    Wow, this was seven years ago. I am new to this hobby. I purchased a couple of dolls that I had been admiring so I could have something to use as examples to give myself some kind a guide for when I buy some kits to try my hand at painting. I've watched two or three other videos, but I definitely learned more about color details from this video. Thank you.

    I got my Nu-Wave oven, and used it yesterday. I put a layer of acrylic paint flesh color, diluted with a lot of distilled water, using a LOT of my air dry varnish. (More than I usually use of the varnish). It came out great. The next 2 layers of paint went on very nicely, leaving a nice "matte" finish. I plan on using the oven again on the very last coat of thin paint with lots of air dry varnish (Plaid glass & tile medium). I like the way the finish is (very matte) so far.

    Thank you so much for this video. I have wanted for a long time to reborn with my granddaughter. I am disabled on S.S. and a very limited budget. I was thrilled to see I could use the acrylic paints. It may take me months to afford even the discounted kits from Bountiful Baby, but I am working on an Ashton Drake doll she had. Taking her glued on hair off was the hardest part! I need to get her a new body, since this one is weighted down with sand. So I need to get a new body and glass beads etc for this one before I can even think about purchasing a kit. When I priced everything I would need going with the Genesis heat set, my husband rolled his eyes. Since my medications and things cost so much, I can afford this way a little better without hurting our family budget. So it was a very helpful video. I will be referencing it in the future. My plan is to work on the Ashton Drake and each month perhaps, purchase paints, brushes, etc. This is not a sob story, just an explanation as to why I may be asking more questions in the future. You a so very sweet and patient. God bless you,
    Michele

      @buckiannscreations9089 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Theres no reason to switch from sand to glass beads.. it's just a way for reborn artists to drive up the price plus glass beads can crack causing glass dust, not healthy to breath in..white, sterilized playsand is just glass before its melted anyway lol . Pour it into balloons, don't overstuff, tie it up and wella!

    • @constitutionalrepublic1966
      @constitutionalrepublic1966 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@buckiannscreations9089 if sand gets wet, mold and bacteria will form and destroy your dolls. Glass beads in pantyhose tied off and inserted will weigh your baby, with poly fill to block the limbs entrance. All limbs/head needs weight to imitate a real baby. Artists get touchy about others using sand, marbles, metal pellets, or other similar items that would damage and show or feel when holding them. There’s no set standard for reborning supplies at the moment. You can get glass beads and poly Phil on Amazon, in bulk and cheaper than you may think. It’s taken me a year to buy everything monthly to start reborning, including kits on sale and reborn painting needs because I’m on a fixed SSDI budget. I splurged on a better kit or bulk items if it’s on sale to afford them. Once you start making $$$$ from selling them, you can buy a better item like acrylic versus glass eyes, which aren’t that much more in cost IF you want, or to make your dolls look more authentic to collect or sell. I bought glass eyes for my two 28” kits in case I sell them. . You need to know if you like this artistry before going further in price and material costs. I paint Crafts so these Apple barrel paints/brushes are already in my paint area. It overlaps into other painting projects I love to do. If I don’t like apple barrel to do reborns, , then they will be used for other painting, and my Arteza brand will be used instead, after my reborn air dry starter paints are finished up. Nothing will go to waste, but this hobby is very pricey to start and maintain supplies. I saw a video about using Apple Barrel and Folk Art to paint, then I realized they could work more professionally instead of using super expensive, reborn paints to start.

    Great tutorial i started painting my own dolls a few years ago too using air dry paints as i find them more natural and realistic looking than GHSP plus im allergic to GHSP and rubbing alcohol both give me severe migraines, the air dry paints i use are Lillian trigg from the UK as thats where i live and i love to mix my own shades and tones to get the right colour xx

    Hi Sharon,it's Beth. You've been helping me a lot. I just wanted to tell you. After my 4 various layers and shades of flesh. I did my first motteling layer. And WOW. it totally brought this baby to life!! I impressed myself. Lol...I did veins on the head. But not on the limbs yet. They are hard. No idea where they go. Newborn veins are different than my 63 yr old veins. Haha. I'm glina start the creasing. I'm going to send you a photo when it's done. It's going to be bald unless I try to paint or pencil hair. Going to root eyelashes. I have an art background so I'm comfortable with a lot of the aspects. I thought snout buying cheap women's false eyelashes and root and trim down. Whats your thought on that? You so very helpful to me and I appreciate it so much!!! Thank you p.s. I also to needle felting with wool would this needles work on hair routing? They have barbs on them tho..

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, a felting needle would work to root hair. The drug store fake lashes look too thick and have too dark of a line. I would go to Bountiful Baby when you have enough things to buy from them since their shipping is $14.95 flat rate.

I might sell some but I am unsure, since I don't want shop problems. At least by the end of this year I will make a werepup, a baby avatar and possibly golden freddy. Once again, thanks for this vid, this deserves many views and for your channel to be known.

    Do you have to put the last layer on with genesis heat set paint or could I do another layer of just glass and tile medium with distilled water?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can use just glass and tile medium. You don't need distilled water. Just pounce it on evenly. You have to keep changing your cosmetic wedge so it leaves a matte finish - use every surface of the one sponge.

      @court.inthemiddle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you just use the glass and tile medium will the paint hold on nicely? Or is it easily prone to damage? :)

    I'm expecting an ashton drake newborn doll to be here any day now and I'm thinking about eventually giving it a realistic makeover. I've never done this before and I never bought anything like these before. Not sure why I wanted one all of a sudden, I think because I'm getting sad about the future (I want more children and I dont see it happening...I'm 31). So I thought doing this would make me feel a little bit happier? Anyways, I've been watching videos lately and I came across someone turning their ashton drake doll into a reborn? So I wanna do that when I get all my other projects finished. Glad you mentioned that the genesis paint gave a chemical smell, I really don't want that smell. Happy to know it can be done with acrylic paint. I also plan on using human hair extensions to use as the rooting hair and eyelashes

    What are the best undertone colors to use under the eyes.

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Black cherry red, blue, and a little purple. I end up using a final coat of red in the creases under the eye, sometimes a brick red, and sometimes a cherry red depending on the overall color of the baby.

      You don't need to heat if you use an air dry matte varnish to seal. I suggest Folk Art outdoor matte sealer. It's getting harder to find however. Good luck and thanks for watching!

      You just take a video with your camera or phone, and go to youtube and click the "Upload" box. Then you find your movie wherever you stored and named it on your device and click upload. You can put a description as to what your video is about. It's so simple! You'll be amazed. Hope this helps. Sharon

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You don't need an oven if you are using acrylics. If you seal the baby with Folk Art glass & tile medium at the end, that will serve as the sealer and matte coat. I particularly like using Genesis Matte Varnish mixed with Genesis Thinning Medium and baking it in my Nu-Wave oven, but you don't need to do this if you seal with the glass & tile medium. Hope this helps. Sharon

    I’m enjoying going back and discovering your old videos as I learn to reborn! Do you know an alternative to E6000 for gluing magnets in the head for pacifiers? I prefer not to use E6000 since it’s cancer causing and I have chronic health issues. Would Gem Tac work?

    • @lifewithsharonb5138
      @lifewithsharonb5138  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Gem Tac is used to glue hair inside the head and to put applied eyelashes on open eyed babies. I don't know of any alternative to E6000 for gluing magnets. Sorry. Try googling it. Maybe a rubber cement that is odorless? I don't know.

      I always recommend folk art matte - sorry about your doll. If you have folk art outdoor matte sealer, try putting some of that on. I have a tutorial on how to do that. It may not work, but then again. it just might. Good luck!
