You always look so relaxed when you talk to the camera that's insane. But that relaxes us (or at least, me) too! I would love to see vlogs about your orchestra classes if your colleagues and conductor let you do this! It would be interesting to have a video of a piece from the very start to the final version (into the performance?) and see how you practice in between. Your work is so neat as always!

Thank you so much, I had a lot of fun making this video! That sounds like an awesome idea but I don't think my orchestra will allow me to do that but we'll see!

This is great Pete! ❤️❤️ It's great to see you in vlog form and it flows well! I'd love to see some visuals like sheet music screenshots or finger positions graphics to understand 😅.
Amazing and looking forward to following you on your journey 🎉

I love this video 🤩 hopefully you find the time and motivation to make more soon, I'd love to see your approach on pieces and I really like those longer videos 😊 btw you always say you're tense but it looks so relaxed 😅 oh and you're mostly using wrist vibrato, right? My teachers both actually told me that arm vibrato is a lot easier to not tense up when making it wide and that I should mostly use this one. Maybe you want to give it a try 😊 and another small tip: try to keep your shoulder as steady as possible while doing spiccato and only use your forearm and a little bit of wrist. I always get scolded for moving my shoulder because apparently it sounds better and you can speed it up much better 😅

Thank you so much Lilly, I really appreciate your kind words as always! There will be more videos down the line don't worry! 😁 Yes I use a mix of wrist and arm vibrato, I'm still experimenting on which one works best for what. I'll take your teacher's advice on the arm vibrato! Ah thank you for the tip on spiccato, this is something that's so new and I'm open for more advice🙏 I'd love it if you made a longer video on your practise sessions! 😁

Nice practice routine… wish I could shift as easily as you do! Did you develop any bad habits during your self-taught period? Now that I have a teacher, I am still struggling with my bow hold. How long did you play before upgrading from a student violin?

Thank you very much! I thankfully didn't develop any major bad habits. Like you, I'm still adjusting my bow hold and it's a challenge trying to get used to this. On the bright side I can really see this benefitting me in the long run. I played on a cheap violin on and off for 2 years during my self-taught period. Close to the time when I found a teacher I bought myself my current violin which is an intermediate student instrument.

@@peterquanmusic I have the typical Yamaha student violin so I’ll stick with it until I’m at the intermediate level. Happy practicing!

I started violin 8 years ago and i was in my 60s. I am now on
Suzuki book 7, but I cannot get the hang of vibrato. I think I am too tense. I have a teacher from Settlement Music School, a well known school . Any ideas? Nothing seems to work

Hi there, vibrato is one of the most HARDEST aspects of violin. Not only is it hard to execute but also difficult to teach! I was fortunate that my teacher taught me very early as an adult beginner. She has helped me by breaking down the movement rather than going for the full motion. She advised that I start out with my finger flexibility and slowly making my way to my wrist, then to my arm. I actually made a video on vibrato where I gathered everything I learnt, you can find this on my Instagram. I'm debating if it would be useful for me to upload it to TH-cam. What do you think? All the best with your violin journey 😊
