  • For almost one hundred days the Faroe Islands - a small and isolated Atlantic nation - were under the initial lockdown, struggling together to avoid fatal consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
    ___________
The Faroe Islands are one of the few countries that dealt with the COVID-19 epidemic in a quick and efficient way. Thanks to a sense of collective responsibility and swift action, the Faroese avoided tragic consequences which could befall such a small and isolated population. To this day, no fatalities due to the virus have been reported, and the number of infected inhabitants didn't exceed 200 people.
Kuba Witek, the film's director, got "stuck" on the Faroe Islands during the initial lockdown. He used this opportunity to document the struggles of this small nation in their fight against a global threat.

    Thank you for this film.
It is finally dawning up on us, just how lucky we are, to live in this little country. Since May we have been able to live and behave close to normally. When Covid-19 came back in late July, the affected people and the people who had been around them, went into quarantine, but the rest of us could walk around pretty normally.
One day, when many were in quarantine, Hallur Joensen (the country singer) gathered a band, and they drove around the town in a truck, and had small concerts in neighbourhoods, and especially outside the houses, where people were quarantined. They had a concert outside my neighbours house, and people from the neighbourhood gathered together, and just had a good time, drinking coffee and dancing. The people in quarantine were inside the house with their windows open, and we’d all chat and sing along. This is one of my best memories from 2020.

It was my pleasure Sigriđ :) I had a wonderful time in the Faroes and I met a lot of nice people - Hallur's live show for the elderly people in Klaksvik is also one of my favorite memories from the lockdown. Takk Fyri!

Excellent documentary. I have been researching The Faroe Islands in great depth since mid 2019. The Faroe Islands as a country is an overlooked success story in the global SARSCOV2 pandemic.
Reasons for low number of cases/no deaths: Collective memory of the Plague (Similar to the people of Simeulue, Indonesia in regards to the threat of tsunamis who on 26th Dec. 2004 heeded the warning of the receding waters); Strong group identity - Mutual care, concern, respect, responsibility; Proactive testing (Resourceful and creative use of equipment usually used to test salmon); Excellent contact tracing; It's isolation (Island nations like Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, The Cook Islands and The Faroes have a natural advantage with ease of closing borders/boosting sovereignty etc.); Ongoing vigilance, like testing visiting merchant seamen etc.; Mindful, humanistic leadership; An obediant population.
    Længe leve Færøerne!

A beautiful and nuanced insight into the situation. Me and my family got on the last ferry trip back to the Faroese Islands before lockdown and went into isolation for two weeks. What a bizarre time..
The islands are still very open in February 2021 but we are all careful anyway. Vaccinations are afaik planned to be given to all adults before summer.

guys look this case of Feroe islands is the same as shetlands orkney and even Iceland the people who settled in all of this nations were vikings (norse white blonde genes) alongside with celts women (norse redhead genes) the vikings brought them all the way from British islands and here in all of these viking nations they mingleed together and the result of that union are the current people of these norse nations, so NOW what this video says is no women in the Feroes well the answer for this situation is women had more of norse white blonde genes which makes them to be big explorers in other words a huge eager for exploration while men were born more norse redheads which makes them to be more PATRIOTIC love for the native land so there you have it that's why all of this is currently happening

There were several new waves of Covid after this one which were also brought under control. Sadly the latest figures (4th. November, 2021) number 755 active cases, 5 deaths and 7 currently in hospital, despite 70% of the population being fully vaccinated. Many of the latest cases are amongst unvaccinated young people and children. Mandatory testing stopped at the borders in September, leading to regular unsourced positive cases within the community, people not testing voluntarily after two days, and people testing positive after 1, 2 and even 4 days after their arrival on the Faroes.
