Most of the commenters here don't understand that Filipino culture is very indirect and more feelings-based rather than appearance-based. "Love" is not equated with physicality but the willingness to sacrifice and give your family (including your husband/wife) a good life. Also, it's a usual thing in our culture to say "living with someone for 20 years is not enough to really know him/her". Saying that "my husband is just okay" or "I have no choice but to like him/her" is just standard Filipino humor, self-deprecating and indirect as opposed to European directness.
@@nightowl7261 in many cultures, that's how it works. It is used to keep the foundation of the family strong and united. Closed-mindedness like the one you displayed in your comment is the reason many people are reluctant to marry others from different cultural backgrounds. You are probably from the West.
As a Filipina myself, I can confirm that there are a large amount of Filipina who seeks for foreigners to get a better life or in short to get hold of their 'green card' mainly because to support their family or something like that (Filipinos are family oriented) but who I am to judge them because I've never experienced poverty, I should be grateful for what I have.
Yes i agree that filipinos are 100% family oriented people. I dont support filipinas using older white guys to have a better life and in the end cheated em and rob their money. I have a white husband i marry him because i love him not for the money. Plus hes not old. 🙂
I m Indian I worked in Kuwait 5 years n i fallen in love with one filipina she was single mother of 2 kids 5 years i had been in relationship with her.. she was a housemaid in Kuwait only 1 time we met in real n i always stand behind her that time n I took care her kids also as a real father n took care whole family even i wanted to marry her but she always replied Mahal still i m not ready in 2019 i cancelled my visa of Kuwait that time she back to the Philippines n living there .. then next year she went to the Taiwan n she had a relationship with her local man n went with him n break relationship she cheat me i suggest all the foreigners never trust filipina... "love is sacrifice" - true words. that lady who uttered these golden words obviously spoke from experience. she sacrificed a chance for love in order to give her children a better life. beautiful.
In 2017, Muhammad replaced William in the top 10 most popular boys' names in England and Wales. The research concluded that name has risen 35 places in the last decade and was at the eighth spot in 2017, with just taking two more years to become the most popular name in the UK.
Yes and no, isn't it? The children watch--what do they actually learn? That Mom "sacrificed"? Maybe, but IF she married for money and stability ONLY, do they also learn she sold herself? Is THAT a good thing to learn? Again, yes/no.
This situation is neither good nor bad, its simply human. Both parties want something, some people give more and some take more. My experience is that when two giving people meet they can have a very rewarding relationship. Takers can never be satisfied and will be unlikely to have a happy and durable bond.
Can see this situation in many places, many young girls/women from Japan and Sth. Korea, Europe, Australia etc., go to the beaches on Bali searching for their gorgeous hot beautifil body Bali beach boy. These boys (from 16 years old up) parade themselves up and down the beach wearing tiny boy bikinis or tiny G string bikinis. Most can speak good to excellent English, many have read some magazines on how to win/pamper a lady. Many of these boy strike it rich. And there's often a Balinese wife and kids at home getting the benefits of daddy being a hot gigolo. I was sitting on one of these beaches waiting for my son to finish his surfing lesson. A slow day for beachgoers, didn't take long for 2 Bali beach boys to offer their services to me. Always polite and pleasant, very clean, always well groomed. This is life.
I’m an Indian seafarer with a Filipina wife. About 23 years back I visited the Faeroe Islands on a small Reefer ship. I have just two things to say, if you marry the right Filipina, you are so so lucky, and the Faeroe Islands are among the most beautiful places on earth, with the most friendly people!
@Ron Dale I had not thought about that, but seriously - im sure that there are enough Nordic women around, and if they are not you should be focusing on encouraging them to stay in the Faeroes!
@Ron Dale I doubt a few Filipinas integrating into the population will change the Nordic ethnicity of the Faeroes. You have a shrinking population skewed towards the elderly, this might just make the difference in giving you a younger more vibrant mix.
A big shortage of native women is a big tragedy for a society. And it is so in many outlying places here in Scandinavia. And not all of us scandinavian men are only happy because we must get a wife from a poor country in South East Asia who are darker than us and with another culture. But the alternative is to live single all our lifetime. And without women no life. Sad but true. The word is brutal. I love my filippina wife and our two eurasian children but I still think is sad that our future in outlying places never will be a pure scandinavian culture in the future. But we figth for our oulying places and we want they shall live also in the future.
@@drdal Change is the one thing that is constant in this crazy world. I think that with the way things are going no place can live in isolation. However it is up to you as parents to instill the Scandinavian culture, regardless of the mixed ethnicity - and you have the mix of the fun part of the Filipino culture - so I still consider you lucky!
Would have liked for them to talk to the native women as well. A first hand perspective from the native women would have been excellent as to why they are leaving and how they feel about things in general
yrs the ONLY reasonably INTELIGENT Comment The women saying they want a less patriarchal husband, the men saying they want a woman who's more of a traditional woman. Funny that. DIScuss that with me please i would like that
well to be fair, they didint say they wanted none patriarchal or fully traditional, but less and more, aka in the middle. but it does at first glance looks ironic and complete opposites of what they want lol.
As a Filipina, I am embarassed of many Filipina women who forever stained our reputation as women - relying on a foreign man for economic salvation, bad mouthing our country - I am a proud Filipina, earned everything I had and enjoyed in my life. And no, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth and worked my butt out to prove to other cultures that we can and we are not less than anyone else. I hope everyone can do the same.

