Rafal shows every bit of why this is still played today. The emotion behind this piece is a rollercoaster. You'll find yourself looking at your hands differently after this video.
For me, one of the best sonatas of the romantic era, even if it still have that classical feeling, the sonata is so well writen, the theme and develope are mesmerazing.
Ive listened to lots of people play this piece but most are just a series of wild rushed splashes. This is definitely one of the best - clear and most importantly, controlled playing.
Fun story, Chopin never reciprocated the friendship that Schumann was trying to build towards him, he often declined his invitations. Schumann dedicated his Kreisleriana to Chopin writing on the sheet "to my *friend* F. Chopin", Chopin felt obligated to return the favor, and wrote on his 2nd balade a much colder mention "A Mr Schumann". It is said that Chopin didn't share Schumann's view on music and found him too eccentric and tiring. I have an immense respect for both of them and am just amused by this demonstration of opposed personalities.
@@vulkanosaure At the top of my terrible memory I believe that Chopin referred to Schumann as 'Shumann', which just goes to show how coldly he (Chopin) felt of the Great Schumann... Correct me if I'm wrong though.
This early music of Schumann is music one would have thought came from his last years when madness and restlessness overtook him . it is maddeningly rushing and busy .Argerich ,Annie Fischer and others play it . I can't imagine Schumann poet Perahia or Ivan Moravec playing such mood changing music . The 3rd Sonata gets played more but this is wondrous and crazy , unsettling music of a wild , restless young man full of ideas and outlandish dreams . Carnaval is well-behaved and yet one would expect Florestan &Eusebius to act up as this piece does but Carnaval always to me seems to make sense !
I wonder if this is the piece Proust refers to in "Swann in Love". "The painter knew that Vinteuil was very ill at the moment and Dr. Potain was afraid he would not be able to save him...The painter had heard that Vinteuil was threatened with mental illness. And he declared that one could perceive it in certain passages of his sonata..." Mr.Blechacz is perfect. Beautiful performance.
Is he the best pianist ever? I know he still has a career to develop...but I mean... I find him stuggering. I'm speechless almost every time he touches the piano. Have you listened to his Polonaises album? Oh my...
His performance is awesome and spectacle beyond my expected world of CHOPIN's reminiscence of the greatly appreciation of the warmth and the aspiration for the music of CHOPIN.
Technique really is an illusion, isn't it? He uses no body weight as teachers tell you to do. But his playing lacks nothing at all. Compare tool Trifonov hunched over the keyboard. Bravo to Rafal!!! This is the first time I understood and appreciated this sonata.
@@Joseph-ms3iq But is that really a problem? Or is it that he's being compared to a convention we've come to accept as the norm. I suspect it's the latter.
FINALLY a music video where the camera doesn't change takes and angles every 5 seconds, 90% of them on the (feigned) expressions of the pianist instead of what really matters (hands and feet). [Seriously, who actually enjoys those hideous takes from behind the piano where you see only the pianist's face framed by the piano?]
Hello! I'm a developing pianist. If you follow me you could watch me play Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Beethoven, Bartók and many other composers. That would help me a lot. Thank you so much!!!
The ever changing moods of this Schumann piece.....Mr. Blechacz is genius in music. He is a good storyteller. I enjoyed this performance.
Sure! Completely agree...

I saw live in Vienna he was playing this piece of music at his recital in 2018. Intense memory for me, that reminded me of that day. He is special.

I cannot breath anymore this is so blissful 😭❤️
What can I say, but this is a breathtaking performance.

As Schumann once said for Chopin: "Hats off, gentlemen, a genius!" 😊
If Schumann says you're a genius you know you are really something
Yes absolutely a genius

Veig els teus comentaris a varis vídeos... Ets català?
Schumann has very complicated even unique sensations
I can find Germanic style
He also owns excellent writing skills
happy birthday dearest Clara -- even after 200 years, your music inspires us...
Clara?
It´s op. 22, and in g-minor! The key and opus number written above fits to Beethoven´s Sonata in A-major, op. 101...

I hope more people play the original final ...

Meant to be Robert Shumann Piano sonata No. 2 in g minor, Op. 22 (Rafał Blechacz)
