@Kaniya Tarry ehhh close. The star runs out of fuel. It collapses on itself then the outer cap of the star (the surface) shoots out into space and the inside (if I can remember cuz I can't actually remember what happens after) but I think the inner core of the star gets dense and either turns into a neutron star or a black hole (if the star's mass is big enough) after the supernova
even longer we die because an star exploded either resulter in the earth being first burnt to a crisp and than freezing because the sun is gone or the atmosphere being stirpped off
Nope, if a star close to Earth would ever get close to going supernova the human race would know, and it would cause widespread panic, crime, death, economic collapse before the supernova even actually happens. There would be a rush to acquire food, shelter(not like much shelter will help you during a supernova) and because of that there will be a global shortage of just about everything.
When I was in college we were taught that a super nova happens on avg once every 100 years in a galaxy. So the more galaxies we look at the better the chances are of seeing one. I also remember questioning how they judge distances. Light years isn't the problem. The problem is the triangle that we use to calculate. I was told that it was a certainty that they were right. Well earlier this year they admitted that they have to find another way of measuring the distances again. So the largest stars they had found, well they are a lot closer now than before. Which also means that they aren't as big as previously thought. The star Betelgeuse was thought to be in between 600 to 700 light years away and as big as from our sun out to in the middle of where Jupiter and Saturn are. Now they dont know how large or how far away it is. Now me being out of school now for almost 30yrs, I understand that things will change and where some was thought to be fact will become obsolete. Anyway happy New Year everyone and I wish you all the best. ✌
3:19 - to be precise, 2 light years (or slightly more) is an upper estimate of the Oort Cloud's radius. It's ~4000 times greater distance than Sun - Neptune :D In contrast, the "place" which also plays a role of the edge of the Solar System - heliopause - lies 1000 times closer