I don’t understand your high and mighty attitude about these people who seem obviously happy. He snagged a bride and she was happy to be bought. Be it for “love” or “survival” they made it work. She has a beautiful family and they appear to be happy. The only person bothered is you. What’s interesting is your attitude about something that you as a Filipino knows is common practice. Men from all over the world go to asia for marriage and sex and you know it. So stop acting like this isn’t common practice in the Philippines. Please 🙄
Lovely story - my mother was from the Faroe Islands but landed in mainland Denmark and fell in love with my Danish father. That was before Faroese was considered a recognized Danish language. She loved it when the Faroese got their own WRITTEN language and received letters from home with her own language which she had to adjust to. She loved it! I visited my family first time when I was 11 in 1956. The nicest family you could only imagine! I loved her temper - when she was angry she stamped the floor, never blamed us kids :-) I magine that coming from Asia like here must have been more than difficult. But my mother was very satisfied, although missed her family in the Faroe Islands. The first time for you from Asia to Faroe Islands must have been enormeously difficult - EVERYTHING new. (No written Danish until later Faroese) The Faroese are the most caring you can imagine! My brother and I LOVED it when she was angry stamping on the floor - they have a temper - and the most caring you will ever know! Now I am 77 - she taught us so much love!
Leaving poverty to start a new life with opportunities that are not available is wise. Everyone wins in this scenario. The Filipino definition of love is not the same as the western definition of love. True love is not a fleeting emotion like westerners think. True love is a commitment, a word that western women ignore and despise. People that criticize her choice are just selfish. She is happy, why can't you be happy for her and with her? She would do it all over again in a heart beat. That is love. She appreciates her husband and respects him. She is far wiser than the people here that criticize this story.
Correct. This is family. Live together, improve each other's lives, enjoy your days. This comment section could be a phycology thesis paper. My guess is that people in longer-term healthy relationships all agree with her decision. Single people looking for "love" or people jaded and possibly in a bad relationship think she sold out for money.
It's very hard to learn a foreign language, but the fact that she made an effort to be fluent with Faroese's mother tongue to have a better communication with the people around there is enough proof that she's well dedicated and passionate not only to the island and its language, but also to her husband.
The girl who married at age 20? She's been there for almost 2 decades already, of course speaking the local language has become 2nd nature to her as well
@@mjcortez2460 Are you asking if the husband learned the filipino language? Do they live in phl to begin with? Many foreigners who settled in phl and can speak the local languages (tagalog, bisaya etc). You can even check some of their vlogs on yt lol Thats the key context there, where they settled determines their spoken languages as well
I married an intelligent independent professional woman who was from China. She was never in need of being saved, by me or by anyone else. Yet that assumption persists sometimes in the eyes of strangers. It’s a tiresome cliche.

