I set #1 at TDC, adjust intake/exhaust on #1, Rotate crank 90 degrees until #8 is on TDC, adjust intake/exhaust on #8, and so on through the entire firing order. Two revelutions of the crank and it's done.
The last part is gold ...set cyl 1 after that on the next adjacent cylinder watch the valves when the intake starts to open zero lash the exhaust then the exhaust opens set the intake zero lash....kiss method
I liked it the triple hop heads the three hump heads is that the angle plug heads the old 375 cuz I'd really love to find a set of those and build them
It doesn't matter. Once each cylinder is set at zero lash, it's 3/4 turn no matter where the cylinder is in the firing order. You can do the 3/4 as you zero each cylinder, or set all of them at zero, then just go to each valve and give 3/4 turn in one go round.
Hi there, I looked on the car manual and it says use the spin method, is that effect the install , my car has a new head gasket, oil pump and rocker arm.
This low compression from the valves being tight: could it cause a no start at all? Has spark and starter fluid but no start, not even a sputter. This is after I just did my heads
Yes that could definitely cause low compression but I would suggest looking at the ignition timing first and make sure the distributor is in correctly after all of that work. Even if the valves were tight it would try to fire. It sounds like timing is off to me. Good Luck!
I get to zero lash on the base circle but not so tight that i don't have a little side to side movement. Then i go 1/4 turn tighter while on the base circle. No adjusting while the car is idling or any of that nonsense. The only other thing is that i will drop my new hydraulic lifters in a coffee can about half full of a lighter grade of engine oil for about an hour. A very high probability that subsequent operation in the coming weeks and months will be trouble free. Not to mention a successful break in of a new or reground flat tappet hydraulic cam and lifters using appropriate break in oil. Beyond that correct oil with a zinc additive, changed frequently in a correctly tuned engine should meet or surpass your expectations.
Great points! Thank you for your input, I do the same with the lifters but I usually soak them in transmission oil and coat them with assembly lube before installation.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.
You really think my redneck racing friends along with my own lowriding bean eating , hydraulics hitting nationality , with not to far behind our black bruthas with the LS9 FIREbreathing donk with the big rims and pit bulls inside . Will let this happen? Not to mention all the MONEY BAG CAR OWNERS LIKE THE jay leno'S ,boyd coddingtons ,Ken digits and Foose's will no longer be loosing their 10mm socket that gets they nuts off every day 😳
Thanks for the video on valve adjustment on a Chevy 350. I got my truck to run. Thanks again!!

You mean number 6 not 8
@@max.r1484 18436572. 6 is the companion cylinder to 1 and should adjusted after the crank has moved 360 degrees
@@max.r1484no, he means 8, you go by firing order.
Your making zero sense when you say intake/exhaust
The last part is gold ...set cyl 1 after that on the next adjacent cylinder watch the valves when the intake starts to open zero lash the exhaust then the exhaust opens set the intake zero lash....kiss method
This video is ass what do you mean
I liked it the triple hop heads the three hump heads is that the angle plug heads the old 375 cuz I'd really love to find a set of those and build them
How do you do this with the intake on????
What size socket are you using I cant get one on the nutty narrow of a opening
hello 3/4 turn with the tappets loaded or tappets unloaded?
It doesn't matter. Once each cylinder is set at zero lash, it's 3/4 turn no matter where the cylinder is in the firing order. You can do the 3/4 as you zero each cylinder, or set all of them at zero, then just go to each valve and give 3/4 turn in one go round.

Helped me out thanks! working in old van
Adams favorite make! Great video

I have always done 1/2 turn. I have found 1/4 was too little and 3/4 to much.
im have a jeep werangler cj but i have a proplem with camshaft the camshaft is The camshaft of the suction cam is melting
What if I didn't take off my cam shaft and just did a head job?
So I’ve only worked on mopar so these do have hydraulic flat tappet lifters and adjustable valves in stock no a mopar you have no valve adjustment
4:37 “You rotate the engine over again” is that a complete rotation or half rotation clockwise? TIA
I would suggest a full rotation so two full turns on the crankshaft just to double check that you have adjusted correctly
They still have to be rechecked on a rubuilt right? After 200 mile break in? That's what I was told from atk rebuilders
I never rechecked at 200 miles
Is this done before or after the lifters have been " pumped up" with oil pressure??
Before they are pumped up. As long as the lifters have been soaking in oil for an hour or so they will have the proper amount of oil in them.
3/4 Is better no ticking ever at all
👍

Then get a diesel😊
Diesels will always be on the roads. Batteries will NEVER pull a heavy load over a long haul😊
Fight back its a human right to free travel or move

People say 3/4 just say 12 to 9 o clock
