- I bought this 1960's "MotoStandard" Steel Trac tractor at a online auction. It was left for dead out in the forest. The owner did not remember when it run last time. It's made in Norway. It has a 4Stroke engine at 8-9hp.
It sure is the most scary, odd and fun machine i got. In Part 2 we are going to test it out real good in the forest on steep hills and in muddy water holes.

If there was ever a machine that deserves a *full* nut/bolt restoration, *THIS IS THE MACHINE* and it would be an amazing series to watch.
I wouldn't care if the videos were an hour long each, and there were 10 or more of them. I hope you consider making this "Norway Bear" new again.
This thing is just way to COOL ! Hell of A find. It's going to be useful as all git-up.
Great to see this old girl get a new life. Little machines like this can do a lot of work on a farm, are tough as dirt and they don't break the bank.

The long tube taking the back wheels was the connection for a two wheeled hoop with four over cam log lifters. Mine would drag four quite big trees. Loved it. Oh and there was two skis that could replace the wheels on the drag. It was nice to see one running again

It's like a Briggs and Stratton. You grind the end of the valve to get proper clearance. (Maybe?) That is so cool. Nothing like that around here! (Tennessee, USA)

Valve lash is set at 7 thousands of an inch on intake and 11 on the exhaust. You have to file off the end of the valve stem to get the proper clearance.
@Urs Reaaly solid engines - I just binned one as it was beyond economical repair(carb, exhaust, linkages......), so replaced it with a 9hp Honda, and fitted the MAG Dynostart onto it! BTW I have a Gutbrod smallholding tractor.
This thing is made with everything and anything from snowblowers, bicycle parts, shovels, dustpans, and even a cement mixing pan lol I love it!
..... I was a M60A1 tank crew member in Germany... This machine reminded me of those days in the early 1970's ... H Co. 2/2 Armored Cavalry Regiment- Bamberg Germany...

Love your channel. Just a thought. Keep pull rope to your arm length so it always leaves the crank. Too long and murphy's law operates. Loose rope always coils onto something and could break your arm or finger if it is the pulley, especially with a kickback. Stay safe.

What fun watching you resurrect this old timer... I cannot wait to see more on this unit... And I really like your shop setup. I'm an old SRABEE mechanic and a 100% DISABLED VET , so I don't mech much anymore, but your shop sure temps me... Kerpnup the good work .. I hope you end up painting that beastie a forest green or something close to it. 👍👍

Great fun video! I worked at a saw mill in N. California, and I worked on the heavy equipment there. They had a 100 foot crawler crane(P&H) that broke a track one day, and the operator crawled off and into the mud on that side. That one track was incredibly heavy, and we had to use a cat 320 excavator to lift it back onto the rollers, then a come-along and sledge hammer to get the new pin back in. Each plate had to be over 500 pounds(227 kg). We also had to build a large platform under the counterweight out of timbers, topped with 1" steel plate, two 50 ton hydraulic jacks, and tip the crane up just high enough to drag that track back under it. A week later, it blew that old engine. Good times! The boss found one online at a ship yard. It came out of an old military ship, was well maintained and ran great. It took 3 of us about 5 days to replace it.
My grandfather worked for Queensland Main Roads. Once one of their Caterpillar D9s threw a track. The track got bound up in the running gear and jammed the pins between the links so badly they had to use dynamite to split the track and remove it!

Awesome! I've cut some trees for home heating in Northern Minnesota, I can see how this beautiful machine would be handy for getting logs out of the woods in the snow.
Yes, if it is tight and muddy or lots of snow this is really great. I will build some kind of bracket it the back that lifts the logs up a bit from the ground in front. That would help so you dont have to drag them in the soil or over rocks. Gets stuck easy. /Richard
Dude that thing is awesome. What cool machine, particularly love the little bonnet/ hood , whatever toy call it. Loved this.
This motor was made in Switzerland. The brand name is MAG which means Motosacoche Acacias Genève. This motors were used mainly in agriculture machine specially for use in mountain areas for cutting gras or for water pumps.. They also produced motors for motorbikes and had their own brand of motorbikes.

