You have convinced me to strive to play Schumann. When I was young, I wanted to play Chopin and Beethoven. I got somewhat older, and I wanted to play Brahms. I am 72 years old. I have practiced piano only on and off. I am retired now. I am practicing mostly Beethoven, Mozart and Brahms. Wrist injury has prevented me from practicing Brahms & Beethoven like I did when I was 50. I have to play mostly Mozart -- but I still practice Beethoven, Brahms, & Schubert. Thank you for encouraging us to keep striving at music. It really helps when you tell us to keep striving.
I probably heard all versions of this masterpiece. For me this one is the most achieved I ever met. Each voice is very clear, the pedal is very discreet, your gesture is full of a life sticking to the music. You may have been Schumann in a previous life ;-)
It will be midnight on the 29th in Hong Kong, where her parents live, when @Tiffanypianist opens this gift to us. Makes sense when you recall her saying that a birthday is a time to celebrate not yourself but your mother, “who did all the work”. An unconventional view, perhaps, but one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. On the long list of things to admire about Tiffany is that she has never forgotten where she came from, in more ways than one; 😉 that is a cardinal virtue in Chinese culture. A healthy ego is a necessity for any performing artist, but with Tiffany, the sense of gratitude for all those who have supported her in charting her lonely path to greatness is never far from the surface - and is acted upon through her charitable endeavours, the way she has found to give back. A more grounded and wholesome “celebrity” (if you count someone who has more than a quarter of a million followers on TH-cam) would be hard to find. If I were one of her parents, my heart would be bursting with pride in this remarkable young woman they can call their daughter. Happy Birthday, dear Tiffany! 🎶🐿
Hello, FL. Could you respond to me at my email at 100silverdragons@gmail.com? I would like to ask you questions and make comments for your consideration pertaining to the subject above. I felt I could reach out to you because your comments above are insightful and sincere. However, have you ever had an angelic person in your life who has done something substantially wrong? They have seriously crossed the line...and yet they are a sweetheart. I also have a kind nature, but am not sure what to do when an otherwise considerate person has made a faux pas. Corresponding by email might allow us to commensurate freely. I would deeply appreciate your help, especially since you are likely as busy as I am. Thank you.
I just happen to read through the comments and saw this. My respect for Tiffan'ys parents is as huge as my respect for Tiffany herself [even though I sometimes tease her 😏]. That she has parents who gave everything they could to support her in what is an extremely difficult career is utterly priceless. How many kids take for granted what their parents do for them, and how many kids grow up in a dysfunctional home and have to struggle (and often lose that struggle). Besides her culture and upbringing, Tiff is mature enough, even at her young age, to realize that and be thankful. Priceless as well. Regarding another comment further down: nobody is a saint, neither is Tiff. It happens that someone hurts a fellow, often without bad intent. Happens to me quite often 'cuz I can't keep my mouth shut. Tell me about an artist who is easy to deal with, and I give you 100 symbolic Dollars. And I should know; I have worked with artists all my lifetime...still do.... just my 2 cts.
@@andresgunther Thank you for responding, Andres. I could use help from insightful people. If you have further thoughts on this subject please reach me at 100silverdragons@gmail. Yes, I put her on a pedestal. I admit that is my fault. But is anybody in this community able to blame me for putting her on a pedestal? Right...I didn't think so. This would be easier for me if she was a total asshole. Then I could just rip her a new one and feel glorious about it. But she is a sweetheart. WTF? This is complicated further by the fact that I am usually kind. No, I cannot claim to have always succeeded at kindness. I wish that I could. But I am mostly kind and wish to be considerate to her. It's just that she......Ugh! Thank you for understanding, Andres.
Hi Tiffany! I just wanted to express my gratitude for your wonderful, passionate playing on TH-cam. You made me start appreciating Schumann's Music. I have never really put my attention on his work because I didn't know more than his,, Träumerei" but since you have already played lots of his music and shared it on TH-cam, you have kind of introduced me to his music. Shortly said: Without you I would have never got to know and appreciate Schumann's work. The more pieces you share with us, the more I like his music. So, thank you!
No way!!!!! Knew that Schumann was one of your favourites and hence I thought you might play this piece, being the aweesome pianist you are! So excited!!!!
I can honestly say, being Schumann one of my favourite composers, that this is the best performance of the Sonata I´ve ever heard. No one has put the required passion, emotion, loneliness and despair that Tiffany displays here. She even manages to follow Schumann´s indications in the last bars (Schneller....Noch schneller) which are normally underestimated because one thinks it´s impossible to give even more. Overall, you couldn´t have given me a better gift. This is the only way Robert would have performed it.
I completely agree with every thing you said, except for the last point. I don't think Robert COULD have performed it like this... maybe Clara, but I don't think Robert quite had the "chops" to pull off a performance this great.
