Finally a honest video. All the other beginner videos don't break it down enough. They act like its easy. Pushing for me is really hard and I think I'm gonna stick to this series to get better.

Would be nice to have such nice underground for skatboarding, in my City even parking lots have bad ground so when you go downhill it still stops you after a while.

@Gamer Daily - No. I never feel self-conscious at the skatepark. age has nothing to do with skating. There are guys 10 years my senior who skate way better than me. Skateboarding is for anyone of any age. Check out these guys...

I just started skating about a week ago but thanks to our videos I was able to hit the local skate park within week 2 thanks a lot I doubt I would have been able to get good as fast as I did without watching these

Yeah keep your weight centred over your board! It takes practice to get it down perfect. Experiment with different feet positions as well.
As for tick tacking, just start off doing small movements and don't bring the front end of the board to high up. Keep your weight centered and lean slightly forward to counter that board flicking up!

@humor527 - Jumping off is a great option, as long as you are moving slower than running speed. If you are going faster than you can run, it tends to end badly.

You're not the only one learning at that age. Besides it doesn't really matter how old you are when you skate, having fun is the main part.
i can help! i learned to ollie by practicing in really flat grass. if you fall it dosent hurt that bad because you'll be in the grass, and once you feel that you got, you can do it wherever! that's how i learned

In used to the old school 10" boards from the 80's. I picked up one of these modern ones and its a lot harder to keep your balance. Then again, I'm starting out again after 20 years of not skating and I suck.
if you live in the uk try skate hut or newtons shred. if you live in america just search online or go to your local store

how do i practice skating in the winter if i don't have any skateparks near me? i want to street skate. but i still need to teach myself how to get moving. any tips??
Thanks, but i mean would it help that i already know how to keep my balance. Another problem i had was the fact that on a surfboard im regular, but when snowboarding i can switch easily between goofy and regular with no problems, how do i know what i am on a skateboard?
put on some protective gear and try it. You may look stupid but it will give you the confidence to do it. Also try doing an ollie on grass or on a carpet first so that you know that if you fall you won't get hurt hitting the ground.

when i push and start moving my board last about 8 seconds and then stops
I'm a beginner and just got a cruiser. I tried a classic skateboard before but for some reason I find a cruiser more comfortable :P Maybe it's cuz i'm pretty small I don't know. I still freak out when I get near a hill though :P Working on stopping at the mo.

how loose do your trucks need to be to carve that well? Do they need to get to the point of wobbling around if you shake the board?

I have a longboard. When riding a longboard I would assume that the foot stances you have been demonstrating do not apply. Where should I place my feet on a Long board? Also, is tick-tacking possible on a longboard?
The stances still apply on a longboard, you just have more options to where you stand. The middle. Up front. Near the back. Whatever you find comfortable. Personally, I tend to stand in the middle and just carve and flow. Yes, it's possible to tick-tack on a longboard, but it's really, really hard.

The first foot braking is using the tail, but the second one is using the toes...and i think you can easily twist you foot if you use the toes to brake at fast speed

@iamthebest20002me yes you want to put almost all your weight on your front foot. This will stabilize you and make you faster. Do this when you are pushing off too.

My only option for a skateshop is Zumiez. I broke a couple of Walmart boards and then got a pro model build from Zumiez. Is an 8.25 good for my first real skateboard if I have size 9 feet? I started with a Penny board and can do that pretty well. I'm thinking of going 7.75 when this deck wears out.
How do you power slide
Yes, it will wear out the tail eventually. I suggest you learn footbraking instead. Tailslides are only useful at slower speeds anyway.

Try foot braking if it's possible otherwise look up longboard slides they are often used to slow down and stop.
I'm right footed and my right foot is the back foot, my left foot is lead and I push with my lead while my body is facing the right. Is that right or...

I learned how to ride by going down a longboard hill. Then jumping off due to superspeed and skiding my whole right side plus my face on the ground. Pleasent right? :)
I'm new to skating and the only female skater on my school. My board is brand new and the weeks don't lean as much so it's hard to turn. Any tips on loosening them
