  • Hi there everyone, hope you are all well! I’m currently learning Vivaldi Concerto in A Minor (Suzuki Book 4) at my private lessons. I’ve been playing the violin for 3 years and I’m constantly challenged with new pieces.
This video has been requested for me to make by my Instagram followers as there are many who are also learning this piece, and who are generally interested to see how I practise. I wanted to share my techniques and ways in which I tackle pieces that I’m learning. I’m very fortunate to have a fantastic teacher who has helped me so much through the years and who has been extremely patient.
I hope that this video will inspire other adult beginners to practise. I wanted to show that practising can be fun by seeing things in a different perspective. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I did making it!

First of all, i could watch this forever, such an entertaining video and your 'stage-presence' is soo good! You definitely belong in front of the camera and not just behind 👏 second, huge thanks for the shoutout 🤩 I'm glad it seems to be a useful tipp about the string crossings! Maybe focussing even more on the first stop might help further, even if it's the easiest crossing. But stopping there properly might make it easier for the other ones to work 🤔
Another thing my teacher never failed to tell me during practicing vivaldi spring is, that if some notes repeat, you are never allowed to make it sound the same. Mostly, the best way to do this in baroque is by repeating it much softer. You're already doing this in many passages but it might help further to actively think about it 😊
Lastly, I'm so impressed how good it sounds!! 👏 those hard passage on the last page, i could never 🤯 and you have such a fitting style for vivaldi, your playing is really great and you improved so much over the last year 👏 all in all, cant wait for the next video 😍

Thank you so much for your heart warming comment Lilly 😊 Of course, you deserve to be recognised for your amazing work! Those string crossing tips you gave me are really useful, I need to work on them more to get better. My teacher said the same to me about the repeated notes, I'm glad we're all in the same page! Again, I can't thank you enough for the support you've given me through the years, I'm really glad we met 🥹🙏

Wow Peter this is such an amazing practice vlog!! Your intonation is really good too!!! I could literally watch you play this piece forever. I haven’t gone back to this piece for a bit and kind of abandoned it lol but seeing you play this again is making me want to get back to it again 😁😁😁😁

Well done! Your intonation was pretty good overall and your posture is amazing! I think you could work on shifting and string crossings. I wish you luck with your violin journey!

The repetitive and slightly progressive changing sections are common to the baroque, especially Vivaldi and Bach. These sections sound a bit hectic, and I think that is the purpose behind them. They actually sound great. IMO.

Surprisingly, I did very well with the Mozart piece in Suzuki 7 during today’s lesson. I thought it would be a complete mess.

You should try playing the repetead notes (A) with a crescendo and play them spiccato with the lower part of the bow

I am an adult learner, and currently beginning Suzuki book 7. I am much older than you. However, I have not yet gotten the hand of vibrato. I recall liking this piece. The first piece in 7 has difficult rhythm.

Great to hear you are still learning the violin! This piece is very fun but super challenging. I can't begin to imagine what the pieces in book 7 are like. All the best!

Thanks. Your tone is quite good. How long have you been on this piece?@@peterquanmusic

Thank you very much! I've been on this piece for quite some time now, since November last year I believe. I've also been practising a whole group of other pieces for my orchestra simultaneously. I personally chose not to move on from this Vivaldi piece as I wanted to perfect it with my teacher.

Great! Schindler's List has terrible string crossings. Are you able to accurately count the beats throughout the piece? That is something I struggle with.@@peterquanmusic

@@Shrinksjp Oh gosh I can imagine. Beautiful piece but a killer to play! Yes I'm getting a lot better at it. Orchestra has really helped me to understand how to keep my pulse. Especially since I'm leading second violins I HAVE to be on time!

Why are you playing Vivaldi Nachez and not the original Version of Vivaldi? 😀

    • @peterquanmusic
      @peterquanmusic  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It's the version that's in my Suzuki Book 4 which is what I'm currently learning with my teacher 🙂

Reminds me how much I HATE Vivaldi, playing sounds fine but the music itself sounds like something AI would generate.