I just want to mention that my first love was a Filipina. She and I spent 7 year's in a relationship that can be summarized in one word, awstounding. Filipinas really value the idea of love. We had our bad times too, but we always ended up the arguments with a truce. She was loyal and faithful. Unfortunately, due to family circumstances, we were unable to wed. She and I separated because she felt that the relationship has no value any more, especially since we were unable to have a wedding. She still talks to me occasionally, and I always remember our says together. Of course not all Filipina are masterful lovers, some are not. The majority however are good women, and the culture plus upbringing makes them really good companions.

+Chyakhurs - People who think anyone of any other race or ethnicity, as somehow less honest, faithful, and "....dedicated to the family" are ignorant discriminatory racists. It's as simple as that. Human beings are essentially all the same the world over (and despite cultural or socioeconomic differences between nations). I could tell you horror stories about Filipinas (or other Asian women in my personal life, but I will spare you). At the same time I could tell you of positive stories of honest honorable Asian women (or women of any culture, race, ethnicity, etc.). People are people. You can't generalize entire races, ethnicities, religions, cultures, etc. When people do that (and we are all guilty of it), it shows their ignorance.
@@aaaza7953- What she is saying is probably true (in her experience). And in my experience I will agree, including Indians, Sri Lankans, Bangladeshis, etc. (of course it's a generalization). I had an Indian family living in an apartment below me, and they literally (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), produced the nastiest smells, that literally had me going to the ER from Asthma attacks. Does that mean that all these people are bad people? Of course not. I have known and worked with these people in the tech industry, and socialized outside of the working environment, and they are good people in general.
what a great people the Faroe islanders are, my hat off to them they are tolerant n welcoming honest n kind so this makes a lot of sense for Philippino women to be happy there as Philippino women are hard working n family orientated Great to see 2 people from a different culture been happy together n i would imagine crime is almost non existent in the Faroe Islands n that is priceless best wishes o them ALL
It's a marriage of convenience purely financial gains and stability.western men over the age of 45 are the prime source of this trend a win win situation. Though I give a credit to these lovely asian women resilience of adopting this kinda of life and environment.
@d puski I find women in general get a kick out of race mixing. I garauntee you that if each race of minority women fucked their men and only their men, the world would have less thirsty men who will then improve society at large.
I just watched another one of these videos, and one of the ladies dead ass said when she was dating her husband he told her where he was from and she thought she was gonna live in the pyramids 🤣.

@@Onlinesully Stories like this is why I avoid relationships altogether. I never dated in my life and by hearing stories like yours from multiple people, I feel like I am making the right decision to remain alone. I know I am a year late to respond to this, but I hope the situation turns around for you and good fortune comes your way (if it hasn't already). Do not give up hope for your life because you are worth it. You owe it to yourself to be happy and I wish you nothing but the best in your current (and future) endeavors.
imagine yourself, you live in a environment, that is unsafe in your life and you live in poverty, and you don't see any bright in your future. but then comes an individual who will offer you compassion, support, sympathy, respect and empathy. whether it is love or economic stability and so on. one thing is for certain, that all these women are very thankful, happy and they see a bright future ahead of them... If you were in there shoes, you would do the same thing
Also the environment is Northern European, we know what that means: safe, clean and not crawling with people. Dishonesty about love does not mean we are deluded; the woman is simply not in love with the dump known as SE Asia.
And that's how you got into abusive relationships, power dynamics are in advantage of these men. Western men exploited these Filipino and Thai women and took advantage of their desperation to escape poverty in their countries, convincing these women into having relationships with them so they can have a good life in a "rich Western country". While there are men who genuinely loved and respected their wives, many of these men are abusive and these poor women had no one to turn to as they are in a stranger foreign land.
You sound like a racist. No people is perfect. In the past couple of centuries, European countries were ethic cleansing (genocide) on many non-European people, sometimes in the name of the Church. Took native people's land and forced them into reservations. Then moved their own people into the stolen land (form of population relief). Then they introduced African slaves or indentured servants to work on the harsh land. Don't sit there on your high chair. You are falling off. If the European did not kill or take other peoples land, they might live in land that resemble the unsafe, overpopulated places you described. Remember the 10 commandments: Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods and others.

