Throughout our journey, we explored 10 of the 18 Faroese Islands, from Viðoy in the north to Suðuroy in the far south. In total, we drove more than 1000 km during the 16 days of our visit. Watch as we come upon breathtaking cliffsides, spot thousands of sea birds and enjoy the calm and quiet of this North Atlantic archipelago.
Thank you:
A big THANK YOU goes to Marta Káradóttir who helped us tremendously with correctly pronouncing all Faroese names.

Real Talk:
Despite our attempt at keeping our documentaries as authentic as possible, you are still watching a highlight reel. When editing, we naturally tend to choose the most exciting video clips. What you don’t see are the moments spent driving through less spectacular landscapes or some of the challenges we faced. Please always keep that in mind when watching!
Grindadráp
An extremely controversial topic that is closely tied to the Faroe Islands is the traditional Grindadráp. In a nutshell, it is a mass killing of pilot whales, a species of dolphins. Every year, around 700 dolphins are killed in these hunts. As everything happens out in the open, with the shore waters literally turning red, these killings get a lot of international (media) attention.
Frankly, it is extremely tough to separate ‚right‘ from ‚wrong‘ here. In the past, this subsistence hunting technique was vital for the survival of the local inhabitants with the meat being equally distributed among all islanders. As such, the Grindadráp always had an important social aspect, as the local community worked jointly together. There is no doubt that the centuries of hardship, living on a remote, wind-tossed island group, have ingrained the advantages of this hunting technique into the collective mind of the Faroese.
From an outside perspective, killing pilot whales in such numbers seems utterly pointless and cruel, especially as, today, there are sufficient alternative food sources. At the same time, one could ask if there is a moral difference between killing pilot whales, a species of least concern, compared to seals, sharks, moose or deer? Or compared to cows, pigs or chickens held in factory farming, which are killed in the millions, away from the public eye.
No person regularly eating meat is in any position to morally judge the actions of the Faroese.
However, one thing that personally bothers us, is that these killings are defended by calling it a ‚tradition‘. In our opinion, traditions are nothing intrinsically positive. Slavery was once a tradition. Burning widows on a pyre was once a tradition. And female genital mutilation is still a horrible tradition today. Therefore, continuing these mass killings simply because they are a ‚tradition‘ is not a good enough reason. Some traditions are not worth keeping.

Doesn't this island chain have a river that flows over the ocean?
We waited 5 months, for your documentary program. Such a lovely and mysterious place. So beautiful that you can think of fairy tales and happy endings.
Thank you Lucas, for an amazing video.
The wait was worth it.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Two more videos coming before the end of the year ❤
A spectacular documentary film. I had always wanted to visit the Faroe Islands in my younger days as my father had done many times as a trawler man but my circumstances never made that wish possible. Now in my mid 70s with health issues that journey is no longer possible. Thankyou for sharing your adventure. Such beautiful scenery and glorious weather. Your photography, drone shots and commentary simply outstanding.
Thank you so much! Very happy to hear you enjoyed our documentary :)
Magnificent! Your photography and story telling is very, very good. Thanks.
These islands seem like paradise to me. So quiet, so peaceful, with interesting, unique culture and breathtaking landscapes. As a person who loves rainy, stormy, foggy weather even that is a plus. One of my dreams is doing a roadtrip from Suðoroy all the way up north to Viðareiði using the undersea-tunnels (when finished).
Your filming and documentary is just the best on U Tube , these videos are just out of this world , fantastic
Watching from the other end of the earth in Australia, in the tropics , this is the most captivating video I’ve ever watched ❗️ a million thank yous for taking me on a truly magical adventure ❣️ the photography is breathtaking … obviously a lot of hard work went into this …. Bravo 👏
Thank you very much and all the best to Down Under! Cannot wait to visit Australia again :)
Simply out of this world! The Faroe Islands are breathtaking. 😮 would love to have a colorful home with sheep in the yard & miles of trails & roads to wander. Great trip with the magnificent photography & your mesmerizing narrative. You two are the best to explore with. 😊😊. 🙋🏼♀️👍🏻🇺🇸⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much! Very glad you enjoyed it ❤
What a wonderful world it is, to contain such places.
Wow, I have seen my fair share of Faroe Island travel videos over the years, but yours is by far my favourite. Such beautiful footage and nice balance between photography, more personal travel info and drone imagery
Thank you so much! ❤
Another breathtaking production, I can`t wait for the next one! The overall quality is amazing, I love every part of it and Faroe delivered some of the most dramatic natural landscapes out there. Thank you Lucas, your work is inspiring! 😍👏🎬

A fascinating adventure through the breathtaking beauty of the Faroe Islands! Your journey, spanning from Viðoy in the north to Suðuroy in the south, is an impressive exploration of this unique island group. The majestic cliffs, the numerous seabirds, and the serene atmosphere of the North Atlantic lend a magical quality to this video. Thank you for sharing this unforgettable travel experience!

