The world's greatest skateboarding instructional DVD video, "Learn To Ride A Skateboard", is available in it's entirety as 7 episodes on TH-cam! This "Special Edition" includes updated footage not available on the DVD release.
Chapter 5 covers the following topics:
a.) Breaking the stereotypes of skaters
You can download the entire original "Learn To Ride A Skateboard" DVD for free at www.LearnToRideASkateboard.com
"When I created the original Learn To Ride A Skateboard DVD back in 2007, I wanted it to be available for free and I wanted to create the most detailed and thorough skateboarding instructional video ever made. Looking at other videos available for sale and posted on the Internet, I'm proud of the fact that Learn To Ride A Skateboard still provides more information and more detail than any other skateboarding video in the world. I'm stoked to be able to update a few parts and share this Special Edition of the entire Learn To Ride A Skateboard project on TH-cam for everyone to enjoy."

I'm loving these videos. I used to skate as a teenager so very very long ago in the 70s. Both boards and quad roller skates. I had one of those plastic ones that seem to have come back in. There were no skate parks near me so I made do with street furniture. I stopped when I went to Uni.
About ten years ago I bought a new board but hardly used it, because I felt so self conscious, and it sat in the closet. A little while I go I took up roller derby. I've gotten a lot fitter since I started playing. Then just the other day I joined some derby friends in the local park and took my board too. Since I had all my protection on anyway I swapped my 78A, 62mm wheels from my skates to the board and had a play. I'm very rusty but its relit the spark and I want to do more.
Thing is how do I get around the self conscious feeling of that everyone is looking funny at the middle aged woman walking around with a skate board.

How do you get around the self-conscious feeling of that everyone is looking funny at the middle-aged woman walking around with a skateboard.? Come to California. Being a middle-aged woman with a skateboard is pretty normal out here.

There are only two steps to follow
      1) Not give a fuck.
      2) Repeat step one.
Follow these steps and you will no longer feel self conscious. =)

This is SO AWESOME! I am a 26 year old African-American female and I just got a skateboard for my birthday this month. You can't imagine how shocked people are to see me on my board! It's almost hilarious! I am still learning but so far, I LOVE IT!
Thanks for showing the reality of who really likes to skateboard.

I started skating about 2 days ago, i knew the way to stand, balance and tick tac and that stuff but i never knew how to push off until this series so thank you.

I really love skating. I skated since 7th grade. Im now a freshmen in college. Though im not that good. And i quit for like these past couple of years, and i just started skating again this past week. People dont get discouraged when you cant do a trick or something. Keep trying and dont get intimidated when other people are better than you, skateboarding is an individual sport. Whenever trying something, dont hesitate, just go for it.

and thing is doing a fast one or at least at crusing speed,is different from a stationery or slow one.i cant find the moment to snap the tail for the ollie.if i tried i would either fall back or forward.i dont know if im making sense but moving and stationery have a different feel/weight distribution imo....and none vid i saw so far talks about it...its like the brigde to the next level like ollie-ing up curbs or going for a 50-50 grind....i know practice is impt but a tip could make it easier?