Salute to these women, I swear I would die in that Island if I were one of them, I hate the cold weather it's so depressing to me, but everything else looks nice specially the place and the people.
To everyone criticizing -- this is just the "old arrangement." Notions of romantic love are really pretty new and very western. In lots of places on this planet, young girls marry old men. Sometimes the parents sell them. These women coming to the Faroe Islands are at least more in charge of their own destiny. Its a tough gamble, both ways, but each participant has a specific problem to solve. Does it work? That's the question.
Please LISTEN to the video well before judging, and try to be optimistic, Filipina women going there, most of them have jobs, some, real good jobs, plus they take care of their kids and houses, and satisfied with the simple life, Those are good qualities, men in Faroe are thankful for.
I wish all these ladies all the happiness in the world. But I also hope that the Faroe Islands, one the world's best kept secrets, remain the Faroe Islands.
If you have a problem with different races mixing on the Faroe islands, that means you must believe that a racially pure people is superior to a mixed race people. I hope I don't have to tell you the name of this ideology and it's creator. My guess as to why some white guys "import" wives: As a white guy living where I live, I definitely feel more desired by asian and black women than by white ones. Maybe it's because white women are typically raised to believe that they're the center of the world, and they have such high criteria when it comes to men that a lot of us regular guys just happen to fall short. A man shouldn't have to live his life alone and never have a family just because the women of his race have lost their damn minds.
@@Verradonairun The new generation specially the women move away so the men are left looking somewhere else. It also doesn't help that the local women have such high standards (a big reason they leave the island.)

After reading through the other comments, I just need to say this to counter all the negativity. I don't think Filipinas who marry foreigners are ignorant of the prying eyes around them and the judgment thrown at them. But I admire them for standing by their man. And what's wrong with marrying to have a comfortable life? Isn't that what most people do? It's just bonus for some because they also get to marry people who fit their description of a dream spouse. Marrying for convenience is not a moral issue. Marriage after all is a contract. Both couples try their best to keep their ends. And the man whether he benefits less or more, made a decision. He consented to it. And the only moral decision he has to make is whether to honor his decision or not. All the judgments thrown at these women, if you can't provide them a good life then you have no right to judge them. Also do not impose your morals on them. Your circumstances in life are probably different from what they have. And our lives will be very bland if we all live the same lives. So all who are judging them, I bet you have such boring lives that you even found time to come here and spew negativity. Finally, I just want to tell the Faroese men thank you for taking good care of the Filipinas who became your wife. Never mind all the invective thrown at you. Just remain committed to your wives and raise your families well. If there are any signs of abuse, that is the only time we have the right to make any kind of intervention. But adult women who consent to these kind of marriages do not need any intervention from us and certainly not any moral judgment from us.
Marriage out of love does not always guarantee a happy marriage...but marriage without financial stability is far worse..not being materialistic but reality bites in when marriage produce children that couple needs to provide their needs, most of divorces and separation comes from the lack of financial stability (aside from infidelity of course), if you can have both worlds then there is no need to be bitter

Sometimes a Filipina isn't as talkative or a bit shy or apprehensive to speak specialy if speaking not in mother tongue. Sometimes also its not good to judge by one instance as it takes time to really get to know a person. In short, don't be quick to judge.