That is one cool machine! As much as I'm for keeping them original, I think it would look really neat with some fenders to help keep the operator clean and safe. The front PTO drive reminds me a lot of the walk-behind tractors that Gravely and several other companies made. With a few attachments, this machine would be more useful than imaginable! Keep up the excellent work! 🙂

The front end looks like a walk-behind because it is, It's a Motostandard U10 built in Germany with a Norwegian conversion to tracked forestry tractor. There were several companies converting two wheel tractors in Norway back in the day.
@@ThorAlexandre interesting! We had a few companies that made various attachments here in the US, but nothing like this to my knowledge. Recently the walk-behind tractors are gaining popularity again, just a few years ago you couldn't even give them away. It makes me wonder if there's something like this sitting in a barn somewhere nearby. Either way, my interest is piqued. Thank you for the information! 😀

I can remember seeing years ago one with a Front pto driven circular saw attachment. It was sat at right angle to a portable slab track and logs pushed past the blade, the blade head also had angle adjustments on it up to 90° from the vertical.

Very cool machine. It looks like it really wakes up your senses and awareness. When the front wheels went off that last log, I thought you were catapulted over the top but you handled it real good.

Pro Tip: When replacing Handle Grips, and you want them to Stay on there and not spin or slide off.... Use a drop or 3 of Liquid Dish Detergent, put it on your finger and smear it around the inside of the grip , just a little bit will do and when it drys it bonds well and wont "Glue" it in place .. also makes it easier to remove later as you only have to get some water down in it and soak for a few and off it will come . Cheers .
Please paint the tractor please p paint it it looks awful at least paint the bonnet and maybe paint to trust black please
Pro tip: apply hairspray to the handle bars and inside the grip, they will slid right on and dry quite rapidly, snug as a bug in a rug.

You ought to see what a friend of mine has and can build he built a dump truck about the size of this machine , and the awesome log splitters he's built , and a truck he called Frankenstein , he could build you an army tank out of a pile of scrap metal ...

I'm betting because the engine was so clean inside with very little baked on carbon build up and those valves with a large unground margin at the edge,. I think that engine has very little run time on it

I've found it easy to remove grips to use compressed air with a blow gun. It'll inflate it blow it off.
Be careful going over things that will cause the machine to tip forward suddenly! I had a machine simmer and got thrown off in the path! Lucky, after a bit, with no one pressing the throttle, the engine stalled. If it had continued to run, I would have been ran over! Lucky, I don't know that final outcome!

Nei Reinhardt Maskin i Kristiansand Noreg, hadde ikkje noko med Moto-Standard å gjere, Det var LOG som importerte og selde Moto-Standard i Noreg, men òg Felleskjøpet selde Moto-Standard. Reinhardt Maskin importerte Agria to-hjulstraktorar frå Tyskland, som dei bygga om til fire-hjulstraktorar med rammestyring og 4WD og kalla dei "Grombasen", men dei bygga òg om Agria to-hjulstraktorar til belte-traktorar og dei vart kalla "FR-Drabant", og begge desse traktorane selde Reinhardt Maskin som norsk produserte traktorar(Made in Norway). Det var mange mekaniske-verkstader i Noreg som laga utstyr og reiskap til Moto-Standard to-hjulstraktorar, og det var fleire mekaniske-verkstader som laga tilhengjarar, Gjønnes mekaniske-verkstad(Orkel) i Orkdal laga frontvogner til Moto-Standard, ein mekanisk-verkstad i Voss laga belte-utstyr og vinsj(Vossavinsjen) til Moto-Standard, det er mogleg at Richard´s Moto-Standard har belte-utstyr frå Voss, Underhaug laga òg reiskap til Moto-Standard, slik som gjødselspreiar, hyppeskjær, harv og potetopptakar, Kyllingstad på Jæren laga plogar til Moto-Standard, men slåmaskina til Moto-Standard var laga i Tyskland av Raspe.
