plastic. I have had good luck with steel wool 00 and a scotch bright pad and 1,2,3 stage plastic polish depending on how good you want it to get more of the color might need to do all starting off just getting all the contaminants off . Lots of elbow grease and few tools like drill and several sizes of pads and discs, buffing wheels and or polisher and waxing to protect it from more damage from the sun and wether.. good luck. God Bless Dale
Wow nice two-fer fixes on Rubicons👍👍👍
Apple trees are pretty resilient Joe. Yeah a fence would definitely help, but they should be ok.. you'd be surprised if you plan a fig tree, in the winter man you can cut the fig tree back to basically the trunk and next October / November you'd have a million figs.
There is a sequence to go through to reset the shifting. You Tube has a video of the procedure.
You're a pro Joe! Nice little bikes!
awesome job! I have basically the same bike yellow and all. Mine is an 04 foreman rubicon 500 eps. Those tires need to be swapped though driving me nuts lol.
Man that's good to know I have had them were they would t shift I have a rancher now I wonder if it would work on one of them
Joe you can use a rotary polisher and compound to buff out those faded plastics. But they may be brittle
like the new trail!
Wow, that first shift sensor was toast!!
10psi on the blow gun! Awesome
Angle sensor or shift motor seized. Then perform the initial setting procedure.
A Razor blade will do the job. Just go over lightly and smoothly, then IF NEED BE lightly wet sand, and you're good to go. A heat gun will not work DUE to the contaminates bedded into the plastics, aswell the top layer is brittle. Keep up THE GREAT VIDEOS.
Magic Eraser or 400 grit wet sand plus trim care works great to restore plastic.
Heat gun for the faded plastic .... Works amazing ....