Exactly, they're looking for a better life in the NAME of love. I am sure there're men in their home countries that would want to marry them... They fled away from POVERTY
@@nwoke.ezu.ike_until_death If you knew the character of the average Filipino male* you'd understand why most women there would find it an easy decision to leave the country to marry a furriner. Like the one girl said, Filipinos are patriarchal, the more kids the better, whether they can afford to raise them or not; that, on top of their lack of education and unwillingness to leave the barrio for greener pastures, is why that country is so impoverished. When I married my wife we both knew what our motivations were, and both of us took an extreme risk, not knowing each other well enough. But we both felt that if we concluded we made a mistake, it wouldn't be difficult to do a re-set early on before we got too deep into the marriage. Fortunately -- and I do mean FORTUNATELY -- we remain happily married 40 years later, three wonderful kids and five precious grandkids, and we've made a comfortable and happy life together. But I recognize that we're probably the exception vice the rule. Like I said, it could've ended badly for either or both of us, because frankly neither of us was looking for love at that juncture in our lives. It just sorta fell into place. I don't blame any woman for wanting to escape that hell hole. My only complaint is that it's within Filipinos' power to fix it, and instead they are impervious to change and will do as little as possible to sustain themselves and their families. Frustrating to watch. *....and I mean AVERAGE. People are people always and everywhere; some very good, some very bad, and a LOT in between.
At the time of my watching this, the Journeyman Pictures TH-cam channel has 1.55M subscribers. That last 5 represents a number of people equal to the entire population of the Faroe Islands.
I am married to a Filipina, I have lived in the Philippines for years, and been around many Filipinas. The one thing I can tell you for sure is that most of those Filipinas are not happy in their marriage. They are there for convenience. Because those men provide a good stable life for them. These are conservative women so they will not tell you they do not love their husbands on camera but I am sure the rest of those women know privately. Their conservative values (commitment) keeps them in those marriages. It saddens me because I would love to see everyone in a happy marriage like I have. Nine years and still we are like newlyweds.
I think your type of marriage is utopia, and through ages at least 50% of marriages are lacking "real" love even from the begininng of the marriage. Some years ago I read a discussion about Thailand. There was a sentence: If a Thai husband doesn't start using the services of pr.s after one year of his wedding day, he is really a rare exceptional case. I'm a man who has been married 29 years to my own countries woman in 🇫🇮.
Don't be judgemental. Faroese man are very good husband. It might in their first years of marriage they don't love fheir husband but eventually they learned to love their husband because if their kindness. Kindness makes you the most handsome. Especially Faroese are handsome and tall.
It's interesting seeing documentaries on our country, and people moving here. Sadly the resources to help learn the language are still very lacking, but it is slowly getting better. I'm grateful more people are moving here, and diversifying our gene pool, and adding more general diversity
Second language in the Philippines is English. So some, can speak English, it depends on what level of their education, I guess. Most Filipina women married to any international men are most successful. FILIPINA WOMEN ARE FAMILY ORIENTED AND VERY LOVING AND 99% ARE RESPONSIBLY taking care of their love ones. 90% are successfully, happily married to them but never mistreat ‘em for regretfully on your part.
So lucky are these people who marries Filipina Women, how so lovely they are FILIPINA's neat and clean, so humble and in humility they are, but its so sickening when I heard and see them crying, due of jealousies that are happenings ill treatment by their husbands, sometimes I have heard they were sent into prostitution for its husband's needs, hitting and kicking their southeast asian partners, Am so proud of my KABABAYAN WOMEN, I so dedicate them in behalf of my wife whom my wife treated me well like a King, even my daughter to her husband,,,

Nikko Johnston. Most can speak it. Everyone there that i talk to can speak English. They are too humble because they don't think they can talk English correctly. I tell them I'm old and they speak better English then I do. You know what is surprising? They actually pronounce the words correctly. Not slang like we Americans do. And here's the best one for all of you. They are over 8,000 miles away and most talk English. Latin America is just a few thousand miles and some are right on our doorstep and they don't speak or want to speak English. They feel we owe them for taking their Country.