@@MaestroMcQ before he developed his hand ailment Schumann was quite the virtuoso. Clara’s father thought he could make Schumann into a pianist who would rival his famous daughter.
Tiffany, I had a rough day and this piece was a bandage on my soul. Thank you so much. You are so very talented and dedicated to your craft. Such a blessing to culture.
Wow, this was an incredible performance! This is one of the most exquisite concert performances I've ever seen! Thank you for sharing your talent and passion with the world, Tiffany!
Happy birthday Tiffany! ✨💗🎶 I play piano too and I always admire the way you communicate with the piano whenever you are performing. Every time I listen to you play, I wonder what you are thinking in that moment. Looking forward to the livestream! 💕
Happy Birthday, Tiffany! You have inspired so many people and you are truly showing the beauty of classical music! Thank you for all you have done, you might not know that you have impacted so many people! Have a wonderful rest of your day! :D
Thank you, Tiffany!!! Loved it! Happy Birthday and may you always have all this energy to build fantastic beauties like that, and help the world to be a better world (what you certainly do)! I miss listening to you in person!
HAPPU BIRTHDAY TIFFANY you have inspired me to pick up my piani after 2 years thank you for showing me what classical music can be. Hope you eats lots of cake and are very happy today. God Bless you and your family ♡♡
Thank you for introducing some of us to the mastery of Schumann’s work, Tiffany. I’ve rarely seen such transcendently accomplished performances at the piano before. There is a wondrous semblance of spirited reprieve in your tone - one technically proficient enough to speak free the unshackled utterances privy to the realms of certain emancipation. The heart of the composer is brought back to vital life once again, when such a perspicacious fire courageously melds the notes on the page to the mystery of a heart that beats for all those unfathomable inner worlds patiently waiting to be found.
Happy birthday Tiffany!! I've been following you since I saw your performance of Chopin's fantasie impromptu, and it inspired me to dust the piano and keep on going. Thank you so much for your content and personality, wishing you an amazing day and year ahead
Happy birthday Tiffany! Thank you for bringing Robert’s spirit back to life. His passion and pain is clearly heard and felt through your playing. Gorgeous and terrible, it brought tears to my eyes.
My God, how have I never heard this piece before? Tiffany, your playing is exquisite. I would like to think I could tackle this piece, but I don't have the technique to play that fast accurately and without pain. So I shall just live vicariously through your playing. Thanks for sharing your talents with us!
Thank you, Tiffany, for this wonderful birthday present! (You and I share a birthday, and my surname is the Americanized version of his!) And I trust that this is indeed also a birthday present for you, being what you so love to do! [BTW, our birthday is also shared by Ted Danson, Marianne Faithfull, Jon Voight (all still with us), and the late Mary Tyler Moore, Billy Mitchell, Pablo Casals, and President Andrew Johnson.] Happy Birthday!! Fred
I dont understand most Schumann's pieces but your performance in this sonata was like if your soul could speak through your music if that makes sense. I really enjoyed it and thank you for sharing it. 😊
Played unlike any other recording of this piece. The outpouring of passion... the flying tempo. Perhaps this piece would have become more well known if someone had earlier interpreted it as well as you. I listened to some other recordings and they are all so tame in comparison.
I'm a sucker for the G minor scale. It gives a shifting mood of romantic, expressive, and excitement where you can also showcase burning passion that may be mistook for anger. She displayed all of the qualities flawlessly 🎆🎇🎉 Thank you for this wonderful present Ms. Tiffany Merry Christmas
Stunning performance, Tiffany. I attempted this Sonata once but it was a bit beyond my technical ability and I could never bring it up to tempo. As one of, if not the most technically challenging compositions by Schumann, you completely crushed this performance. Bravo!!
A high passionate performance with a great technique... But I'm waiting for Schumann's first Sonata. I want to hear this mega masterpiece from a prodigy like you.
If you like her music I would encourge you to subscribe her on Patreon. That goes for other musicians too. Most of them are seeing a drastic reduction in income due to the pandemic.
Thank you so much! For this video, and for making the concert available. I don't know much about (classical) music, but this had serious impact. To me there is also this apparent contrast with your vlogs where you seem more subdued (not sure if this is the right word, not native eng speaking, and def not meant as critique, I like how genuine you seem and I don't like ppl who think they have to be/act loud and overly energetic, maybe 'normal' is a better word) versus in this performance with so much fierceness (among others) which is quite overwhelming, absolutely love it ;)
Wonderful it was stunning to hear and see how Tiffany played this difficult and challenging piece with excellence & greatness !!! Love from Canada!!!😃❤️

Not even Argerich or Gilels or Richter? Don't be such a fanatic. Your last sentence is proof of a biased and very mediocre mindset.