Always fingers crossed when traveling north. We've just came back from Senja and surrounding areas, it was crazy a few nights. Magical 😍
Lucky you! All we had was rain on Senja when we visited haha
AMAZING
So relaxing video documentary nice one... ❤👌👍
Another awesome video
Wonderful film, amazing views - thanks for sharing. My only small wish would have been to see footage of the towns and villages - streets, signage in the unique language and townscapes, especially as there is such little footage of the Islands. But thanks for sharing - really wanted to visit the Islands since the mid 1990s ... time I made it happen!
Amazing production quality!
amazing views...
Amazingly beautiful !
Thank you very much!

Fantastic, now... another one before the year ends😊
Already working on the next one 😁
Instant like, I know this will be a work of art
Haha, thanks a lot Simon! ❤
Beutyful island ❤
I love your vidoes
Thank you for an enthralling journey. You certainly made us want to visit the Faroe Islands, or even immigrate there. Your lesson about embracing the peace and quiet really appeals to us. As well as the cleanliness, and the awe-inspiring natural environment. From a technical perspective, I was definitely impressed by the capabilities of your DJI Mavic drones.
As a cycling bikepacker, I'm interested in learning how feasible it might be to travel those roads on a bike. Do you think the steepness of the roads would preclude exploring by bike?
Thank you! ❤ I think the Faroe Islands can easily be explored by bike. The roads are generally in a good condition although sometimes a bit narrow. The only thing that could be a challenge is the weather with strong winds and heavy rains :)
Ich hab Gänsehaut! Unglaublich tolle Doku! Vielen Dank aus Kanada. Wenn Ihr mal an meine Ostküste kommt, meldet Euch doch einfach. Meine Familie kennt viele tolle Ecken hier in Nova Scotia!
Vielen lieben Dank!
I love the Færøerne. I've been there 30 years ago. Backpacking. People were so nice, landscape unbelievable and the islands could only reached by ferry or helicopter.
I'm dreaming of taking a trip again, but it's so expensive. Most of the hostels are closed.
Which camera do you use for such beautiful pictures?
Thanks for showing me what I'm missing
❤thank you❤
Absolutely stunning. At first, I had a little bit feeling for your lengthy video. But, I noted that I was wrong after watching the first section. You have put in a lot of stunning footage and I have saved this video for my coming reference for my Faroe Island trip. BTW, can you advise what drone you use for this trip? It should be very windy in some seasons with high wind velocity and need a tough drone to handle it.
I'd definitely bring a larger drone. Personally, I used the Mavic 3 which is very sturdy. But even that one had to fight the wind from time to time.
Lucas T John bro I from Pakistan 🇵🇰 and I watch all your videos,
All your videos are excellent. And very cool drone shots
I think you should also visit Central Asia
I am praying for you and Enna
बहुत ही सुंदर और खूबसूरत island 🏝 हे !!!!
आपके लिए तो एक लाइक बनते है Bro ???👍 👍 👍
I watch travel documentaries on TH-cam quite often, and yours are always the best. Keep it up 😊
Where is your favourite place that you've visited so far?
That is a very tough question! We absolutely love the Rocky Mountains in Canada, they are mind-blowing. But we are also totally enchanted by Iceland :)
@@LucasTJahn
Nice! I'm from Canada. Where are you from?
Also, I have another question for you. What job do you do that allows you to travel for months at a time? I need to get that job lol
Germany :)
Originally, we were both in communications with remote full-time or part-time jobs but from this year, we are doing TH-cam full-time :)
@@LucasTJahn
That's great to hear. You have the best travel documentaries on TH-cam so I'm looking forward to more of your content in the future 😊
Thank you very much! 😊
Really enjoyed your video.. Wish you could come here to Indonesia someday..
Definitely on our list! :)
Thanks so much for your video Lucas. it's so nicely captured and the drone videos are of the mountains and clouds are so cinematic. 🤩
can you share what drone model you used? I'm planning a trip to Faroe Islands in July and I want to get a drone but not sure if the entry level DJI could stand the strong wind. also wonder how many battery packs would be needed with so much sceneries to capture. Thanks so much for your video.
Thank you very much! Very happy to hear you enjoyed it :) I used the DJI Mavic 3, and I am very happy with it. Of course, it is a rather expensive model. I would not go for the DJI Mini but at least for the Mavic Air 3 because it is heavier and that is better in strong winds. When it comes to batteries, I always go for the fly more package so I can use several batteries throughout the day :)
@@LucasTJahn thanks for your advice
Wow very nice to see tk you 💕💕💕🇹🇹🇹🇹😍😍😍😍😍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