some stereotypes can be safely made because culture dictates behaviour. When asian women were told since young to be pious and subservient.. they tend to be less assertive. Western women were told to be "independant" and pushy. You can't force a man to like a pushy white lady just because.
You’re woefully naive. Economic migration is paramount in this case, not love. Russian women marry American men to get the hell out of Russia, no matter how the WOKE would try to call it “love.”
Filipinas will endure anything if it means they can raise a family and send money to their parents. Thais want the same thing. but many simply cant live without a little piece of Thailand around them - the food, a Buddhist temple, other women to gossip with and - I hate to say it - a warm climate. The 'depths' of Winter in Chiang Mai would be a very nice day in this part of the world, and that has to take its toll. The Thai woman who has elected to stick it out after her divorce is an exception IME - the usual pattern is to make enough money to go back to Thailand and buy property : money changes everything from that point on. Its easy to be negative like many of the commenters below - definitely no shortage of Farang in Thailand (or their counterparts in the PI) with similar opinions - but I'm willing to bet that the majority of Filipinas will stick it out in this inhospitable location for as long as they're treated well. Some of the generalisations I've made wont sit well with those who've successfully 'transplanted' a Thai woman but my opinion is based on a couple of years in Thailand and my current abode in northern Australia. Literally hundreds of mixed-race marriages here - no-one gives them a second glance - and the vast majority of women are from the Phillipines. None of the women I'm seeing here look like gold diggers who've just stepped out of a bar in Angeles City, but I doubt that perception will change anytime soon among those of us fortunate enough to live in a country where the majority don't grow up in a slum. Its interesting that these (seemingly relatively affluent) men don't seem interested in women much closer to home - Ukraine, Poland and other former Iron Curtain countries - I suspect that expectations are much higher in the former Soviet Bloc countries than they were 10 years ago. The fantasy of meeting a millionaire and spending the rest of your life trawling boutique malls didn't start and end with Instagram ;)
So expectations among Polish women extend beyond living in the Faroe Islands with men who appear - at least from this doco - incredibly serious/sombre ? Fair enough.

Most of them married to 3 times older man than their own age. Ridiculous. The first person I spoke with was a Philipines lady when I first visited Denmark. And she was with her grandpa like husband. I was shocked

It is so indeed!
I think what she meant with sacrifice, was she left her country and relatives and friends in the PH to be with her husband.
This situation is neither good nor bad, its simply human. Both parties want something, some people give more and some take more. My experience is that when two giving people meet they can have a very rewarding relationship. Takers can never be satisfied and will be unlikely to have a happy and durable bond.
Amshaz Mohammed Bingo. This is also why I've sworn off western women.

I loved her temper - when she was angry she stamped the floor, never blamed us kids :-)
I magine that coming from Asia like here must have been more than difficult. But my mother was very satisfied, although missed her family in the Faroe Islands. The first time for you from Asia to Faroe Islands must have been enormeously difficult - EVERYTHING new. The Faroese are the most caring you can imagine!
She is far wiser than the people here that criticize this story.
you get it
Keep telling yourself that

Beautiful video! I admire our fellow Filipinos who live there for their courage and sacrifice. 😍🇵🇭
It's a beautiful island. It's slow pace, peaceful, very zen. The scenery is picturesque.
imagine yourself, you live in a environment, that is unsafe in your life and you live in poverty, and you don't see any bright in your future. but then comes an individual who will offer you compassion, support, sympathy, respect and empathy. whether it is love or economic stability and so on. one thing is for certain, that all these women are very thankful, happy and they see a bright future ahead of them... If you were in there shoes, you would do the same thing
Also the environment is Northern European, we know what that means: safe, clean and not crawling with people. Dishonesty about love does not mean we are deluded; the woman is simply not in love with the dump known as SE Asia.
@@leomarkaable1 Southeast Asia is not a dump.Have you been there? Please do not say anything on a place you have not even been.

My guess as to why some white guys "import" wives:
As a white guy living where I live, I definitely feel more desired by asian and black women than by white ones. Maybe it's because white women are typically raised to believe that they're the center of the world, and they have such high criteria when it comes to men that a lot of us regular guys just happen to fall short. A man shouldn't have to live his life alone and never have a family just because the women of his race have lost their damn minds.
It's not a secret, it's just cold as shit and only insane people would live there year around.

I think arranged marriages actually succeed more than those for "love".

They are. Polish is second ethnicity in Iceland and Svalbard.
So expectations among Polish women extend beyond living in the Faroe Islands with men who appear - at least from this doco - incredibly serious/sombre ? Fair enough.
