But with the rules you're following as well as the gracious removal of the barnacles and particularly the education that you offer with every video posted, this is inspirational for what could be everywhere. Do other new england states have the same size and other conservation laws? Back in the late 70's the lobstermen used to complain about Massachusetts raiders who would trap the really big lobsters and sell them in Massachusetts where they were considered legal.

@@FinnellRacing For sure. There is a real difference between American steel and Chinese "steel". Also the galvanizing process and plastic coating process make a big difference. I'll check that guy out, any video specifically?

I really enjoyed hearing you say that you sell the retired traps to the younger generation at a discount. I think Deadliest Catch has convinced me that all fishermen are in a big competition with each other.
Guinness World Records, the heaviest crustacean ever recorded was an American lobster caught off Nova Scotia, Canada, weighing 20.1 kg (44.4 lb).
50 lbs was a close guesstimate Jacob , I imagine if someone were to use those huge crab cages like they do in the Bering sea they would catch a 60 lb one in short order that is if they live to get that big .
I wonder how long it was?

My dad would always say how he and his dad would fly down to the docs when you guys would come in and get fresh Maine lobsters fly them back to Vermont and have dinner. I still do the same thing thanks for making these amazing videos mate❤

Yes!! I’d have to agree with this comment! A couple of additional cameras pointed forward and aft… they aren’t huge costs and could definitely add some footage that would otherwise not be caught. Although it may capture too much of Keith’s antics…. he could start his own channel from it?? 😂🤣

My dad captained a 1927 cedar-hulled flat-bottomed lobster boat that he ran as a dive boat for years. He used to put ground cayenne pepper in the hull paint to prevent worms and borers.

lol, yeah I get the cost of replacing the runners, yet, it’s part of nature, and from the videos I’ve seen you highly respect sustainability and protection. Chuckle as you provide more back to the sea for these Borers?
Man, I am shocked at the prices. I got out years ago in MA, but we could build a 36" 10-gauge 4 brick pot with oak runners for about the same as Friendship trap sold 12 gauge 34" pots, $60. They lasted 10 years, and the runners about 5. I never could stand those concrete runners.
"This is just seaweed". What kind of seaweed? Who eats it? Where does it grow? It's amazing how many things are connected to lobstering!
It looked like knot weed or wrack weed, a common cold water seaweed. It floats all around. Can't recall what eats it.

@@joanneganon7157 yip I can believe it my dads in his 70’s and is still fishing on his boat. I grew up around it but never caught the bug, but have always admired my Dad for being consistently passionate about the sea.

When I was 20, I went out to Sea for 1 month .
We were steaming scallop boats back to Texas.
Unfortunately, we started out in a huge storm off the Carolina coast, I was very seasick for days🫢.
That was enough for me!

Instead of wood runners , try binding the bottoms with strip rubber or rope. It's what all the brits use.

hey Jacob , those redfish we in the north atlantic (Faroe islands) call them kingfish, if you get stung by that fish (yes it hurts like hell) you poke a hole in the eye of the fish, and use that slime from the eye and cover the area good with the slime. and it takes away alot of the pain :)
I think it's cool that you're experimenting with bg music and branching out with your filming qnd editing taste. You gotta try things to find what you like, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some people aren't good with accepting change, and that's okay. Just gotta realize that change isn't a bad thing, and just chill and trust the process

Sounds like regular termites to me. I had a fiberglass boat but termites were eating the wood in the engine compartment, they don't eat the teak trim though
@@k.h.1587 Oh well, according to the owner, they were water/ sea termites. 🤷♀️The sailboat had been in the Gulf of Mexico prior to delivery to Key West. The damage to the bottom of the boat was extensive. Leading it to have hoses and wiring 24/7. Because it was sinking in the harbor. The rest of the boat looked lovely! 😁😉✌️
@trudy285 sounds like shipworms or borers to me, he probably used sea termites as a nickname. Of course regular termites can't go under water.
My marina had a tree infested with termites outside the office, which even got tented. Many of the boats were affected, but this is much different than what you experienced, however I suppose a boat with a non teak wooden hull could be affected the same way, just entered from above the waterline rather than below like shipworms and borers.
It was just bog standard termites that got to mine, but they couldn't do a thing to the fiberglass hull. I heard through the grapevine that they were even trying microwaves to get them out of the boat after I was forced to sell it to the marina after being evicted for a manic episode (which I my case only happens after prolonged high concentrated THC use, I am on the spectrum undiagnosed and didn't get misdiagnosed as bipolar till 35 after about 6 months of weed use and finally an "overdose" of my first edible. They are so quick to diagnose bipolar when it could be something else entirely. ... pharma$$$$$$$

Personally, l would never try an edible. Because l am so sensitive to so many things. And if you have to digest whatever you ate, that takes a while! Like if someone is trying to lose weight, the day they started to eat less/ healthier, it will not usually show up on the bathroom scale until two days later!

@trudy285 can't say that I am, it got worse over the years, in more recent years, the last decade or so, it was usually wax that triggered subsequent "episodes", I haven't been on regular antipsychotics outside of hospitalizations, but after my last one, I kinda shut myself In, stopped going to the Dr, so no diabetes (which the meds gave me to add to the hyperlipidemia) meds or lipid meds, plus a diet consisting mostly of little ceasers and jack in the box because they are close by and relatively cheap (Ceasars) or take ebt (jack), led to panreatitis and 2 hospitalizations over the last 2 years. On top of the loss of my van filled with a bunch of my music, telescope and photo equipment when I got arrested and the drawn out case I am dealing with, as well as legal action taken against my manic guitar center credit shopping sprees (which also happened back in 2011, so the fact that they let it happen again screams conspiracy), and the issues with the vehicle/registration that I financed during the episode (on foot fresh out of jail after totalling the first car I bought at the beginning of the episode), make me just wishing for a bomb to drop and just take me out already. I just want to go back to at least before this last episode, or any of including the first episode, or more ideally way back to about 95 or 96, and do everything differently. As I am sure many people wish for.
So no, not feeling much better in general, not in pain or anything, but when the hospital prescribed meds run out, which is very soon, who knows how long it will be till I am back in the hospital on morphine. A heart attack would be much quicker....
You said "brand new trap" at the end. What kind of wood is being used on those brand new traps? It might be nice to share so others can avoid. I'd think harder wood would last longer... and maybe they'll start making traps with the better runners.

If Im not mistaken back in the day I think they soaked the wooden traps with old motor oil . Not cool today

Thank you for the explanation of lobster fishing! In my country (the Netherlands) they fish for shrimp. Way smaller!
